LILLIAN ABBOTT is the daughter of a wealthy real estate agent during the height of the Great Depression. Finding happiness for herself whilst pleasing her father proves to be a difficult balance to maintain, especially when she meets the charming and lovable Henry, an impoverished pianist. Their tale of romance, heavy with the weight of economic differences and strict family values, is one to be remembered by generations to come.
CHARLIE QUINN is a college student in the year 1990. A textbook over-thinker, Charlie’s main concern is doing well in school and gaining the approval of her overprotective mother. She does everything she can to avoid being swept off her feet by Jonah, the enigmatic bassist of the college’s most popular cover band, but such things are often inevitable.
Our Song is Rowan’s sparkling debut about love, heartbreak, and the strength of family bonds. Discover the truth about these two women and their incredible journeys separated only by time.
This novel takes you on an emotional journey of friendship, love and the importance of family bonds. I loved the two separate timelines and how they're interwoven together throughout the story. This novel ebbed and flowed to take the reader on a riveting journey that pulls you in and never let's go! I didn't want the story to end! I highly recommend this novel and cannot wait for another by this talented young author.
My mom got this book for me for Christmas. I finished it in a whole school day, I love it! Kate, can't wait for more of your work! I hope that you're doing well Have a good year!- Riley Cordova P.S. Next time that you are in town (Palmerton) can you please sign my copy?
I love stories with a parallel time line and characters. There is also something special about a story that involves a character and their grandparents. I think we have much we can learn from them. Charlotte has a wonderful loving relationship with her grandmother and there are similarities in their story that show that closeness.
With my love of music this story really pulled me into the lives with both ladies being involved with musicians. One thing that really blows my mind is how people wold marry for convenience rather than love. I recently read another story that talked of this and was informed that is still happens today.
I think you can feel a deep connection with the authors own life in her writing with own her grandparents. I could relate very well with the music connections. The love of music was passed down to many of the grandchildren in our family. Even though our stories are different, I felt very connected to Charlie and her love for her grandparents.
This is a very sweet story and amazing debut for Kate Rowan- Congratulations and Bravo!!!!
