There’s magic in the melanin… and ain't nothing flyer than a black girl claiming her magic.
Do you know the power of the three? Qadira, Phoenix, and Whilemenia, the Tri-Deity, are heirs to the Throne of All. Three SiStars ruling was bound to be frowned on. And the heat was too much for the girls to bear.
Qadira, the Stripping Succubus Seductress, was focused on her cake, causing chaos for centuries, but may have found the man to tame her wild, irresponsible ways in Napoleon King. Napoleon, a bounty hunter sent on a mission to eliminate the threat that was the Goddess’s divine three, finds himself hypnotized by the caramel-colored Queen, and considers throwing it all away to take a chance at love. After centuries, could Qadira finally have found the one who gets her? Or will Napoleon prove to be the one to put an end to her forever, teaching her that love doesn’t just hurt… it can kill?
Phoenix, the Strong SiStar Sorceress, gave it all up for a “normal life,” becoming a detective in Lafayette, Louisiana. She had been able to keep her identity a secret for the longest time, until a tall, dark, and handsome blue-eyed Mystic Marlo "Charm" Prince sent her world reeling out of control. Charm had no interest in anything but money, magic, and keeping a low-profile. A fugitive on the run, he knew that one wrong move could cause his demise. But when he meets Phoenix, he can’t shake the need to know her, to have her, by any means.
Whilemenia was the good girl and the baby who never left the nest. While her SiStars were out wreaking havoc, she was trying to keep the Kingdom that her mother built from crumbling. But an arranged marriage was enough to make her want to branch off on her own, pushing her right into the hands of a grilled-out Celestial thug. Meeting Amir Mare, the kind she was warned to stay away from, she may have just found the man that was not only meant for her, but who can make her embrace the power that she has deep within.
All's fair in love and war, but can these SiStars put their differences aside to protect what is rightfully theirs, or will their issues lead to the end of black girl magic, forever?
This book was AMAZING!! I stayed all night reading because I couldn't put it down. I was glad that Whil came into her own and stood up for herself, but I was upset about the Amir outcome. I would love to read more about Charm and the guys to get insight on their lives before and after meeting the ladies. Great job I would definitely recommend this book
I was interested in seeing an urban take on paranormal romance and this book surely delivered. The storyline was complex in a good way but some of the settings were hard to follow as many place and people names were thrown out without much description or background. I honestly felt like this would have been better as multiple books, one following each SiStar instead of just one. I appreciated the attempt to incorporate different languages in the book but felt the execution was lacking and led to an urge to skip sections that included key information for the plot. Overall what could have been a really fun read was bogged down by over writing
Being a fan of this author and her work. I have to say this is my favorite. I love the language and overall flow of the story. I cant wait for more. Simply amazing storyline and memorable characters.
Loved, loved it! I wasn’t expecting a lot of what happened, and had a few moments where I was confused, but I truly enjoyed reading the goddesses and all other creatures! ❤️
This should have been a movie. It was not what I expected but, in a good way. I highly recommend this book. It's a Sci-fi meets urban romance that won't want to put down. Good job!
I love this read it touched on a lot in a paranormal/fantasy way. I hated the end like they were so destine to be with these males but ...just ain't make sense. Unless there is more, the end was wack. Now could not give 5star because this read gave u everything but some dumb ending and bombing sex.
Weird to another level... I tried to understand what was going on with this one but most of the read I didn't know what was going on just pieces of what was happening. The other language was really distracting and at times I just wanted to jump pages to see if I could pick up on something else. The story was all over and the author didn't try to get a connection with the characters or an understanding of the basics about them.
I loved how each Goddess was different. Representing that there's more than one way to be beautiful. Incorporating all the different manner of creatures & twists, turns, secrets kept me wanting more & more. Full of mystery, murder & mayhem this story was awesome!
This book was totally different from the urban books and even urban paranormal that I read. I love how descriptive the author is with the characters. And I absolutely love the addition of different languages from the motherland. I will definitely read the prequel.
I love anything African American paranormal and have just added Joi to my list of top African American authors!! I have the next book thirsty which tells Quadira's story but I'd also love to read about the post Black Girl Magic Phoenix and Whilamina stories simply because this book has kept me so engrossed. 5 stars for sure!!!
Was glad to have experienced this book . It was definitely not the norm for me and I thoroughly enjoyed and welcomed the change. The storyline was intricate and I loved how we learned each sister and those closet to her intimately. I am glad binds were severed , bonds were made and a family was able to help each other out when it was most necessary.
Absolutely loved this storyline! It caught my attention when I saw my hometown Lafayette in there so I HAD to see what it was hitting for. Can’t wait to see what’s next ❤️ - Shailen Z.
