Durante la turbulente década 1837-1847, el conglomerado militar mexicano se enfrentò combatiendo a Texas, Francia y Estados Unidos. Atravesando etapas de esplendor, heroicidad y derrotas también, mostró destacadas pruebas de alto valor, aguante, lealtad y sacrificio de su tropa. Las páginas que siguen, tratan de presentar un relieve más vivo de estas figuras estoicas y ricas en colorido que tan intenso interés inspiran entre historiadores e investigadores militares. Esta monografia condensa la documentación en su orden cronológico. La terminologia de leyes y ordenanzas militares, los dibujos de uniformes, armas y equipo se atienen, hasta donde es posible, a los textos, objetos, reliquias, cuadros y estampas originales. Sin pretender que ésta sea la última palabra sobre la materia el texto y las láminas tienden a reconstruir sistemàticamente una imagen plástica de los cuerpos militares mexicanos.
During the turbulent decade 1837-1847 the Mexican military establishment stood in the field against Texas, France and the United States. Passing through stages of splendor, heroics and debacles it rendered ample testimony to the high courage, endurance, loyalty and sacrifice of its rank-and-file. The pages that follow try to show in clearer relief these stoic and colorful figures so intensely interesting to military historians and researchers. This monograph condenses it documentary information in chronological order. Wording of military laws and ordinances, illustration of uniform, arms, and equpment follow the original texts, objects, relics, paintings and prints as closely as possible. Without claiming to be the final word on this subject, the text and plates attempt a systematic reconstruction of a visual image of the Mexican military units.

A updated version of the classic original by Military historian Joseph Hefter. The book is good it shows all the original uniform plates plus new colorized ones. Although some of the info in the book is a bit dated about the Mexican army of that time period.
