Rhea Reilly is certain her twin sister’s sudden disappearance six months ago wasn’t a suicide, no matter what Colorado authorities think. She can’t afford to trust police detective Jackson Whitaker—even if he’s risking his career to uncover the truth. But a lethal trail of lies is drawing them together…and into an inescapable trap.

This is a Romantic Suspense, and this is the second book in the Unsolved Mystery series. This book pull me in for the beginning. This is a fast moving suspense romance that was so engrossing. I love the characters in this book, and there was so much action that kept you guessing and wanting to read. I love the romance between the two main characters, and they were so cute. I really enjoyed the ending of this book. The big twist I did not see coming before the hits started to be reveal. This is a short quick read, but it was so good. I was kindly provided an e-copy of this book by the publisher (Harlequin Intrigue) or author (Caridad Pineiro) via NetGalley, so I can give honest review about how I feel about this book. I want to send a big Thank you to them for that.
I remember liking some of Ms. Pineiro's vampire romances, so I picked this up on a whim. The story focuses on Rhea Reilly's quest to find out what really happened to her twin. She doesn't agree with local law enforcement's conclusion of suicide. Detective Jackson Whitaker is tasked with going over the evidence Rhea has collected, and he agrees that there may be something to her theory.
From here, I quickly found myself in "Time to throw in the towel" territory. Jackson agrees to let Rhea be a partner in his investigation and for her safety, he insists on having her stay at his home. This is so far from accepted practices that I just couldn't set it aside and dive into the story. I quit after about 75 pages.
CW: domestic violence; the author also has a CW for sexual assault on the opening page of the book but I didn't read far enough to get to that content.
Rhea Reilly knows in her heart that her sister just didn't disappear. As her twin sister would just know if she was dead. Trying to get the police to look into her sisters case even more she manages to get Jackson Whitaker to help her out. Jackson is going to get a promotion soon and was told to look into Rhea's case quickly and find a way to brush it off because they don't feel theres much to look at when a couple suspicious things turn up and now they are looking into it.
I love mystery suspense novels and this was perfect for me. Rhea never lost hope that her sister was not dead but then there was the wonder of what really was going on. She did everything she could and refused to let go and it was interesting how everything turned out with the case. Jackson after taking up Rheas case was risking his future of possibly getting promoted when his higher up steps down and it was gamble but he was going to do what he could to help Rhea. I enjoyed seeing that romance between the two and naturally there is going to be that question of where do thing go after they are not with eachother 24/7 with the common goal of finding the sister. Overall pretty good book I really enjoyed it.
Twins have a connection and Rhea still feels connected to her twin even though she supposedly committed suicide. The one thing that Rhea still holds on to is that her sister's body was never recovered.
This book takes you on a journey of a sister who is holding on to her hope that her sister is still here. You go through all kinds of emotions and with the help of a certain detective on the Regina Police force she may get more than she hoped for.
Talk about a great new author. She knows how to start a story. Twins especially identical twins have a special bond. In this story Carid really brings it to light. Rhea Reilly can't let it go because of that connection. It makes for a fascinating book. It shows you that there can be a case that hasn't been quite finished. It takes a special cop to realize that. Enter Jackson Whitaker. This book deals with a tough subject towards the end so if you are sensitive about rape or abduction its best to not read it if you are in recovery. It is full of mystery, romance and looking at how to solve the case. Its well written and worth a read. Sadly in today's society not all men know the value of there mates. It's worth a read otherwise. Looking forward to reading the next book. J
3 1\2 stars Cold Case Reopened felt like the tradition Harlequin novel and doesn't stand out in the crowd of so many other purple covered Harlequin Intrigue novels on the market. The story is fine and the author gives readers a cast of characters for readers to know their history before they start the quick read.
The author tried her best to pull readers into her romance mystery and missed the target with focusing on the romance
Thank you to Netgalley for the advance copy of Caridad Piñeiro Cold Case Reopened
The thing with twins alot of times they know things about the other. I mean just know things. In this case she knows her sister did not commit suicide. Rhea takes to Colorado and takes to finding the answers herself. Jackson takes and helps to find those answers too which in turn will have them having to trust each other. Intrigue has you scratching your head on this one with the truth having to be found. Fast paced though and turning those pages before you know it with everything in this one you are smacked with the ending.
This is one cold case that probably should not be reopened, except it is Selene and now we have Jax instead of Chief Robinson. But, what’s one missing woman??? At least you can count on friends and family, can’t you??? I enjoyed the story and recommend the book.
Twins feel things and identical twins REALLY feel things. Rhea believes her identical twin Selene is still alive. But no one will believe her, will They??? Jackson believes!!! I enjoyed this story and recommend the book.
I received this last year from the author at Space Coast Booklovers convention. I really liked how the suspense was kept up along with the romantic tension.
