A very good read

I enjoyed reading the autobiography in the founder of Slimming World. She describes her philosophy and how she has used it to establish her life changing Slimming World organisation . A real role model for all girls and women to believe in themselves and work hard to achieve and succeed.

This is a hefty book which I actually found difficult to hold as the binding is so tight.

I have tried Slimming World several times over many years and whilst I have lost an odd stone or two, once you stop going the weight goes back on again. I have spoken to so many people who say the same. I have been 100% committed, bought the magazines, stayed to group and cooked from scratch using the SW recipe books which are great.

Margaret says in her book many times that SW classes are never boring. Well, I have news for you Margaret, they really ARE boring. That is the main reason why so few people stay to group and which every single Consultant I have ever met tries to encourage people to do. Going round a group of maybe 40 people and hearing their stories is absolutely boring because their stories are so similar. Good week, you lose. Bad week you gain. Then the monotonous clapping starts. Speak to anybody leaving after weigh in Margaret and they will tell you the same …. It’s BORING.

I enjoyed hearing about Margaret’s early life and adoption and then starting her own family so young and of course how she started SW but after that I lost interest. I was surprised that she didn’t mention the type of foods she ate, recipes she cooked and how her weight fluctuated because looking at the photos she has never been what I call slim despite running SW. It seemed very impersonal. I do take my hat off to her for making mega money though and rewarding her staff for their hard work.

The content of this autobiography is certainly interesting and Margaret's passion and determination is nothing short of inspiring. As an entrepreneur, it was fascinating to hear about the processes involved with the various businesses she started up and very motivating. This book is full of positivity and a feeling that we can achieve our dreams - whether that's losing weight or starting up our own business.

There were a few points where she goes off on a tangent and tells you what happened in one person's life or with a particular business over a few decades then she jumps back to where the tangent started. I found this a little jarring and it made the narrative harder to follow in places. However, I did appreciate her apparent desire to alleviate anxiety and let us know things turned out okay before telling us about some of the struggles and difficulties she had faced. I feel it really highlighted her caring and positive nature. A truly inspiring read.

It was ok. Definitely a biography about Margaret's life and family and businesses.

I had hoped that there would be more about her creating, setting up and running slimming world.

As a Slimming World member I wanted to read Margaret's journey about how she created a great community and it didn't spoil.
