Kristoff Baldwin was everything I didn’t need...too intense, too rich, too handsome, too overbearing and too jealous.
And I fell in love with him! I wanted him, all of him. But ultimately his actions made me realize I couldn’t let the past repeat itself. So I left the country in an attempt to get over him and come to terms with the outcome of our fling. I spent nights dreaming about him, and my days trying to forget every moment with him.
The last thing I expected was to see him before I was ready, with a gorgeous redhead by his side.

'Final Chance At Love' is the second book of the Duet by Eva Winners.
This book was a one time read for me. I liked the plot , but just couldn't connect to the characters to a very deep level. The emotions were not properly expressed and it seemed like something was always missing.
However I am a sucker for Second chance Romances so I like some parts of this book and the ending was pretty good. The story continues from where the first one ended. Gemma and Kristoff are perfect and I would recommend this to a second chance Romance lover!
Jumping in to book 2 without reading or realising there was a book 1, was a happy accident for me.
The story begins exactly where book 1 ended, with a broken hearted Gemma running away from Kristoff’s accusations and harsh words. Not knowing exactly what had happened, it was an exciting opening to a book, packed with emotion. When Kristoff finally enters the picture he’s a different man, the cruelty is almost immediately forgotten and the pair get back to the non/relationship they are in, but it’s built on distrust and half truths.
Kristoff, burned from his past is jealous of everyone Gemma comes in to contact with, even her best friend, and is desperate for Gemma to sign a contract, which he believes he needs so his heart won’t get involved. Gemma refuses to sign time and again, and after finding out some shocking news, only to walk into Kristoff’s office to find him interviewing her replacement, enough is enough, Gemma ups and leaves for the rest of the summer. Kristoff can’t let her go though, and although it takes him some time, he finds Gemma, and takes his final chance at love, letting her know his true feelings.
Gemma is again left broken hearted, by a man, though very different to her late husband, the way Kristoff distrusts her scares her, she isn’t the same woman she was when she was married, but she doesn’t want a callous, contracted relationship with Kristoff, she wants his trust and his heart, so when she learns she has something more important to concentrate on, as well as walking in on him talking to another woman, her heart can’t take anymore. She knows she will have to see him again, but she isn’t prepared when she does, and even more so, isn’t prepared for him to finally offer up his heart.
Reading book 1 after book 2, actually made me enjoy it more. I strongly disliked Kristoff in the first book, his ideas, his contract, his ways, his volatile temper all added to it. I also disliked Gemma’s best friend Betty, the way she pushed Gemma, knowing what she’d been through, the way she viewed Kristoff and how Gemma would be lucky to catch his eye, though the why she was pushing is made clear in book two, if I’d read them in order, I wouldn’t have been able to get over it.
Though you start the book feeling as if you are missing something, I like the order I read these in best, this story was more enjoyable and entertaining, and I was more invested in the relationship and the happily ever after this way.
So this book picks up right where the first book ended (I got lucky and got to read them back-to-back), and the tension and angst is still ramped up between Kristoff and Gemma. Not gonna lie, there were some moments where I wanted to high-five Kristoff. In the face. But that's when you know a story is really good when you imagine doing bodily harm to a fictional character lol. Both he and Gemma need some time apart to work through their respective issues and hopefully learn to grow from their experiences, and for goodness sake, learn how to communicate with each other!
I am in love with Kristoff and Gemma’s romance! I am so involved with the story, the author is so clever to do that! A was shouting, angry a bit then happy again, indeed a roller coaster of my emotions. The characters are interesting, well-developed and have chemistry. The story is interesting, well-written. I am proud to recommend this book. Congrats Author Eva, you did it again! Looking forward to read your incoming books.
If you know me I hate cliffhangers so I was so happy I had not read book 1 before reading this book! I became so obsessed with the book and engrossed in the story line, there was no putting it down. Kristoff and Gemma's love is not a simple fairy tale but has all the angst of a great love story. These tow will fill you with raw emotion but, it is a romance so the HEA is there too. And Croatia is now on my bucket list for travel!!
Let me tell you, I have been (im)patiently waiting for Final Chance at Love by Eva Winners to come out because I was hungry for the rest of the story after where Second Chance at Love left off, and I was not disappointed! The tension immediately picked up where it left off and I was sucked back into the world, hungry for more of the sweet and strong Gemma, and I can't help but like him even if I want to smack him upside the head right now Kristoff.
Emotions are high, and events that have taken place lead to miscommunication, misconstrued experiences, and the story is all the better for it!
Gemma needs some time and space to find clarity, to find herself, to find out what's true, what's real, and what she wants and needs to be happy.
Kristoff has a lot of hard truths he needs to face and tackle, and it's not going to be the easiest road to travel.
This is a beautifully emotional rollercoaster ride of a journey, carrying lovely messages about the importance of friendship, of honesty, and the power of trust and love.
As the second book in a duet it wrapped up the story in the best possible way and I know I'll be revisiting this couple and the wonderfully colorful cast of secondary characters soon!
I loved the continuation of Gemma and Kristoff's story. I was even more invested in their story with this one. It was an emotional roller coaster ride for the two of them. Especially after where it was left off from the first book.
You won’t be disappointed with this duet and now you can binge read both!
I've recently discovered this author, this is my second read of hers and Ms. Winner is going to a favorite of mine for sure! I was so upset the way book 1 Second Chance At Love ended but book 2 surely cured that! I don't think I've yelled at 2 characters so much before, their chemistry is so undeniable! But old wounds die hard, as is very much the case. This book was so great an easy 5 stars! Gemma and Kristoff really gave me a run for my money but the ending was everything I needed to end such a great love story. This book is about redemption, letting go of the past, and just being honest, a great book all around you wont be disappointed in the series I promise. The description of the scenery of Croatia was so beautiful! If I can get over that plane ride I may need to take a trip!
HOLY HELL! Gemma & Kristoff's story was an emotional roller coaster ride & one for the ages! Final Chance At Love the conclusion to their journey, so YOU MUST READ Second Chance At Love (Book 1) FIRST! Since this is the conclusion, I will not give details because of those who love to read ahead. There's so much going on with them, they both have pasts which play into mistakes along the way, redemption, and honestly?!! Letting go of the past for love to conquer all. Ms. Winners is such a descriptive genius that I truly felt like I was in Croatia myself, and it was breathtaking. I've now added this super talented author to my list of must reads, and I believe you will as well. Will Gemma & Kristoff be able to let go of their pasts for a shot at a new, brighter future together?! Hit those one click buttons to find out! HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND TO ALL!
I purchased this books because of the amazing reviews on Amazon and oh boy, they were all right. Such a good books with great characters that keeps you obsessed with every page since the first one. I couldn't put this down until I ended. the love story is so beautifull! I was on a roller coaster of emotions and that´s what I look for on my readings. Amazing job!!
This is the second half of a single story that started in Second Chance At Love. Since this is a single story they have the same review.
This a single POV story of Gemma, widowed mother of 3, and Kristoff, "trillionaire". She is desperate for a job and agrees to interview for an admin job although she has CFO experience. She stutters through her interview but gets called back for the second interview. She has failed to read a document before it and so did not know it was a test to see how compatible their bodies are. When she figures out he wants a glorified prostitute, who has to not only spread her legs but also bring him coffee and look after his spreadsheets, she refuses the job. He convinces her to give it a no-sex 2 month trial.
There are some positives. --Characters are older (35 ish and 45 ish) --It was easy to skim. --There is a nice platonic friendship between the h and a male friend. Although she is pretty shitty to him when it is suggested strongly that he has always wanted to fuck her. Luckily it did not last long. --There were numerous editing issues but not past the point of normal for self published authors who don't hire someone to do basic proof-reading.
The rest was dreadful. I read a lot of iffy books and enjoy them for what they are. So the level I expected from this book was along the lines of any Porn with Plot KU book. That is not all that much. However it is not very steamy at all so perhaps I should have tried judging it as a contemporary romance but either way this fell short of the mark by a huge margin.
Most of my complaints fall into the logic fail and TSTL categories. I could not possibly list them all. Here are a few: --A woman who has 3 children and who had many many miscarriages apparently does not know the symptoms of pregnancy, nor how to care for herself once pregnant. --Her friend knew the job required sex when she suggested Gemma apply. He has had personal assistants before her and it is implied he has used them in this manner for 16 years. He attends events both corporate and personal with her where they are clearly a couple. Yet somehow she is shocked that her coworkers know they are having sex with one another. --Random things are in the story that go nowhere or are never explained. Why is his ex jealous even though she has been with her current husband for 16 years. Why do people question how well she gets on with the other secretary. --Why is her dead husband's truck mentioned at all? Yes she gets car seats out of it but she does not drive it so the car seats are over a year old. This would be fine maybe for a booster seat but an infant seat is much different. --She is apparently desperate for money. Yet she has a huge house with a view plus 2 more houses in Croatia. --A loving mother of 3 routinely is somehow without her phone almost every time she is without her children. She also apparently forgets to tell anyone things they would rightly --She told 4 people where she was going and none of them shared. None of the 4 are her coworkers. Coworker S shows up and she asks how he found her and he replies that coworker T told him. There is zero explanation given as to how T knew. --I don't care how successful the man is he is not going to pay her 4.2 million dollars to rent 2 bedrooms in her house for 6 weeks. And if he did then he is TSTL. And given she does not want to see him and refused his demands before I did not believe she would have suggested it. --Why do they need a US judge flown in to perform a wedding in Croatia? She is Croatian and can speak fluently so she can certainly handle the paperwork. And Croatian marriages are legal in the US.
Most of the above would be only slightly annoying on their own but it just goes on and on like that. The unsafe yet somehow still boring sex was enough to put me off all on its own. So too was her initial decision to not tell him she is pregnant.
(the above is a reminder to me to not read books by this author - sometimes I forget why I hate a book)
I just love Kristoff and Gemma’s romance and all the intimate and seriously steamy scenes! Their growth, passion, vulnerability and genuine love comes through strong in this book as they finally work through their insecurities and open up about their pasts and what they truely need from each other. It wasn’t the smoothest of journeys as so much happens and hidden truths are revealed but they do get their HEA in the end.
The secondary characters also add so much more emotion and depth to the story. I loved getting more insight to Rick and Betty’s relationship and the feelings and issues that were never quite acknowledged or dealt with over the years.
Another good book by this author! Loved reading all of her books. I do not want to say much but what a killer ending to a series of hardcore romance. Winners know how to write, and make a love story a true reality. I applauded you, and hope to read more from you later on.
Eva Winners’ sequel to Second Chance at Love continues the saga of Gemma and Kristoff. She’s a widowed mother of 3 with a past to overcome who works for the dominant Kristoff, a bachelor billionaire with his own past. As Gemma continues to grow and become a more independent, secure woman, her relationship with Kristoff is strained to the breaking point. Winners does a fabulous job of tracking Gemma’s growth while making Kristoff soften and become more the man she needs if a long term relationship is going to work. Winners’ talent as a writer continues to grow with each book she publishes. She’s now been added to my “must read” author list.
As we continue with Gemma and Kristoff's relationship with all the ups and downs. You really start to feel invested in their love and hoping the whole time for a happy outcome. I want nothing more than to go visit Croatia as it is described so beautifully that I want to be there. I absolutely loved this book.
I absolutely loved the continuation of Kristoff and Gemma’s story. It sucks you right in and doesn’t let go. If you haven’t read the first book do so now you won’t be disappointed at all.
This is the continuation of book one! Gemma lets her guard down, falling for her boss, Kristoff. With the cost of her past ghosts over her head and shadow. She tried to escape the inevitable of her past repeated once again. Little did she know Kristoff didn't give up, he was willing to do anything to have her back but will they work out their problem they both have: Trust.
This was really good, I enjoyed this very much more than the first one. This was an emotional rollercoaster, it had so much feels, like a punch in the gut and so much intense chemistry (intimacy) 🥵 I loved the characters, the little plot twist you put in Eva you dropped it like bomb on me...so unexpected!
Gemma and Kristoff relationship is really intense; going back to back on feeling so much then trying to distance themselves, it was a real struggle. Especially for Gemma who was in so deep she wanted more than she could ever have. Kristoff is a sexy stud...a very passionate man with questionable intentions about this contract he's dying to get it signed by Gemma. Read to find out, book one is Second Chance at Love and it's a 𝗠𝗨𝗦𝗧 & 𝗥𝗘𝗤𝗨𝗜𝗥𝗘 read!
Thank you Eva for giving me this for an honest review, you made me cry and feel so much for Gemma in this book! 😭❤ Rating: 5/5 ⭐
Kristoff and Gemma’s ending is one of the greatest of any romance novel read! What these two have endured is enough for anyone to throw in the towel right from the beginning. Both have such scarred pasts and to overcome these issues takes a toll on both their emotions, just to come together stronger at the end. I was so engulfed in the passion and expectations that didn’t even realize l was already done and wanting more! Kristoff is such a down to earth, lovable man (with a bit of a jealous side) that makes their desire for one another that much more manageable, especially with their past history of relationships. He may be a forceful businessman who gets whatever he wants, stopping at nothing to guarantee this, but Gemma holds the power to break him down and show his loving, nurturing side. Even after all the turmoil, abuse, and heartache Gemma has endured, she falls head over heels for the most eligible bachelor, Mr. Kristoff Baldwin, while he fell for Miss Rose at first site, a struggling widow with three beautiful girls. Prepare yourself for a tear filled, emotion packed ending!
This is the end of Kristoff and Gemma's love story. This 2 book series was initially published in 2020 and then repackaged in 2022 as The Exception. That was the first book of Billionaire Kings, which covered the Ashford siblings. Byron and Winston Ashford were featured in this book. The first book ended abruptly when Kristoff and Gemma had a major fight. This resumed where it ended. The combined book makes more sense than a 2 book series. Both principals loved each other from the beginning, they just didn't communicate it. Kristoff is a completely different person by the end of the series. He is caring, loving and has conquered his jealousy. Gemma is the same with more confidence and no ghosts. I recommend this book.
I wished we could have heard from Kristoff. I really wanted to know he was thinking. Loved that they all met at her vacation home. They were truly attracted to one another. Loved that he was all in with her kids and they loved him. Rick and Betty were nice but Rick was a bit too much for me. Samuel was funny. I liked him. Jonathan and his son were nice. When did Kristoff and Jonathan become some what friendly again? Where was Jonathan's wife and Kristoff's ex wife? When did Rick and Kristoff become friends? I did not want this book to end. There were some errors in this book but nothing to keep you from reading it. It would have been nice to have a follow up book with an update on everybody.
🔎🔍 sweet, romantic, amazing, wonderful characters, full of ups and downs, are a few words to describe this book, and let me tell you is totally worth it. Love how the author creates this couple and the different characters that give a little something additional to their story making it a worthy read. This 2 books can be read in matter of hours as you want to see what would happen so they can have their happy ever after. Hands down I totally recommend it.
One of the best Duets I've read. The story and characters have depth, and love that the female character is not a damsel in distress, easily manipulated kind of woman! Thank you!
