About the author

Charles Hodge (1797–1878) was an important Presbyterian theologian and principal of Princeton Theological Seminary between 1851 and 1878. He was a leading exponent of the Princeton theology, an orthodox Calvinist theological tradition in America during the 19th century. He argued strongly for the authority of the Bible as the Word of God. Many of his ideas were adopted in the 20th century by Fundamentalists and Evangelicals.

This book published in 1995 by The Trinity Foundation incorporates two of Charles Hodges writings. It is a clear statement of the reformer's view of an objective justification. The big minus to reading this book is the many quotations in Latin in the text of the book. The English translation is given in the footnotes. This makes the reading much more difficult. It would have been much better to have the Latin quotations in the footnotes and the English translation in the text of the book!
