Aliens. Assassins. And the Apocalypse.

They killed his mentor. They tried to kill him. And now, they are trying to kill her.

Tortured by his past and uncertain of his future, the Assassin Core's most promising apprentice, Aero, vows revenge on the time-shifting Anarchists, but soon finds himself caught in a web of lies, deceit and espionage.

The Central District is under attack from above and within: the Alien Hosts have been silent for days, the Assassin's Core has a mole, and when Aero discovers Fletcher, the man like a father to him dead, it's all but too late and things spiral out of control.

On the run, he encounters Astrid, the undefeated decagon champion who seems to be at the center of the murders, and despite his best efforts, seems to always be one step behind.

They will have to risk it all if they hope to escape the Anarchist's clutches-and if they fail, they'll lose everything, including their lives...

Ryan escaped the corporate world in 2018 when a wild story developed in his mind, sparking his overactive imagination, and fueled a growing ambition to bring this epic tale to readers. Not satisfied with dabbling only in fantasy, Ryan has tempted fate and is writing a near-future, sci-fi thriller 'Extinction Files' set to release in late 2022. Ryan is now the owner of the Rocking R Guest Ranch, which he runs with his wife and three kids; their dog, a couple of horses, a mini donkey and pony, a small herd of nigerian dwarf goats, and their jersey milking cow. Somewhere in all the chaos, he finds time to write magical stories.

Assassin Rising is a thrilling action-packed tale of a cyber-vampire assassin on a mission seeking revenge. Aero, an apprentice of the Assassin Core discovers that he is being targeted by a mysterious sniper. And to make matters worse, the girl of his dreams, Astrid also seems to have a target on her back despite being an undefeated decagon champion. Filled with vengeance, Aero stumbles upon something much deeper and darker including betrayals, genocides and danger at every corner.
The dialogue and dynamic between Astrid and Aero were developed well and is one of the highlights of the story. In my opinion, the book could benefit from some length as it does contain a lot of science-fiction elements that could have used more explaining. In relation to that, the book has a solid plot and shows great promise for a sequel. Furthermore, the author has skillfully incorporated numerous twists amidst the action, making this book an enthralling read from start to end. The topic of Covid-19 is also included in the book in a very relevant and interesting manner. In sum, readers who enjoy books about anarchists and aliens will particularly love Assassin Rising by Ryan Carriere.

Are you cool? No, because you are not the main character of this exciting sci-fi adventure, Aero. This book was high adventure and action from the start. The thing I appreciated most, however, was how funny it was! I laughed out loud several times! I love when a book can make fun of itself and still be interesting and exciting. I just wish the characters were a little more unique. They do rely heavily on sci-fi tropes: A rogue, play-by-his-own-rules hero and a sexy, sassy female love-interest who has spent her whole life fighting, creating a barrier around her heart, but she'll never be able to resist the main hero because he is too wonderful. You know. Still, this story is a lot of fun and is a classic sci-fi adventure that I would recommend to anyone who just needs to chill with a book for a second and forget the real world.

Assassin Rising has got to be one of my favorite science fiction book. It’s a quick read, but is packed with great scenes. I’m invested in the characters, and the writing is amazing. It is the first in the series, and I can’t wait to see where the second book takes us. I will definitely be recommending this book to my friends and family.

An interesting and entertaining take on apocalypse fiction. Does the "gives you something familiar but in a new way" thing so many people want from fiction. Also, it's the perfect length.
The characters are engaging and the beats are solid, which is something I like to see. Good to take with you on a flight when you need a little action and entertainment!

Assassin Rising: 2044 The Alien Gene Project is a fast-paced sci-fi, and post-apocalyptic novella introducing readers to Aero, an up-and-rising apprentice at the Assassin’s Core. Now someone has killed Aero’s mentor and it looks like the target has shifted to Aero himself.

There are elements of this story I absolutely loved! Right from the first sentence, the story grabs hold of you and takes you on a wild ride. That first sentence is indeed what convinced me to pick up this novella to read it, and here’s the sentence:

“Missing a kill shot is never a fortunate thing.”

From there I was swept up in the storyline, creative tech, and the action. I enjoyed details like this one, “she rubs on a measured dose of cyberskin and it forms and hardens, plugging the hole in seconds.” Assassin Rising is a fast read both in how short the novella is, but also in its built-in thriller-like pacing.

On the flip side, the fast pacing and short format left little room for character development or in-depth world-building; both are done, but on a superficial level, which left me emotionally detached from both the characters and the setting. There's almost a rapid-fire introduction of elements in a short number of pages, but none are really explored in depth. To really solidify these in the story I would love to see some additional details and expansion in these areas. Also, there were numerous errors in grammar, tense, and punctuation throughout, which was jarring when reading, and the story could do with another solid round of edits to correct these.

NOTE: This review is based on the version of Assassin Rising received for review, but the Author has indicated that a newly edited version is now available.

A short book with a lot of action

This was well written and entertaining book. The story is short, but there is no shortage of action mixed with a bit of clever and sarcastic humor.
