Great advice

As the title suggests, there are a lot of great advice provided in this book that are relevant for teens. It is well written and straight to the point. It does get repetitive in some parts but it is done purposefully with humour to hammer that advice into the reader's head. I like how the author also provides alternatives and doing things smartly, if you still want to try those 'adult' things like drinking and drugs. It's not realistic to just tell them 'Don't do it'. It offers ways to be smart about doing these things if they choose to do them. It teaches responsibility and self control. It was engaging to read and feels like the author is almost talking directly to you through this book!

I’ve read several older kid parenting books this past year. As my oldest just turned 16, I can feel those last few years with me coming fast and I’ve been panicking a little about what I haven’t taught him. Enter this book. I can’t remember if a search in Amazon or Goodreads brought me to it. It was a quick read and had a lot of great advice. I did find that on some pages I had to add a few mom notes, so that my version of the advice was clear. Mostly though, I felt it was pretty sound. It’s not perfect and there is a lot more other advice (which the author is certain to have books for) that is useful but not in here. I’m glad to have previewed it and hope that my kids will actually read it and get something from it. I opted to buy it as something to just give them to have as they’d like to read, not me forcing it on them. My favorite pieces of advice: the idea of today me and tomorrow me (I call it future me) and also being a creator over a consumer. (These are not revolutionary, especially to an adult, but I tried looking at the book as though I were a teen.)

With so many of my clients struggling with their teens, I thought reading this might help. It's a wonderfully accessible common sense approach to supporting and advising teenagers. Not at all delivered as a lecture but more advice given in a way that a teen could understand and that may support their efforts to make good decisions. With such gems, as make the most of your 44 hours, don't make your parents happy and don't believe a word your boyfriend/girlfriend says. The book is good at thinking about LGBT perspective too. My only reservation about this book is the frequent mention of the author's website.

With thanks to Net galley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Wear your deference’s with pride

I love this book, it is a perfect gift for your teenager. I like the father voice tone. I like how it speaks to the teenager directly! Sometimes it’s not what you say, it’s how you say it. The author does a very good job in saying everything that should ever be said for a teenager with CARE. This book offers comprehensive and realistic advise . Highly recommended

This is the best book of its kind that I have ever read. The advice given is very insightful, research-based, and essential information for the target audience, teens. And the writer has a wonderful style full of humor, wry takes, and a well-grounded wisdom that talks to all kinds of teens at once. Archimedes Clutterbuck, the prime example, is a real hoot as a tongue-in-cheek character who lives through doing the wrong thing regularly.

Sensible advise when your kids trying to figure out their place in the world. Excellent chapter length, neither too long nor too short, to hold interest. I particularly liked the quotes at the end of each chapter.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Funny but fact based.

An easy to read book that you can pick up and start anywhere and be entertained in a thought provoking way. As someone fully a half century past my teens, this book was a bit of a trip down memory lane, but it made the trip enjoyable.
