Why do we think? We do we have emotions? Why is anxiety rising and at epidemic levels? Why aren’t people happier? What can we do about it? Do you want to reduce negative feelings and feel happier?
This book was written to help. This book will help you feel better.
Hacking Evolution explains why evolution wants you to be unhappy and what you can do about it. With years of experience, Dr. Brad Kelln, clinical psychologist, takes you on a fascinating journey into the evolution of your brain. In this humorous and personal exploration, Dr. Kelln will explain how your brain evolved to make you look for problems and be anxious but he will also show you a path to fixing it. You will learn about finding those spaces between thoughts where you can exist without anxiety, anger, or concern – you will learn to find your own QUIET MIND.
The premise is so simple you’ll wonder why people haven’t talked about this before. Your brain evolved in much the same way as the thumbs on your hands. Throughout the early stages of humankind, the brain worked to help us survive. But our world has changed drastically in a very short period of time while our brains haven’t. Find out what your brain was meant to do and why that is making you unhappy today.
This edition of the book also contains an appendix of exercises to help you reach your goals of reducing anxiety and finding your own Quiet Mind.

I found this book to be very helpful, and I plan to implement the strategies presented. They have already helped me. I suspect that the vast majority of people would gain something from it as well.
I didn't like the phrasing in some of the sections describing evolution. For example, "If you had to become violently sick a few times before you learned your lesson not to eat spoiled meat - you'd die"
It would be more correct to say something like "you'd be more likely to die." There were plenty of examples of this throughout. Speaking in absolute terms when the more scientific stance called for nuance. I understand that the author is writing for a general audience, but these instances were grating to me. At times, I felt the author was talking down to me, and I wish he would have given me more credit, again, for the evolution section. These are small points. Overall, this is a great book, and I would recommend it to others.
“Hacking Evolution: Ditch Anxiety Get Happy.... Forever” by Brad Kelln is just a book of 96 pages with three main parts. The book is about the most discussed topic “Anxiety.” The very title of the book seems catchy to me when I have received this copy to be reviewed from Mr Brad a month ago. I kept it reserved to be read at the fullest of my reading capacities because I love reading books on psychology.
The moment I started reading this book I just couldn’t put it down. This is not about some psychiatric sessions to bore you. It deals with the topic of “Anxiety” as not something to be afraid of instead dealing with it everyday in a normal way. I really liked the notion Brad has shared right in the very first chapter that “Life is random" and having anxiety is normal in life to make us moving on and overcoming our fears. I believe the thoughts and ideas he has expressed right from the beginning till the last chapter seemed so real and practical to me. I have an experience in teaching and I always used to tell my students to not to feel anxiety of exams and studies as they are a part and parcel of a student life. The way Brad has promoted this notion throughout the book by stating the examples of our ancestors is really relatable and easy to comprehend.
The book contains some gems of thought provoking psychological ideas by Brad that it seems both enjoyable and applicable while reading them for the reader. I would really like to appreciate the expertise of Brad as a psychologist because he has been honest in portraying the reality behind this dogmatic term of anxiety as a disease. The way he has handled this topic throughout the book is not only commendable but approachable as well for the victims. I have some personal favourite chapters from the book which I would recommend the readers to read and apply the advice in them for sure. Chapter1 “You are not Special or Unique", Chapter:6 “Toddler Brain", and Part II “Start changing How You Think". The second part of the book is the real essence if it! Brad has highlighted beautifully the issues of anxiety in this part, how they are triggered in our mind and how to perceive it in a different way by changing our way of thinking. According to the author anxiety is not a disease but a natural process of our brain to think and learn to respond. The point to ponder is to change the direction of our thinking in life. I just love the remedy Brad has presented in such a simple way. I wish I could quote more of my favourite lines from this book but it would be providing spoilers to the reader.
“Don't wait for a tragedy to temporarily reset your appreciation of life.”
This book is really a self-guide to tackle anxiety and learing the ways to control and master it from an expert psychologist with a 20 years experience in dealing with the people suffering anxiety. The last part III is all about some practical exercises for the anxiety victims to practice in real-life. I shall rate this book 5 stars read for sure because it's brief yet comprehensive. I really appreciate the author's writing style of first introducing the psychology of brain and working of our body to the dealing of anxiety in a simple and impressive way. Thumbs up & hats off to Brad Kelln for writing this book and making it really easy to read and tackle °Anxiety" as not a disease.
“Actively pursue change now; Change how you think about thinking,”
Thus whether you are suffering from anxiety or you are into reading books on psychology, this is surely your read to catch-up this season. Highly recommended to a large audience and readers around the globe even if you have never read books on psychology just try reading it and am sure you will love it. When Brad quoted in the beginning of the book that it's not going to sound a revolutionary read but will change your thinking about anxiety, I felt it true to the core. It does have the idea and a strong notion to let you change your thinking once you let it digest and sink in. After all we surely need to ditch anxiety forever! Go ahead grab this book to be read and re-read. A must read!
“Work as hard on your happiness and contentment as you have been on your own anxiety and dissatisfaction.”
I actually loved this book. It is a different take on why our brains work the way they do and it just makes so much sense. I found the evolutionary point of view fascinating and it's an easy read (aka: not science-y). Reading the book had me "a-ha-ing" and saying "yup, that's me" all over the place. I've actually been able to pick up on times when my brain wants me to go down a negative path, or worry about stuff that I have no control over and I can sometimes (it takes practice) stop it. I am not nearly as anxious or worried as I used to be and I just feel more content overall. Anyone who has a little anxiety (like me) or a lot (like lots of people) should give this book a shot. It might just be the thing that helps you be a little more happy.
Everyone should read this book....now. It offers a practical explanation for why you may be struggling with depression and anxiety and how to deal with it. In these difficult times, many people have been looking for some relief from low grade depression, anxiety, lack of motivation and even feelings of “nameless dread”. This book offers help. I give it my highest recommendation.
Great book for understanding why our brains do what they do. Helps to realize my mind is not malfunctioning, or broken. This makes it easier to accept the steps needed to take to start feeling better.
This book is filled with methods to help shift your mindset and start on a path to everyday happiness. Filled with information to help you better understand your busy mind.
