There are many invisible people in the world . . . people who live hidden in the shadows and on the fringes of society. They are "misfits" with small voices. In this story, these are "the forgotten." Tim is homeless and carries a heavy burden he can't put down; Marilyn, an elderly childless widow, struggles with dementia and lives in fear; Bob's a divorced and depressed ex-policeman who is suicidal; Rosita's a very pregnant undocumented immigrant who speaks no English; and Phillip is a lonely young orphan who stutters terribly. When the worn-out levees failed to contain the storm surge, those who had decided to “ride it out” were caught unprepared. Many people died. Our five "forgotten" misfits, however, found themselves stranded together in an evacuated house surrounded by floodwaters and marsh with no way out.
