Interesting book on the effects of militarization in so-called "new nations." This book was published in 1962, so is a bit dated--but nonetheless it gives interesting insight into the political climate of the time. I was disappointed in how uncritical much of the book was to the notion of miltarism--there is only a fleeting consideration as to whether or not a nation-state should have a military. Also, though this was at the height of US and Soviet imperialism, there is very little mention of the effect of miltary aid and the "cold war." I think a good touch of world systems theory, post-colonialism, or dependency theory might be useful for consideration.
