At thirty-nine years of age, Ruby Grace Plowman simply gets up one morning and walks out of her life leaving it all behind.
Since losing his wife, Brett Culpepper doesn’t care about anybody or anything. Burying himself in his construction job by day and restoring old furniture by night helps keep his mind off living. That is until Ruby Grace Plowman walks into town.
Can a woman with a secret past help him get his mind back on living? And, what happens when that secret past catches up with Ruby Grace?
The “Shady Rivers” series will introduce you to a small Southern town filled with quirky characters, Southern roots, and love around every corner.
If there were ever a town to offer escape from the worries and cares of our world, my vote would have to be on Shady Rivers, Alabama. This community, nestled in the imaginations of author Magnolia "Maggie" Rivers and those of her readers, is a place where folks care for one another, laugh and honor one another's eccentricities. It's a town built on old-fashioned values that never grow old. From the book's outset, the reader knows without a doubt that the romance contained within is going to end happily, but not before receiving a strong dose of this author's infectious sense of humor. "Ruby Grace" is the third novel written in the Shady River series, ("Magical Mistletoe" and "Harley's Heart") and although it can definitely stand alone, I enjoyed reading it with prior knowledge of the townsfolk introduced earlier. Ruby Grace, a newcomer to Shady Rivers, is a middle-aged, soon-to-be-divorced woman from Iowa who has been living in a loveless marriage. Not long after she arrives in town, she meets widower Brett Culpepper who, up until this point, believes he will never love again. Well, those familiar with author Maggie Rivers know from the outset that this story is going to have a happy ending with myriad feel-good moments in between. All of that said, I personally am not a fan of explicit sexual romantic scenes, which readers will certainly find in this novel and in earlier ones, as well. But despite not enjoying such detail, I am always certain when I pick up a Shady Rivers novel, I will be transported by the author to a beautiful and loving small town filled with the full gamut of human experience and emotions, and that I will come away from the book with a smile on my face and a good feeling in my heart. "Ruby Grace" did just that.
I laughed out loud several times while reading this book. The characters are easy to identify with and the dialogue follows very well. Of course the hot scenes are H O T T HOT! Well done Ms. Rivers!
