In the summer of 1998, Dave Moerlein embarked on a solo cycling journey, pedaling more than 1800 miles over the course of 28 days. Pulling a trailer filled with a tent, sleeping bag, camping stove and enough food for a couple days, he left his hometown of Cincinnati OH, en route to Jackson, WY. Along the way, he encountered many supportive people, including a farmer who drove him many miles to the nearest bike shop, after one of Dave's spokes broke and he could no longer ride. A leader in a local chamber of commerce gave him a free night in the hotel he owned, after watching Dave try to set up his tent during an approaching storm. And a bike mechanic in Wyoming took Dave in for a night, fixed his bike and shared cycling stories. Written many years ago, when Dave was in his late teens and early 20s, he is now sharing this simple story to hopefully inspire others to follow their dreams.
