Another good option for the “devotional reader” on your Christmas list. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality/value of this book. The “Food for the Journey” is the concept that the Eucharist sustains us on our journey. I heard Waldron on a podcast promoting his book and the hook that caught me was how little time we spend in my fellowship (church of Christ) on “the Lord’s Supper” (Communion; Eucharist). It is central to my fellowship’s practice and we do it each Sunday, but rarely do we spend much time on it, particularly since the days of passing trays ended with Covid. Waldron wrote these devotionals to be read in your seat as you participate in the Lord’s Supper on a Sunday. Well, I tried. I’m a fast reader. It takes 2-3 minutes to read each devotional. I discovered we spend about a minute, maybe a minute and a half on the Lord’s Supper at our church. Then we are on to announcements…. Ok, so after a week or two I stopped trying to read it in church (not enough time to do so) and instead treated it like 52 devotional readings focused on the Lord’s Supper. And as such, it is outstanding. Highly recommend it either for a year-long weekly focus on the Lord’s Supper, or as a 52 day devotional series on the Lord’s Supper.

Food for the Journey: 52 Meditations on the Lord’s Supper to Enrich Your Soul is a beautifully reflective book that will enrich the life of the Christian--whether he or she is a new or seasoned follower.

Dr. Waldron uncovers the richness and depth of communion often lost in ritual and provides an opportunity for increased personal intimacy with Christ.

I received a review copy of this book in exchange for my honest review, but enjoyed it so much that I plan to purchase at least one copy for my personal library.
