Rate this book
After causing major trouble in a lower-level security prison, the young, notorious JASON VOORHEEZE is sent to Pelican Bay, one of the most violent and infamous prisons in the United States. Here, Voorheeze will encounter true killers who have nothing to live for and they will murder over the slightest sign of disrespect. Will Voorheeze survive on Pelican Bay's deadly A-Yard? Or will his name be added to the long list of convicts who lost their lives in this concrete Hell? No matter the outcome, win or lose, Voorheeze is intent on making the other cons respect his gangsta. And he's willing to shed blood to do so. Meanwhile, T'RIDA is counting on Voorheeze to survive so that when he is released from prison, they can build the organization they envisioned. But when the unexpected happens, the TEARS OF A GANGSTA will flow hard and long, and a young man's soul will turn cold.

About the author

De'Kari

20 books116 followers
De'Kari is a promising author whose work is nothing short of amazing. De’Kari’s work provides readers with an authentic glimpse into street life. He currently writes urban fiction but plans to cross over to other genres.

The author was born and raised in Northern California. The author experienced a challenging childhood. Riddled with abuse, neglect and witnessing violence first-hand. His early years were dark and pained due to the dysfunction that surrounded him. He was often uprooted and moved from place to place. After various placements with relatives, he found himself in foster care. He eventually turned to the streets which consequently led to a lot of bad choices. In turn those bad choices led to youth authority, jail & prison.

There is more to this author than the street-life. He always had a love for writing. In school he excelled in creative writing. He would always live-out the story as he was writing. Through his most difficult times, he used writing as a way to escape from his surroundings.

In additional to writing, he creates poetry, writes songs and does artwork. He loves spending time with family, fishing, sports and helping youth.

He is happy that he is finally able to share his writing with others, putting his passion to work!

It so hard to say goodbye to these books and characters

If you haven’t read this author books, then you’re missing out on some incredible stories. This author is absolutely amazing with his work. I only read 2 of this author series (Gorillaz in the Bay and this one, Tears of a Gangsta) but they both were so good to me. Voorheeze is in both series, the main character. Tears of a Gangsta tells Voorheeze story from youth to adulthood and its tell how everything started. I read Gorillaz in the Bay 1st but I still can’t say which to read 1st bc I were still able to make the connection after reading Tears of a Gangsta. These books are stay up all night books. And the reality is real. These books had my emotions all over the place. I laughed, I cried, I cussed, I fussed, I cried some more. I still think about T’Rida and my heart hurts again. But the only puzzling part of the 2 series was Voorheeze’s kids that appeared in Gorillaz, I’m confused about them. Thank you author for some awesome books.

Yeah This Was Good!

A in the first look at Jason ,you get a raw look at a young man who only wants to live and have his family as well. We get a look at him being educated from some wise OG's. This story picks up with the same bang and continues to ride on cruise control. I love the insight we get from this young man, I just wish we could have seen him interact with the secret group on the outside. This was good writing and a very good experience. So look forward to another look at Jason.

This book I’m wasn’t my favorite but was very interesting in what Voorheeze experience with all the importance jewel of knowledge that was passed on from OG’s that would never come home from behind the prison wall! In my opinion Voorheeze wasn’t my favorite character it was TRida and I think because of knowing he was dead from Gorilla In The Bay Neva Die the little part in this book although it was a good read just didn’t excite me like all of Author De’Kari’s books I have read! Tears of a Gangsta 2 was a great book. This book was about one of the main characters in Gorillaz In The Bay, Voorheeze. This is about his life before Gorillaz In The Bay.

Author De'Kari two-thumbs up, you did another great job!

Just as good as the first book

I like the way he made it out & got down to business making his money only to get robbed. I don't like the way they just want in guns blazing without finding where the money was at only to find out he was so close to it

A good read

This author has done it again with a darn good book. I would recommend reading this series first to get of feel of how Gorillaz in the Bay came into play. De'Kari is an awesome writer and he has put a little bit of himself in each of these series

Loved it.

Poor Voorhees went through it trying to come up after his release, but I guess those were growing pains, thinking of how he turned out. I want more, I remember him being on that crack after he made it big but can't remember how that happened. Waiting on the next installment.
