'The Rescue' is a compelling short read adaptation of Kittie Lambton's prizewinning entry to the Westgate Literary Festival 2019.The arrival of a sailing yacht named Madeline to the shores of Westgate-on-Sea in Kent, England, marks a turning point in the lives of a visual artist, a mechanic, a Syrian refugee and a fiddle player who plays Klezmer, Classical and Celtic Folk Music. And so begins a heartwarming and uplifting tale of discovery; where acts of kindness and community spirit are rewarded with life-changing consequences that bring hope, opportunity and good fortune to all those who have the courage to embrace strangers.
A splendid heartwarming story, extremely well written by the wonderful author Kittie Lambton. I have been fan of author Kittie Lambton, since reading The Cellists Notebook.
The Rescue, is one of the best stories I have read, and I will never forget. I had tears in my eyes while reading this amazing short story. The Rescue is about very gifted people in different ways, all come together.
Artists Iain, who paints by the sea, becomes great friends with Jim who has inherited a boat. Iain’s and his friend Tom, go out sailing with Jim his boat. They save a refugees life.
Katherine is a teacher and musician who plays the fiddle.
I Loved how The Rescue, story ends on a happy note.
This story will capture the hearts of readers from Scotland, to Leigh-on-sea, to Margate, Westgate, Canterbury and far as Syria.
Further more I highly recommend this reading this beautiful book, The Rescue.
The Rescue is a short story from Kittie Lambton which was a prize-winner at the Westgate Literary Festival in 2019. Although it’s just over 40 pages, there’s a lot packed in there. There is art, music and sailing, all of which are escapes of sorts for those who partake. The title could refer to the actual rescue of a refugee found out at sea although, in some ways, many of the characters are in need of some kind of rescue. Although this story was written a few years ago now, sadly the issues faced by refugees are still the same and the attitudes of some people towards them haven’t changed either.
Kittie Lambton’s writing is very visual and I found her description of Katherine’s house very vivid and richly detailed. I know that the author runs a self-catering house in a town not far from where I live and I couldn’t help but wonder if the house she wrote about was inspired by that.
The Rescue is a satisfying short story combining a love of music, art and the sea with romance, as well as showing that kindness to all is so important. My thanks to the author for sending me a digital copy for review.
