Several sections, starting with a geographical overview of the area of Arabia.
Enjoyed the geographical overview of the area circa 1900, especially in comparison to today. This area of the world is not exempt from the upheavals and major changes of the 21st century.
This section also had some interesting remarks on how people in these regions had fared under Islamic rule. There is a chapter devoted to the Turkish rule and history of the region.
There are also some chapters devoted to the origin of Islam, the history of the area (including the "Time of Ignorance", ie before Mohammed, Islam and its prophet, and the Arabian language. Comprehensive but overall a very readable.
