Not a bad outing.
Max Brand has a LOT of full length novels.
Yet at the time when he was active. He wrote a ton of western magazine, short stories.
This is three of them.
First a murder mystery. With his best friend looking to hang for it.
The main character sets out, to try and prove his innocence.
Leading him, to what is said, to be, a haunted mansion.
Second, two larger than life men. Both with weapons and bare fists.
Come to blows over the same lady. Problem is, she may not prove worthy of either of them.
Last, an often used character Speedy. Master of many things, including disguises.
Pits himself, against the army of a criminal mastermind. Maybe his most dangerous rival, and foe.
For the sake of some friends.
One thing also about the short story collections like this.
It gives a nice cross section, of his settings, and plots.
If you like westerns one author to check out.

Purchased for the Speedy Short Story only. Book 5 of Faust’s Speedy Short Stories, Red Rock’s Secret 🤫 is another light-hearted page turn romp and best Speedy Short Story so far. Book 6 ‘Speedy’s Bargain I understand is in Western Trio Wheel of Fortune which I am told, continues the story-line of the infamous Charley Dupray, after his abduction and jailing in San Lorenzo so will make this my next read. 🙂🇦🇺🦘
