Robert Gaines carried his family out of poverty and into a life most couldn’t even fathom—let alone dream about. Signing his name on the dotted line, allowed him to build an empire and give limitlessly to those he loved. Despite his public persona, Robert is regarded for less admirable reasons by his three sons. When the curtain is peeled back… Cornell, Morris, and Clark Gaines are three broken men who are constantly battling their individual demons, while making life bearable for themselves in the roles their father thrust upon them. Along with their status, comes complicated love lives with women who prove to be more challenging than their own dad. Everything comes with a price… An unexpected series of events set off a chain reaction that threatens to blow their lives apart. No one could have predicted just how much Robert Gaines leveraged to rise and maintain his place at the top. Scandals and secrets swarm as the three Gaines heirs attempt to hold on to their humanity long enough to figure out why their world has suddenly turned upside down. They’ll all learn that when making lofty deals, pay attention to the fine print because... the devil is in the details.
Diana W. hails from the city of gumbo, Mardi Gras, and the WhoDat nation. She writes about love and the imperfect ways we find it. Her stories of black love are down to earth and full of comedy. When she's not writing, she's in the kitchen baking cookies for her home bakery, The Cookie Catalog.
EXCELLENT. Author Diana W. draws you in from the first page and you will be hard pressed to put this one down. This book is intense and steamy and leaves the reader wanting more. This is not a conventional romance but the author's voice and the elements of her previous novels remain. Her characters are believable, there are moments of levity, and the plot is twisty in the best way. I can't wait to set my eyes on Book 2!
I ended up reading this book because of a negative review. I’m not sure if that reviewer read the same book because the ONLY thing that was true, for me, is that it ends in a cliffhanger. If you’re a fan of Diana’s, this is kind of a detour from her usual comedic storylines BUT creative versatility is what makes a writer noteworthy, to me.
This book was VERY well-written. The characters and storyline were plotted out meticulously. This story plays out almost like a motion picture. It kept me in anticipation, angst, & invested in what would happen next.
This book is a step outside of the ordinary as the author asks readers, in her notes, to open their minds to something different but as it continues there’s also suspense, a bit of paranormal and tah-dah! (dysfunctional) romance starts to come into play as the story progresses and we get acquainted & comfortable with these “eccentric” characters.
That is what made Dark Deals unique, intriguing, & a DAMN AMAZING story for me.
I highly recommend this story because it’s not your ordinary romance…it’s ENHANCED but with the characters that were still relatable which was so much better to me.
This book is definitely not what I thought it was. I'm already not a fan of graphic sex scenes, but I thought it would focus more on Robert's "deal" that he made to acquire his wealth, and not his kids. The whole Harley/Cornell angle was engaging but had nothing to do deal with the Robert's deal, or at least it wasn't made apparent. We never found out what was wrong with Robert's wife Then, when you get to the cliffhanger and realized that Part 2, which could have answered these questions, was not written?? A huge letdown for a book I was really excited about.
This was my first full-length book by this author and I loved it! This book had suspense, romance and down-right mystery all up and through it. The author did a great job of writing characters that you either hated, loved or empathized with.
I'm excited there will be more to this story, so I'm going to let this one sit for a while and get ready for the next one.
When I say Diane W had me on the edge of my seat reading this book to the end! Wondering when will the other shoe drop! Well helll the flood gates are opened! Robert done made a deal with the devil 👿, po Robert! I can’t wait for the next installment to find out what happens to Robert, Cornell, Mo, Clark, Gianna, and Justin!
This was such a tsle of mystery and suspense. Dark Desks is NOT your warm and fuzzy love story. This is a an AMAZING story filled with dark family secrets drama and suspense. What Robert Gaines do on that dark night years ago who did he meet with behind the blue door? I am on pins and needles waiting on the conclusion . Great job Diana 👏 ⭐⭐⭐⭐
I love Ms. Diana W. and Dark Deals was so good! The seriousness of whats going on with the characters, mixed with the small comedic relief, and the steamy sex scenes, equaled an amazing read! I can't wait to see what's to come.
