‘What adventure shall I have today?’

Author Ayana Bando is joined by her two daughters, Kiya and Jordan, is presenting this children’s book illustrated by Simone Anais-Clarke. LALA AND HENRY WINGO appears to be a debut publication for the trio!

In some ‘other place’ (Planet Unicornius!) Lala the unicorn yearns to have a new adventure, and on noting a book called Terra: The Blue Gem of the Universe, she decides to explore the Terra world, aka Earth. Using her magic skills she imagines her destination – the beautiful Arctic Ocean – and in her magic transporting bubble she lands with a splash and encounters a strange sad animal – Henry Wingo, a narwhale. At first offended by Lala’s inquisitive nature, Henry softens as he realizes Lala friendliness and warmth, and discovering a new friend, Henry takes Lala to his home in Canada. Lala is impressed with the beauty of the place – except for something black. Henry explains the black material is an oil spill that is ominous to animals. The oil spills come from ships and since Lala reads a lot, she knows about ships and Henry assures her that some people are concerned about the oil and work to clean it and stop the oil from injuring animals. With that shared conversation a solid friendship is born and Lala offers to have Henry join her in her magic bubble to travel to different habitats!

The delightful little story, beautifully illustrated, ends with activities for children and educational facts about the environment that make this book a fine entertaining and educational experience. This is a creative beginning for a talented crew. Recommended.
