Ryn faces unexpected darkness when Beau invites Whit to recuperate with the recently injured folks from the kidnap attempts in Cali and Florida. Whit brings a private nursing team that finds mixed favor with Ryn
Suspicions run high when threats continue despite everyone sharing lockdown and Ryn having an unlisted new phone number.
Fatal results for more than one party get Detective Blankenship back on the scene, leaving no one happy with his involvement
Beau seems at once more withdrawn and a bit more assertive. Isiah and Angela are the only happy-ish couple around, and he is still recovering from wounds sustained in Florida.
Chad Gleeson, bully of Ryn’s young life and master manipulator in Molly’s adult life might be dead, but his memory and the echoes of his torture linger on
Hero in his own mind Steve seems to be feeling a bit more of a tarnished hero - and he is not a lot less of an insensitive dude than Chad with his close hammering on and haranguing of Ryn and Molly. If his uncle wanted answers that badly he could have picked up a phone himself
Looking forward to the next book to see how things develop with the Beau who seems more self aware even as Ryn spirals

I got an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review via Voracious Readers Only.
This book is the 4th in a series but I didn’t think it would matter. It really did though. There are quite a lot of characters, all of whom have gone through some traumatic events which are alluded to but never fully explained. I really had trouble keeping the characters straight in my head, mainly because none of them seemed to have much of a personality. And basically nothing happened in the book. I kept waiting for the plot to start. One thing happens, but not till halfway through. Then nothing happens again, until it is all wrapped up in the space of a few pages.
I really only kept reading hoping to find out what had happened to them all. It sounded interesting! But I guess I’d need to read the earlier books in the series for that. I also felt like the various references to Covid were there for no particular reason, and they were annoying. I’m aware there’s a pandemic, I’m reading to escape the real world.
I didn’t hate the book, but I certainly wouldn’t recommend it unless you had read the rest of the series.

I had not realized this was book #4 in this series. This book starts right where book #3 ended and book #3 must have been a doozy of a book. Everyone is now at Ryn's house, wounded either mentally or physically or both. But without reading the previous book I had no idea what had happened to get them all to this point. The author gave some back story but eeked it out slowly and I just felt lost the entire book. I would definitely recommend reading previous stories first before reading this one. It would make so much more sense, you would know the complicated back story between all the characters and what happened to bring them to this point. But even with being lost most of the book I did get to eventually know the characters and enjoyed the climax to the story. It was a great ending. I recommend reading the first book before starting this one. Each of the books in the series are stand-alones, but the characters are not reintroduced. I picked up the first book, (by the way, it was terrific!) and read that. Then I had no problems.
Ryn is bring several sick and wounded friends to her home. They are recovering from wounds received during a rescue mission. It was successful but the cost was high and Ryn is receiving frightening, anonymous messages that hint at a reprisal. This isn't helping her chronic insomnia. There are a lot of strangers in her house and one uninvited death. Ryn is finding it hard to relax.
And you, dear reader, won't be relaxing either. Hang on tight for an exciting ride.

I enjoyed reading this book. So much so that I did it in one sitting! The storyline galloped along nicely and I didn’t quite work out who did it. I was close though! The characters are diverse and interesting. This is book 4 in the Ryn Davis mystery series. I haven’t read any of the previous books so would have found a few more back story facts on the main characters helpful. However, this doesn’t detract at all from this book being a great read and it still works as a standalone. Great book to take on holiday and recommend it.

I hadn't read this author before, and when I picked up this book I was quickly confused as it became clear the characters had been developed prior to this installment without reintroduction. I went back and read the first book and then continued on to this one hoping it would make more sense. Everything eventually sorted itself out and it was a good mystery, albeit a little slow to get to the murder and the action. Overall, a good story once you familiarize yourself with the characters, background, and premise and actually get to the action.

Before starting this, I read the first 3 books. I was addicted once I got to this one. I wanted to know what was going to happen in Ryn’s life now! I was sad that Whit died, but am hoping that Steve and Ryn have some sort of relationship in the next book (which I’m hoping there will be!) I also loved how tasteful you included COVID 19. I’ve read other books that don’t do as tactful.

I did enjoy this book and how the characters all deal with ptsd differently, I did get confused on the background of some characters and would have liked more background on how they all met maybe a week before they were rescued? And chads involvement with Russia but it didn’t detract from the main story and the read.

I was a little lost trying to meet all these characters. As this is book 4 in the series. But worth the ride! So many injured, physically and mentally. Healing with Ryn at her "safe house." But with the death threats, texts and notes, are they safe?
It's time to go back and read first of this series. Don't want to miss anything!

Suspenseful and intriguing. Murder, secrecy and much more to keep you wondering what will happen next. Ryn shot an evil man but it still plays on her nerves. Will she ever find the truth. Well written.
