The word “Genesis” means “beginnings”. It is an apt title for a book which contains the history of the beginning of time and traces some of the known activities of early mankind. The title does not give the whole picture as the book also contains prophetic glimpses of the end of time. But it is the beginnings which are foremost the purpose of the writer.This book seeks to learn from and apply the lessons of Genesis today. It does not seek to give an academic critique. There are many books available to do that. Instead, it seeks to make the book of Genesis relevant today. The book of Genesis contains many opportunities for argument, such as the account of creation, the long lives and the flood. And these arguments are dealt with wisely and gently. But the heart of this book is not found in argument. It is found in the life lessons found from the bible narrative.
