I read and annotated this book prior to the AP test, (although I think my copy was slightly different) I think it's a very helpful source to refresh on any information that was covered through the year. I know I forget any minor ideas by the end of the year, and this helped me to leave it fresh in my mind. The big ideas of each period were covered well, and the book set up was easy to understand. My copy had two practice tests as well as an answer key with explanations, the explanations were occasionally unhelpful, but overall gave you a feel for the "personality of the test" (similar to SAT's).

On a more critical side, I think a bit "too much" of the book was minor events, if you are using it to prepare for the AP exam it's slightly over-explanatory. (of course you can always skip around) Each unit definitely had some extra material that seemed too minor to be a good example for the LEQ/DBQ/FRQ section, and I would probably stick with more significant information from class.

The test section was extremely helpful. (It also included about 5 questions after each unit as samples) I took all of the multiple choice available in my book, and after taking the AP exam I'd say they were very similar, if anything the textbook was slightly harder than the test. For me, this is ideal, I got the feeling for how to pace my questions and how much time to analyze each piece of stimulus. Going through the explanations would consistently break down the concepts within the text/images, but, it was more hit-or-miss on explanations for analyzing an "argument". Sometimes it would include why it wasn't the other options, but other times it would only break down the main concept.

Overall I think this guide helped me a ton on the test, although I don't have my results yet, I think this guide prepared me for each section of the test. Although the test content changes each year, a lot of my test was about the earlier stages of America, and this practice had me feel confident on the essay questions.
