Caltha Dooran is the toughest, fiercest shape-shifting mermaid in the western seas. She has three Clans to rule, and no time for romance. But when a warlock, Jonty, turns up and asks her to come with him to London to capture a water monster, she can't say no. In London, away from her duties, her attraction for Jonty grows... and they soon fall under each other's spell. But will his past and her responsibilities pull them apart, or can they find the only true magic, the one that binds two souls together?
Alice lives in London, UK, with her husband and son. By day she's a compliance manager for a pharmaceutical company. By night she writes fantasy romance about shape shifting mermen, water monsters and time-travelling witches. Her first book, “A Merman’s Choice,” was published in January 2019 by Black Velvet Seductions. It is the first book in the Sea of Love fantasy romance series, inspired by the landscapes and legends of Brittany and Wales. The second and third books, “Music for a Merman,” and “Mermaids Marry in Green,” are out now. Both the Sea of Love series and Mermaids Marry in Green won their categories in the Paranormal Romance Guild Reviewer’s Choice Award 2020. Alice has also contributed short stories for the BVS anthologies “Mystic Desire,” “Desire Me Again,” “Cowboy Desire,” and “Rainbow Desire”. Alice loves reading and writing stories, and sharing them with anyone who’s interested!
Once I started reading Mermaids Marry in Green by Alice Renaud, I couldn’t stop. I forgot how fantastic the series is and I won’t put off reading any of her work again.
The afane had awakened, only to find out he was the last of his kind. He desperately struggles to find someone he can communicate with.
Calitha is on of the strongest mermaids in the western seas, but she struggles to fulfill her destiny. She wished she had had more time with her mother, more time to prepare for her role as the leader of the three mer clans. Whenever she was in doubt, she thought, “What would my mother do.” She never found time for herself, for a love life, for romance.
When Jonty, a warlock, entered her life, all bets were off. He came to her requesting her help in dealing with the afane, a water monster in England, and she was eager to go. The attraction was immediate, but Calitha is a leader, not to be mated to a human. Even though it was forbidden, the heart wants what the heart wants. It surely will not be an easy road, but I have a feeling…Sexual tension follows them, but they put it aside to deal with the problem at hand.
She surrendered, thinking she would have one night of pleasure before she returned to her duties, but that one night told her the truth – he was her mate. Of course, we know that is coming, but I do love all the push/pull that keeps them from making a commitment. It’s how the romance will come about that becomes one of the most interesting aspects of the story.
They both had a past, a mistake made, guilt weighing them down. Of course their love will have a rocky road filled with danger, but the sex is sweet…and HOT.
I love mer stories, but all too often I don’t finish a series. I am so glad I had all three of the Sea of Love series, because once I started it, I didn’t want to quit. Now that the story is told, what do I do? Where do I go from here. Any suggestions Alice?
I voluntarily reviewed a free copy of Mermaids Marry in Green by Alice Renaud.
Caltha is a brave mermaid with a lot of responsibility on her shoulders. Caltha was saddled with the responsibility of her leading her clan with the death of her mother, that she feels responsible for. She was just a teenager, but was resolved to make her deceased mother proud. Caltha was found her duty when and handsome warlock came to her island asking for her help. Caltha had never before left her island, but the trip with Jonty to help the afanc will fill her heart and then shatter it. I am so glad Caltha got her story. The afanc is an adorable little creature. The story will have you wondering for awhile, but it all gets sorted in the end....for now.
Caltha is head of the three clans of Merfolk in the Morvann Islands. It’s a duty—and a burden—that she took upon herself when her mother died, a tragedy that Caltha feels partially responsible for. When she is called to London to help the warlocks find a water monster who threatens the underground systems and water levels in the city, Caltha welcomes a reprieve from her duties and an opportunity to see the great city her father had so often mentioned to her. It doesn’t hurt that the handsome warlock sent to fetch her, Jonty, forms an immediate attraction with her. When she finds the monster, she gets a shock. Even greater shock is the bond she and Jonty build. But will her people accept a mostly human, sometimes warlock, and her as a couple? And what about the monster? Dark forces have plans for him.
Loved this book! I’ve enjoyed every book in the series (A Merman’s Choice, Music for a Merman, and A Mermaid’s Holiday (in Desire Me Again)), but the characters of Caltha and Jonty are rich and so realistic, you forget they’re supernatural. Caltha is strong and bold. Jonty is vulnerable but brave and giving. The dangerous entities they join together to fight make worthy adversaries. As a sidelight, I think this book is a bit steamier than the others, so you know I loved it! Highly recommended.
‘A Merman’s Choice’ introduced Caltha, a sensual, feisty woman who clearly deserved a tale of her own…
‘Mermaids Marry in Green’ is that story!
Steeped in Welsh mythology, ‘Mermaids Marry in Green’ is intense and character-driven. The story reveals a tender, vulnerable side to the mermaid Caltha that we didn’t see in ‘A Merman’s Choice’. Her love interest, Jonty, is a powerful warlock struggling to move past his own demons as he begins falling for Caltha.
This is truly bewitching tale, and well worth the reading.
Plus, you’ll learn what an ‘afanc’ is. So check it out!
OH MY MERMAID TALES, MERMAIDS MARRY IN GREEN WAS AWESOME WITH A SIDE OF WOW!
Really this book was phenomenal! Exciting, adventurous, swimming in passion, uniqueness and a romance that sizzled right off the pages. This story felt imaginative and well written and definitely colorful in a way I haven't seen in a story in a while. I LOVED that. This was such a great read with a storyline that flowed beautifully and kept me entranced from beginning to end. The characters are rich in personality and the romance is amazing. To say I am impressed is putting it mildly. I couldn't be happier with this amazing story!
Mermaids Marry In Green gets a SPECTACULAR FIVE BRILLIANTLY WRITTEN STARS!
I love Alice's mermaid series. I rooted for Jonty and Caltha throughout the story and was happy with their HEA. The characters were rich and the story plot unique.
I loved the chemistry between Caltha and Jonty. I also loved the descriptions the author wrote about the water, etc. It brought them to life in my mind. This is a great series.
Finding true love is not easy. Add magical creatures bent on stopping that love or wanting to battle you to the death and you have a wonderful suspenseful romance. The evil witch hags were one of those groups making life difficult for Caltha the mermaid and Jonty the warlock. They added plenty of excitement to the Mermaids Marry in Green story.
The chemistry between Caltha and Jonty was clear from the start. No one knew that better than the afanc that could tell the truth of a situation with a sniff of air. He could recognize the smell of love or the dread of despair. The afanc was a fantastic character in this mermaid tale, and you will definitely enjoy him.
I hope that Jonty’s friend and mentor, Ariel, gets his chance at finding true love in a future novel by the talented Author Alice Renaud.
This paranormal romance has it all...action, sexy mermaids, wizards, witches and hags. Throw in a afanc, and you have an enjoyable concoction. Caltha has leadership thrust upon her at an early age when her mother dies in a storm. She takes her role in Merman society seriously. Jonty was a tracker wizard, until something so horrible happened that he walked away from his abilities. The battle to control the water beast, afanc, brings them together.
Caltha and Jonty are real characters, and you're with them every step of the way as they fall in love...then for Jonty, history repeats, and he walks away from his true love. You'll want to cry...but this is a romance story at heart. A fun, sexy, and enjoyable read. I'm now an Alice Renaud fan...and you will be too.
