Problematic bully romance.
I know a lot of people don't like bully romances anyway, which is totally understandable. I think what I like about them, similar to enemies/dislike/rivals-to-lovers, is the slowly changing emotions as they come to understand each other, the realisation that there's more to the person than that toxic aspect, the grovelling and redemption.
This had none of those things.
It justifies the bullying with that age-old (and very toxic) idea that "he's only being mean because he likes you". This frames abuse as something acceptable, as flirtation, as affection.
I think the other reason given for Aiden's bullying, which is that he thinks he's playing funny pranks on Charlie, is "justified" by his having ADHD - um, how about no, that seems like a harmful insinuation.
While the bullying doesn't quite go as far as abuse, and Aiden does apologise to Charlie and admit that he always went to cry after he pulled a "prank" on Charlie that went too far (so...why didn't he stop doing it?!), it's all just brushed off like nothing ever happened.
And then they hook up (FTB).
Charlie shouldn't have ditched that nice boy he went on a date with, he seemed like a much better prospect.
The whole story was absurd.

Cute short story. Are bullies really bullies? Or are they desperately trying to say something else? Aiden has teased Charlie since they were little, but there is pain behind his actions. This author writes sweet stories.
