Author Bridgit Dengel Gaspard coined the term “the final eighth” to describe a phenomenon she experienced herself and observed in talented, energetic, motivated people accomplish many steps toward a goal (seven-eighths of it) but then are mysteriously stalled. Practical tips and pep talks don’t work because the problem — and the solution — lies deeper. While the conscious, everyday self says, “I want this,” other inner selves worry that success will put them in some kind of danger. The powerful secret? Not every part of you wants what you think you want! The innovative technique of voice dialogue will help you communicate with your alter egos, whatever your goal is. In the process, you’ll discover and liberate inner “wise counselors, canny advisers, and magical sages,” transforming them into valuable allies who’ll help you finally achieve your goals.
A Brilliant Guide to Achieving Your Goals and Dreams!
As a therapist, practitioner, and trainer of Voice Dialogue for over 30 years, I find Voice Dialogue to be an amazingly simple but rich experiential process of healing: If we can deeply experience different parts of ourselves, we find a center of awareness and choice. In the final 8th, Bridget Dengel Gaspard has written a true gem! A masterful and contemporary book that showcases how Voice Dialogue helps us overcome our procrastination. Gaspard brings an ease and straight-forwardness in using Voice Dialogue to help us move through and beyond those places in our life wherein we find ourselves stuck and unable to finish the tasks and goals that we have set for ourselves. We are almost there, but something in our subconscious is holding us back.
Gaspard’s book not only helps us accomplish our goals, but, truly, helps us heal early wounds to help us lead a more conscious and rewarding life in general. She compassionately guides us to understand how our early, often unconscious, protective thoughts and behaviors keeps us stuck in old patterns and prevent us from reaching our full potential and our goals. I especially love the way she leads us to extricate ourselves from our “twisted loyalties.” Gaspard illustrates just how Voice Dialogue enables us to have compassion for these early adaptations that protect our vulnerability yet get in our way. Her book helps show us how to choose to become brave enough to try new ways to complete a task and execute our dreams to enable us to lead a more fulfilling life.

This book made be both laugh and motivated, often at the same time. I'm someone who has always been seen as underperforming of my 'true potential' and often get questions about why I'm "just" this or that. Whether it be in my career, my personal life, or my amateur music performances, there has always been something internally that has stopped me from taking the last steps towards the next, and bigger, chapter and role. While superficially I could identify it as 'fear', I still couldn't seem to get past it. This book helped me delve deep within, and to face down those fears unafraid. It gave me the inspiration and the tools to be able to safely understand what was going on that was causing those blocks. The chapters are 'short' and readable, yet pack a very powerful punch it what is offered to you. The book may be small of nature, and large in impact. I cannot thank the author enough for this book, as it has given me a new energy and renewed drive to take an honest look at myself and allow the possibilities of life to actually feel...possible. Pick up this book, you will NOT regret it!
The Final 8th is an easy read and a life manual in plain terms for those who already do “the work.”
After discovering Voice Dialogue some years ago at a performing arts retreat with Eric Morris, I was intrigued by the uniquely personal philosophy and practice. Years later, I again found myself ready to dig deep only to find author Bridgit Dengel Gaspard—who is also the founder of the New York Voice Dialogue Institute—had coined “the final eighth,” a term she used to describe the self-sabotage that so many people experience in sight of life’s finish line.
For those who are ready to dig deeper, cultivate more self-awareness, and nurture the balance of the inner matrix of unique selves, this is your doorway. Beyond enjoying an interesting read, what gives The Final 8th elevated relevance is taking it off the page and unpacking the possibilities with Dengel Gaspard IRL at any of her online discovery labs.
Bridget helps her clients discover and engage their inner world through the voice dialogue method, which I am finding to be an indispensable holistic tool. What I discovered in reading Bridget’s new book is that there were very clear and strong voices, characters, or aspects of myself that I’d never really acknowledged. Many of these characters embody some of my best and worst characteristics, adopting them as their full identity. - - - - - - - - - - Listen to my interview with Bridgit Dengel Gaspard >> https://www.findthegood.news/2020/11/...
This book is a quick read. Especially, as the author repeated herself several times. The main premise is good and the structure of the book was good. What didn't work is, why "the final 8th"? The author gave no explanation for what exactly the first 7/8 was in clear stages. Instead, it seems like she came up with gimmicky lingo. I wanted to like this book but it felt like there was missing content. Just as she was explaining an interesting point, she moved on to the next. All in all, it seems that she packaged a few different techniques into a method that she uses with clients. Which is fine but not groundbreaking.
