J.A. Huss never wanted to be a writer and she still dreams of that elusive career as an astronaut. She originally went to school to become an equine veterinarian but soon figured out they keep horrible hours and decided to go to grad school instead. That Ph.D wasn’t all it was cracked up to be (and she really sucked at the whole scientist thing), so she dropped out and got a M.S. in forensic toxicology just to get the whole thing over with as soon as possible.

After graduation she got a job with the state of Colorado as their one and only hog farm inspector and spent her days wandering the Eastern Plains shooting the shit with farmers. After a few years of that, she got bored. And since she was a homeschool mom and actually does love science, she decided to write science textbooks and make online classes for other homeschool moms. She wrote more than two hundred of those workbooks and was the number one publisher at the online homeschool store many times, but eventually she covered every science topic she could think of and ran out of shit to say.

So in 2012 she decided to write fiction instead. That year she released her first three books and started a career that would make her a New York Times bestseller and land her on the USA Today Bestseller’s List eighteen times in the next three years. Her books have sold millions of copies all over the world, the audio version of her semi-autobiographical book, Eighteen, was nominated for a Voice Arts Award and an Audie award in 2016 and 2017 respectively, her audiobook Mr. Perfect was nominated for a Voice Arts Award in 2017, and her book, Taking Turns, was nominated for an Audie Award in 2018. Johnathan McClain is her first (and only) writing partner and even though they are worlds apart in just about every way imaginable, it works.

She lives on a ranch in Central Colorado with her family.

What a crazy rollercoaster ride this was!

The setting: High Court College

The Hero: Christopher “Cooper” Valcourt – The son of the Chairman of High Court Prep and High Court College. Cooper’s father is the leader of the “Fang and Feathers” Secret Society and Cooper is set to be the next King.

The heroine: Cadee Hunter – Her parents worked at High Court College and home schooled her. After they both died, the chairman offered her the chance to serve the Fang and Feathers and she fell for Cooper who was the King Bully.

Love Story:Cooper and Cadee fell in love and now Cadee is a Freshman at the college and Cooper is a senior. The plan was for all the kids to get out of the Fang and Feathers and finish off the final year of college before leaving town

This story had me all over the place and in the end I thought it was great. Any writer that can have you hating the characters, including the two main characters as much as I did for the first half of the book and keep your interest enough till you hang on every word and end up loving the story is spectacular as far as I am concerned.

I almost scrapped this book and marked it as DNF, I was so mad at the characters and what they were doing. However, I just had to find out how it all turned out and what went on and I am glad I did. I certainly never could have predicted some of the things that took place in this book. You should see my status updates on this one (including gifs), they show my progression from hate to love. 🤨🙃😌

This book was a trip, let me tell you. Seriously, it was one mindfuck after another. We learn in the first book that there’s a secret society but that’s just the tip of the iceberg.

One secret after another was revealed, until everything you thought you knew was a lie. It’s total chaos and I am here for it.

Kadee continually compared her role in all of this to The Handmaid’s Tale and that comparison is spot on. It started to feel less like a secret society and more like a cult.

Not to say anything about the rollercoaster of emotions you’re about to endure. From adoration to hate to nausea to confusion to fury. Your heart and mind will run the gamut.

Up is down, left is right, right is wrong. You know absolutely nothing. I’m extremely impressed with the work Ms. Huss put into this duet. As far as I’m concerned, it’s a flipping masterpiece.

**SPOILERS under Sexual History**

Skimmed this also since the same lack of focus and emotional/romantic substance as Book1.

But I wanted to know exactly what happened to h and H and his friends 3 years ago. This book had even more characters than Book1 and the crazy cult-like features of their elite school structure became apparent (i.e., rites, sex rituals, initations). It became this BDSM-y secret cult book. It was devoid of romance/emotion/sexual tension. It didn't even give any hot sex description from their 4-some 3 years ago. Not even that! The only redeeming part is that H owned up to his stupidity and selfishness to encourage h to get an abortion and then immediately cruelly reject her from his life, after her abortion procedure. He did show that h mattered to him more now. But the busy-ness of all the cult stuff and h’s switching from being a poor victim to this special-Maiden got in the way. It's a fictional mess. HFN at best.

Sexual History:
No info on who and how many lovers h had by the time she was 15 and starting smexxing 18yo h.s.-senior H and his friends. They started out bullying h to do their homework and then watching/stalking her to touching to eventually smexxing in about a 6-month span. She considered them as becoming her “best friends” that year until H ended things. Not sure if they ever all smexxed her at the same time. H liked to watch her being touched and kissed by his 2 BFFs but felt jealous about it. However, he never stopped his friends from touching/smexxing her. Things ended after h was raped by H’s older brother and she got pregnant. No clear info on whether condoms or birth control was used at all at that time by them. When she told h about her pregnancy, H gave her the option re; abortion and she agreed. After he drove her back from the abortion clinic, he ended his relationship with h. He deliberately discouraged h from pressing charges against his rapist brother because he wanted to use the rape info to blackmail his bro later. h went back to just hanging out with her parents after that until her mom died and H’s father proposed for her to go to their college with a scholarship and gave her money. When she reconnected with H again 3 years later, she BJ-ed H publicly and let him touch her publicly too. She also let some of the guys in their initiation group kiss and touch/suck her boobs until H’s friend put a stop to it.

21yo H was a manho but no details on previous girlfriends or lovers. When he started talking to h again 3 years later, he made sure that h could her him kiss his faux-girlfriend and finger her outside her door. However, his faux-girlfriend was a lesbian but not sure why she let him kiss and finger her and she seemed to like it, unless it was just an act. But they didn’t talk about it prior to him just suddenly kissing and touching her by h’s bedroom door. When he and h started smexxing again in current time, no condoms were used and no birth control mentioned. Don't think H was celibate for any length of time before h and he started smexxing since he was a self-professed partier.

Holy Wow!!! The second book in this dark duet is here and Prepare Yourself!! With the ending of book one you know secrets and chaos will unravel in this deliciously dark read! Cooper Valcourt and Cadee Hunter’s journey continues as they want answers and vengeance for the corruption all around them. Can they make their plan come to fruition or will others interfere with their own hidden agenda? This is a wild ride of deception, lies, twists and so much more you will need to pick your jaw up off the floor. All the characters from book one are back too. There is so much happening in this but I cannot say a word. Such an intricate storyline and colorful characters, this is a definite must read duet! Cadee is so strong and Cooper, well what can I say about Cooper but wow! I also hope Ax has a spin-off or novella...SOMETHING! You won’t be disappointed with this dark suspense/mystery romance. 10 Stars!! Told in dual POV

I don't even bother reading the synopsis anymore when it comes to this author, because I will read just about anything she puts out. "Bully romances" are not my thing however - like how and why the fuck is abuse being glorified? I like banter - BANTER, people!!! - and chemistry and pranks (JMac is the queen of this) as much as the next girl but I don't need to read about non-con or dub-con (how is that NOT assault??????) or whatever the fuck is the rage these days. The only thing it does is normalizes shitty relationships and glorifies assault and abuse - incredibly problematic for young readers. I'm not going to sit on my high horse and pretend I never enjoyed it, because the early books in this "genre" still happen to be some of my favourite. Now it's a fucking wasteland that I don't want to touch with a 100-ft pole.

Back to this author though. Of course I read it. And of course it was different than a typical "bully" romance. Honestly, all of her stories start out innocuous and innocent and then slowly but surely she will drop you in the middle of the most mysterious plot and it should get old but I LOVE it!!! She is SO good at it - and why fix something that's not broke(n)?

This was no exception; the first book sets the scene and this one executes it. I love her writing and I love how she makes you believe. I'm not going to say anything about the story or the characters because you should/must go in blind to all her books. I want more of all the characters - another Company-esque series? I'm here for it.

'Ruling class' is the second book of the 'Kings of High Court' series by the best-selling author J.A. Huss. Told in dual perspectives , get ready to return to High court again!!!

After reading the first book of this series , the second book has been one of my most anticipated ones , like ever!! I love the ending of this series and would like to read the stories of other characters too! Cadee and Cooper don't have a nice story. It's messy and pulls at your heart strings in the most delicious ways. I hated the way they both acted at times. Cadee's submission and cooper's arrogance was sometimes too much for me to handle. But I got where they were coming from. The author provided some amazing twists in the story and ending shocked me a bit. I was not expecting that!!

I won't lay into you , the whole storyline , but what I can tell you is that none of you are prepared for the Awesomeness this author is going to throw at you! The story has all the feels and I absolutely could not put it down until the very end. Every character in this series had their own stories and pains. I loved getting to know some of the whole stories and we got a glimpse of the rest of them. Maybe this author has mercy on my soul and gives us stories of the other characters too!!

A definite recommendation to all the dark Romance lovers out there!! But like I mentioned before , this story has some dark bullying parts , specially the first part of the series and if you guys somehow get through that , then the author has a lots of surprises for you! It's the most amazing book ever with many twists and turns !

Wow the pace is relentless in this series. But I loved how hard and fast it was. I felt as if I couldn't read fast enough. The end ah the end, ultimate Hussie ending.

Can't say more cuz you have to read this book. But Cadee and Cooper definitely get their moments.

More to come. I am trying to put my thoughts together after that after-shock wears off.

Darkly intense, Bully, College Romance,

OMG... WOW!!!! We are back at Kings High Court College. THIS book is darker and more emotionally intense than book 1 Bully King. All the guys and girls are back they are the new members of the Fangs and Feathers secret group, what they going to do? They have this plan to bring the chairman Valcourt, and its cahoots down, but do you think Cadee Hunter and Cooper Valcourt have things figured out? Can they fight the forces of this 200 years old secret cult?
Get ready for a rollercoaster ride of your life. There's so many secret, betrayals, cruelty, murder, lies, cheating.....gosh the twists and turns this book takes will leave you breathless, cringing, horrified, speechless, and crying your eyes out! I could not put this book down! I kept twisting for Cadee and Cooper through all the craziness.
All the way until the end the surprises kept coming, it's not your typical HEA, but it definitely fits the storyline of the books !
JA Huss this was an amazing duet, it was my first books I read by you and what an incredible experienced I had, thank you. This was a ARC provided by author to me, and my review is given completely voluntarily. I can't wait to read more books by you 😍

The only reason I even read book 2 is because it was kindle unlimited and just like Cadee, I wanted to know what was going on. I feel let down, because there wasn't really a big reveal. I already knew what was going on and not one character surprised me. They were all just as shallow and vapid as they were in book 1. Honestly, I thought Cadee got worse. Cooper was the same. I kept hoping he would somehow redeem himself or at the very least be smarter than he appeared, but he wasn't. The boy was seriously dumb.
I'm struggling to understand what the point of the story was. I mean, there was so much going on, that it was confusing, but at the end I was left wondering, what was the point? I never felt like Cooper and Cadee had any connection deeper than lust for one another. I thought that Lars and Ax would be a bigger part of the storyline. I felt like I was reading an outline or list of things that were going to be written into the book in more detail but they were out of order and sparse, if that makes sense.
I really did not enjoy this 2 book series. I rarely rate books with 1 or 5 stars. I have enjoyed other books by this author, but this series was a big miss for me. Obviously I'm in the minority here because this series got a lot of good reviews. It just wasn't my style I guess.

Ruling Class is the second book in author J.A. Huss' Kings of High Court College series. This book is seriously dark and disturbing, as well as a high-octane, action-packed suspense.

This book focuses on Cadee and Cooper. They are pushed and challenged by everyone and every situation. It is clear that they have the least information of all their fellow students. They seem so naive and oblivious at times. They and their classmates had a plan, but no one seems to be following it. There are times when the story feels like a wild version of the other side of the looking glass...and this definitely isn't Alice's Wonderland.

Cooper's brothers and father have a more significant role in this story, and they add a lot of creepiness to the tale. The story culmination is exciting, the secret society conspiracy is suspenseful, and maybe Cadee and Cooper did not get their answers and secrets, but they got some life lessons along the way.

I received an advance copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. For more reading recommendations, visit Book Junkie Reviews at www.abookjunkiereviews.wordpress.com

We pick right up where we left off with Cooper and Cadee (you need to read Bully King first) heading back to campus. What could go wrong? Both main characters are put through exceptional challenges and once again, it is just not clear who exactly can be trusted. Why is it that 'getting to the top' isn't always so glorious? In Ruling Class we witness the agonizing curve of life challenges on the way to adulthood. It is sometimes brutal, heartbreaking and even funny ( I loved the chapters in between 35 and 36!)
These bullies are full on, varsity level, and their parents set the bar. Another twisty duet from the fascinating mind of JA Huss.

WOW! JA Huss has a way of always keeping me on the edge of my seat when I read her books or my head spinning, but this book she had me going double time. This book was intense, it had so many twists and turns when you thought you figured them all out there were more. You don't know who you can trust, what's truth, and what isn't. This was a great duet.

J.A. Huss has once more blown my mind. As a matter of fact I'd love to dive inside hers to see just how she continues to write such exquisitely executed books. Ruling Class is multi-layered and it was quite the journey to get to the final truth. A story that kept me on my toes as the mystery surrounding High Court College did for it's residents. My head was spinning more times than I can count but my goodness it was worth every screwed up expression I exhibited and every seemingly dead end in eventually learning what each blanket of sins meant. And believe me, there were many.

Picking up where we left off in Bully King and here I thought that book was complicated, Ruling Class goes to yet another level of intrigue. Although Cooper and Cadee come up with a plan to shed themselves of this demonic place, nothing goes the way they thought. And when the rest of their crew all seem to go off script, it's literally anyone's game. One no one was prepared to play.

With Huss throwing me off the path of where I assumed this story was headed, I honestly could not believe how Cooper and Cadee, not to mention Isabella, Mona, Ax and Lars, had become less than they were capable of. With rituals, odd ceremonies and plans for grooming all seemingly set in place, I was just as surprised as Cadee and Cooper were when thoughts of ruin fell apart.

But Huss is masterful in her story-telling and I knew I had to be patient which I will admit was beyond hard at times. My patience, however was handsomely rewarded as I was again wowed as everything fell into place, albeit in an explosive sort of way and I literally closed my Kindle and smiled. Surprising me with

This is the kind of book and duet that you cannot even come close to summarizing since there are a myriad of twists and turns that at times feel too fantastic. But then the last 10 percent or so comes into play and all the doubts, the questions and the what-ifs are beautifully assuaged and you can't believe it all makes sense!!!

This story has incredible characters, a bit of some great kink and a kind of love that is more than appreciated after all that is endured. There is a ton of evil and moments that were a bit hard to swallow but were made better by the kindness that was always there but sometimes got a bit lost in all the opulence this crew lived in. Not to mention some changes of heart from some of the more powerful players and not always in a good way.

In the end, it's a duet you need to experience for yourself. I can't help but give Huss high praise for never writing the same story twice and always keeping me engaged from beginning to end. With that in mind I happily give Ruling Class a huge 5 stars!

Read this duet back to back! Talk about so many twist and turns I definitely didn’t see coming. What a ride, because this one went to a place and had events I truly wasn’t expecting. I’m actually quite glad this was a duet, because I’m not sure if I could take any more waiting in this story, LOL. I’m kind of sad this duet is over though. I look forward to see what JA brings next!

I received this book at my request and have voluntarily left this unbiased review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

I was disappointed with the finally of this duet. Sure the ending is crazy and wild. The sex hot. Just, this book felt like page and page of inner turmoil that we have heard already. It slowed the book and the story down for me.

Is there a plan, isn't there a plan? Are we all doing it or is no one doing it? Then tons of or hero and heroines inner thoughts.

The ending was well done with a lot of twist and turns when the secrets are revealed. But and this is a big BUT the ending after the climax happens was blah. News clipping settings telling what happened after made me bored.

I needed more action like book 1. Like most of JA Huss' other novels. This just didn't connect with me.

This review has taken a few days to write as my mind is still reeling and in the best of ways. This book was incredibly twisted and left me not knowing which way was up, who to trust and believe and wondering what was going to happen next. Seeing the characters come into their own created for such a magical ride that didn't let me go. What an incredible ride -- put on your seatbelt

I really liked the idea of the story but to be honest, half of the time I didn't understand what was going on. I feel that this would have been an excellent running series where the main characters could have had more depth to them and the story could have unfolded with better presented twists.

I should have known better...the first book in the duet, Bully King (BK), ended in a "HEA for now" breath of relief. That reprieve was short-lived as JA Huss ramps up the intensity of Ruling Class fairly quickly as we dive into the depths of High Court College. BK's main focus was introducing us to Cooper Valcourt, whose ancestor was one of the founders of the college, and Cadee Hunter, the daughter of employees who worked for the school, and the current generation of students. In Ruling Class, Cooper tries to uncover his father, the Chairman's true end goal by welcoming in a commoner like Cadee, who was home-schooled with no apparent ties to the Fang & Feather Society, the elite clique of High Court. Cadee, on the other hand, wonders why she seems to be easily stepping into the elite school among those who had just bullied her over the summer. The more you think you figure out, the further from the truth you become. JA Huss weaves this tale so tight that you barely see the thread that starts to unravel who the "ruling class" of High Court actually is. The author provides barely any hints on the direction the story will take which ramps up the suspense even further. Having not lived the life of privilege all her life, will the gifts and lavish lifestyle overcome her goal to find the truth about what happened to her parents? How far is she willing to go and will Cooper be by her side? All these questions will be answered in one of the twistiest endings I've ever read!

4 crazy stars!!

This is book two of the “Kings of High Court College” duet and can not be read as stand alone.

This is the continuation of Cadee and Cooper’s story. Don’t worry you will still see the whole crew. I will say I was let down in the part Lars played. I was hoping for a little more from him.

Wow!! I was not ready for all this goodness. This book took a darker path then the first book and I am definitely here for it!! This book was like a whole different world for me. There were so many secrets and twists that I had no clue who I was even rooting for.

Cooper shocked me in this book but not as much as Cadee. Holy shit! This girl. Can I also say I didn’t know whether I wanted to smack or partly trust Coopers dad (The Chairman). And Ax is still as hunky as ever. Let me say there is a scene with the three boys where I felt like I was on fire!!! But don’t worry this is not a love triangle.

I was pleasantly surprised by this book. I didn’t feel high school bully but more romantic dark suspense. But whatever it was it was good!! There was so much more to High Court College. The history was probably my favorite part. I think the end caught me off guard for sure and I definitely loved it.

*** Ruling Class is book two in the Kings of High Court College duet and should read following Bully King. This review may contain spoilers if you are not yet caught up in the duet. ***

After a summer from hell, Cooper Valcourt and Cadee Hunter finally have something they can use to fight the powers that be at High Court College... leverage. And with the secrets they now hold, they have the power to live life on their terms... that is, until school starts back up...

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Ruling Class was a story that was even darker and more depraved than it's predecessor, Bully King. While Cooper and Cadee have finally admitted their feelings for each other, there is a force even greater than their connection which is working to challenge everything they ever wanted in a life with each other...
With their return to High Court College, Cooper and Cadee are prepared to stick with the plan that was formed over the summer with the Fang and Feather society recruits. But, the Chairman, the Judge and the Mayor have other plans... especially when it comes to Cadee.
Whew! Reading this book gave me chills and sweaty palms, all at the same time! The campus of High Court College is churning with dark secrets, and Cadee is willing to sacrifice anything... and everything, to uncover them. But, when the game starts to consume Cadee and Cooper, it may just be too late before they realize they are in too deep to ever get out...
This story was incredibly complex and intriguing. It started out a little slow, then absolutely held me captive once the plot started to take shape. In the end, I felt that many unanswered questions remained... but I just can't seem to stop thinking about what took place within the pages of this depraved and ambitious tale...
I received a complimentary copy of this book for my honest and unbiased review.
Julie takes Ruling Class to an even more intense and dark level than we went in Bully King. I should have been ready for that, having read everything she's written, but dang!! Cadee and Cooper both upped their game of the levels they were willing to go to in order to get what they wanted out of High Court College.
At the end of Bully King - which you need to read before opening Ruling Class - Cadee and Cooper and the whole gang had a plan in place on how they were going to get out from under the thumbs of their parents and the hierarchy of the High Court. Yeah, this is Julie at her finest so NONE of what they planned out is actually what happened. The plan fell off the tracks almost immediately....or did it? Nothing is as it seems, no one knows what's going on, who can be trusted, who can't.....
Initially the story moved along slowly and I kept waiting for something or someone to jump out from behind a corner with some huge revelation or something, but things finally started to progress along and the train picked up speed and then that last 10% of the book was like, WHAT THE WHAT??? Mind blown, mouth agape, head shaking. I don't know how Julie comes up with these twisted AF stories, but she is certainly a master at it!!
Wowwww
I've never said Wtf more when reading. This book had so many shocking moments. It's the second book in a duet. It can't be read on it's own. And I'll admit, the first couple love scenes were cheesy, but I think now it's to show a contrast with how things go later. And it's a wild ride! Like even until the very end, there was so much to be revealed and I was nervous I wouldn't get a happy ever after.
Ugh I just loved these books and the characters. Cadee and Cooper, along with a bunch of other students, really got swept up in something huge, dark, disturbing. And even at the end, I'm a little unsure which choices they made for show and which parts were their real personality shining through. And I swear I hope to never see the word "Fugling" again.
Explosive Conclusion!!
You must have read Bully King to get the full impact of this phenomenal story. Just when you think you know what is happening, it changes. A story of tradition, power, family and choices. It is dark and it is brutal and you are unable to look away.
We not only get under the skin of our main characters, but into their thoughts and dreams. The power struggle is real. The relationships are key. Knowing who to trust is tough; trust no one. A misstep can cost you your life.
‘Twists and turns’ does not begin to describe the roller coaster ride within. A story unlike that which you have read before, unless you read this author. Fascinating, mysterious and compelling. This story will affect your heart and your gut as you take this ride with these characters. Prepare yourself. Dive in, the water is fine….
A very intriguing story, it got my attention since the start but sadly the main characters didn't.
I never got invested on them, but the story was good enough for me to continue.
I really wanted to know the secrets and what really meant to be part of that society and yes we do get some answers but I feel like some questions didn't get answered and once the secrets were revealed every happened super fast.
All in all, it was a good duet but sadly and surprisingly it felt short of my expectations
I'm glad I know she doesn't read reviews because this was definitely a case of 'it's me not you'. The writing was exceptional as always and the idea of the story was good but I just couldn't connect to it or the characters. At the end of Bully King I was left with respect for the characters and couldn't wait to read how they would bring the High Court down. What I got was my favorite characters submitting sexually and to high court pressure for no actual gain. There was no clever behind the scenes plan, nothing intentionally gained from these acts of degradation. There was no payout until the very end so I didn't go along on a great journey toward justice like I had hoped.
I don’t know why I thought that this book was going to be smooth sailing but I guess I was just being optimistic. Things actually get worse for our characters in this book because this time they are divided and alone and trying to take down something much bigger than them.
Without giving too much away I will say that I was very satisfied with the ending even if at times I didn’t enjoy the path that the book took us down.
