Shadow Slayers Stories #2

Stolen Portrait Stolen Soul

With a centuries-old mystical painting missing, unease pervades the mood at the Buckley manor. The painting is crucial to protecting the residents of the household from supernatural harm. The investigation takes an odd turn when it’s discovered the painting may have gone missing long before anyone realized. As the household scrambles to locate the painting, Celine Buckley begins to experience concerning physical symptoms for which a cause cannot be identified.
Worried her attacks are caused by the missing painting, household resident and one of Celine’s closest allies, Damien Sherwood, throws himself into the search. Proposing an astounding theory, Damien convinces the family to explore a surprising avenue. While he and his best friend, Michael, explore an extraordinary location, they find they may have bitten off more than they can chew. In a strange and foreign location, the situation spirals out of their control for both the men and Celine.
Can Michael and Damien retrieve the painting? And even if they do, what will be waiting for them when they return?

With everything happening in the world today, this supernatural, time-traveling adventure was a fun escape that had just the right amount of suspense and surprising plot twists. I had the opportunity to listen to the audiobook version of this story, narrated by Graham Mack, who was a little too good at making me cringe every time the manipulative Celeste or the ego-centric Duke spoke while lulling us into a false sense of security with his warm interpretation of Celine, Grayson, Damian, Alexander and our other heroes. Just when you think everything is going to be okay … another twist. The story ends with a cliffhanger that will keep readers on the edge of their seats.

Absolutely, WOW!

This was so good! Time travel is so confusing, though. Memories from one timeline, then new memories pop in. Do they replace the old memories? So many questions! I really enjoyed it all. This is a great series!

Another grand adventure for Celine, Damien, Michael, Grayson and crew. I’m really starting to dislike Marcus tho. He’s a great villain, yet so annoying! I did enjoy the book/audiobook very much as I switch between the two depending on what I’m doing. My only issue, which I know is dumb, is that the cover of the book has a beautiful cover with the stunning picture of Celine, (Mia). The problem is that in the painting Celine has luscious dark hair instead of her beautiful, blonde curls. Since I’m such a visual learner, this makes it difficult for me to mentally picture her as a blonde while I’m reading. Don’t get me wrong, the cover is gorgeous, just that one tiny detail is out of order. If you prefer the audiobook format, Graham Mack is an amazing narrator! He makes a disturbingly wicked sounding Marcus voice. Lol He is obviously a gifted narrator to provide such a great audio. 5 Stars for both the author as well as the narrator! 😍

This is book 2 in the Shadow Slayers series and if you haven’t read book 1 “Shadows of the Past” I recommend that you do. While it’s not essential, it paves the way for a fuller understanding of the background to this story.
Celine is still having problems with painful memories that don’t show themselves clearly enough to be able to fully understand them. Added to that her portrait that hung in the entryway of the house she shares with her husband Gray is missing.
Celine knows that her portrait must be recovered to have any semblance of peace. The question is who stole the painting and when?
With the help of Gray, Alexander, Michael and Damien and a spot of time travelling will the portrait be recovered? Read the book to find out.
Make sure that you set aside time for this book as Nellie Steele writes in such a way that once you begin to read it you won’t want to put it down.
I loved it and can't wait for book 3 to become available.

Stolen Portrait Stolen Soul is the second in the Shadow Slayer Series that not only complements the first book but adds additional insight into the development of the plot and its characters. The storyline evolves as the cast seeks to take back a protective painting that protects the Buckley family from the evil forces of the sinister Duke, who stole the painting centuries ago. The story is a paranormal mystery with a twist I find intriguing and action that keeps the interest focused. Nellie Steele has done an excellent job of crafting the characters to be conceivable and satisfying, whether it's the relationship between the evil Duke and the heroine Mina, or Mina and her two cohorts in her adventures, Ms. Steele brings the emotional element to full heart. I enjoyed this book and would recommend it, especially to anyone who read the first installment.
