It's ok not to be ok!

I really liked this book. This showed how African-American shun away from asking for help. They have been told to pray and God will answer and deliver you from your troubles. Keep what happens in your home private. Well sometimes we need therapy, medications, and a therapist to help us; that's why we have doctors and therapists so they can help us. I'm glad Savannah had a husband that was willing to help and support her. Great story! I'm sure it will help many people.

This book was really good. You never know what a person is dealing with. This is the 2nd book of Mrs. Johnson's that I've read where it felt like I was reading about someone I know. I have a cousin who's situation is very similar to this story. My cousin in the span of 7 months lost her dad, her mom and then her brother all while she was pregnant. Only difference is my cousin's husband later died & that was her breaking point. What I do appreciate about this author's books is that she always promotes therapy. Some Christians feel like you can pray everything away. And although I don't doubt that, sometimes you need a little more help and that's why God made doctors. It's like that drowning man in the ocean. A man in a boat came to save him and he said no God will save me. Then a helicopter came and he refused help saying God will save him. A man swam out to him and he said no god will save me. He died and when he got to heaven he asked God why didn't you save me. God said I sent a boat, a helicopter and a swimmer and you turned them all away.

•The cover of the book looks classy and amazing along with the title which is apt to the plot of the story.

•Feeling down from time to time is a normal part of life, but when emotions such as hopelessness and despair take hold and just won’t go away, you may have depression. Some people with depression may try to hide the signs from others, or they may not even realize that they have depression.

•“I’m not crazy” is a christian fiction novel which openly talks about the sensitive issues like mental illness, postpartum depression. It is more than a Christian fiction book, this is a story which is damn relatable, honest, and needed to be told.

•It is a story of Savannah Graft who has been through very tough times but has managed to overcome it. She was living happily with her husband and baby shane, until one morning, she woke up different and everything is changed. She couldn't explain it and all she continuously saying was I'm not crazy.

Isn't it horrifying?

•This book was not just something to read for entertainment, this is very serious and sensitive. I am sure it would be relatable for everyone at this time (pandemic) because everyone is going through same mental stress and illness.

•Author has very beautifully pen down every emotion in a fluent and clear language with neat and uncomplicated grammar. The story is engaging and the readers can relate to the emotions and dilemma.

•The characters are well developed and strong. I truely felt the pain of characters. It's been an emotional roller coaster ride for me.

•Hats off to the author for writing something which is so important and real.

•Highly recommended book!! For anyone who has ever suffered or suffering from mental illness or anguish, this is for you.

I'm Not Crazy was my very first book by Lakisha Johnson but it sure won't be my last.

“I’m not crazy” is a christian fiction novel which openly talks about the sensitive issues like mental illness, postpartum depression. These are the topics that need a lot of attention, and our help!

Mental illness comes in many forms and you might not see it or recognize you have it until you spiral out of control. This author does a good job explaining, giving an example of someone who has it by introducing us to Savannah.

For Savannah Graft, she's been dealt some heavy blows in her lifetime, but has managed to overcome them. Now, happily married to her husband, Pastor Shane Graft, mother to Kennedi and Baby Shane, First Lady of Victory Temple and the owner of SG Graphics; life is good.
Until one morning, she woke up different. She isn't herself, yet she can't see it. She recognizes something is wrong, but she can't explain it. All she knows and continually says, I'm not crazy. Truthfully, she isn't she's depressed.

Read Savannah's story to see if she finally admits to needing help or will she continually hide from fear of herself, judgment or ridicule.

I loved how the author addressed mental illness from so many angles - a 'high profile person', the church's stance, the norms of past generations, therapy vs prayer. She basically laid out every stumbling block to a person's treatment and healing and knocked down every argument against therapy.

This book was not just something to read for entertainment, it touches your heart and soul. It is more than a Christian fiction book, this is a story that is relatable, honest, informative, and needed to be told.

“I'm Not Crazy” Being a fan of fiction when I read the title of the book I was like I want to read this one because in the world where it is cool to be crazy the book said “I'm Not Crazy”. The cover of the book as you all see compliments the title of the book and is totally in sync.
I’m Not Crazy is a fictional story which focuses on Mental illness. Going through a difficult time (Pandemic) I was craving to read a book like this. It is a story of Savannah Graft who has been through tough times but has successfully overcome it. She was living happily until one day she wakes up and everything is changed. Isn’t it horrifying? Well the story is relatable and interesting at the same time. I am sure it would be relatable for every person at this time because everyone is going though same mental stress and illness today.
Apart from story the author has done a great job while writing this book I mean the way she has expressed the situations in the book through words It really translated the feeling, The language and the usage of words is good, There are a lot of words you’ll find new but the language is quite basic and easy.
Over all you are going to love the book and it’s totally worth giving time. I would definitely recommend this to every reader during this time.

Beautiful

Ms Johnson truly ministers in this book. It's a solid Christian read that tackles a subject generally taboo in the black church and community. I loved how the author addressed mental illness from so many angles - a 'high profile person', the church's stance, the norms of past generations, therapy vs prayer. She basically laid out every stumbling block to a person's treatment and healing and knocked down every argument against therapy. That the backdrop was a black church and the affected was the first lady laid credence to the fact that mental illness has no boundaries and needs to be treated just as a physical illness. It solidly advocates for therapy along with prayer and faith. That was the strongest take in this book for me. And I hope it registers and motivates to action any reader in a similar situation.
Don't let the fact that this is a Christian book deter you from reading this gem. This is a story that is relatable, honest, informative, and needed to be told.

She is not carzy, she depressed, she is unwell. I am so happy that I came across this book, we often don't talk about mental illness but I am glad the author brought out an important issue through a very well written fictional tale. The protagonist character of the book is suffering from depression, she is in a place where many of us have been but still we fail to recognize what depression is and sometimes going through this phase and accepting it is not bad at all. It's impossible for our mind to be happy and cheerful always, so it's important to feel what we feel.
.
.
This story will eventually help a lot of readers in a certain way, it's a story that has my heart, you will get to know how one feels when depressed, mental illness is an illness and it's very important to accept it. It's so well written and at the same time it's so detailed. I will definitely recommend it, it's something that should not be missed. Please note, few things could be triggering for sensitive readers.

Mental illness is not fodder for some new jokes !

Unless you've experienced it you may not understand it but it requires empathy and the willingness to take the time to become educated about it. I have walked in the shoes of depression. It hurts, it's uncomfortable, it's not easy to talk about it explain. Mental illness comes in many forms and you might not see it or recognize you have it until you spiral out of control. This author does a good job explaining, giving an example of someone who has it by introducing us to Savannah. She brings a spiritual under time without being preachy and gives insight to how the church often responds to people who have mental problems. As always this author has me taking notes, from scripture, to songs and snipets of insightful thought provoking phrases. Read it for yourself you may find you are not as together as you think you are. You too maybe hiding behind a veil.

𝑻𝒊𝒕𝒍𝒆: I'm Not Crazy
𝑨𝒖𝒕𝒉𝒐𝒓: Lakisha Johnson

𝑴𝒚 𝑹𝒆𝒗𝒊𝒆𝒘:
I'm Not Crazy is the first book that I have read written by the author Lakisha Johnson. The main character of the story is Savannah Graft. Her life was beautiful until depression hit her. She is a mother of two kids and wife of her husband Pastor Shane.

Mental Health is an issue that people avoid to discuss but with proper care and help, one can easily overcome it. Savannah's not sleeping, eating barely and her changing moods made Pastor worried.

The depression that Savannah was having is the Postpartum Depression. It is a serious mood disorder. But the good thing is that it is treatable.

This book involves various definitions and is insightful. One may get to know a lot about Postpartum Depression and the behavior of one who is suffering from it. This book is an eye opener for me. A person who looks strong and fine may be suffering from depression silently. So be kind and help others.

Depression has increased too much these days. Every other people is suffering from it. Some people try to hide while they are depressed.

The protagonist of the story is Savannah Graft. She was living a happy life with her husband Pastor Shane and her kids Kennedi and SJ. Savannah was suffering from postpartum depression.

Shane started to notice strange things about Savannah like when she couldn't sleep and she went to rearrange the pantry at two in the morning. With her stranger behavior, Savannah made Shane worried as she could be dangerous to kids. But Shane like a good husband kept on asking her if he can help her.

The story is written well. Getting a good sleep and a peaceful mind is very important nowadays. Narration of the story is smooth and the language is lucid. This book that talks about mental health is a must read by everyone. People who are depressed should have someone with whom they can discuss everything without being judged.

"I'm Not Crazy" by Lakisha Johnson

My Opinion:

What a good read that we really needed. How many times do we find people who smile on the outside but not do well on the inside as it was for Savannah Grift? How will Savannah be able to make this journey through postpartum depression and mourning her sister's death? One thing for sure 'Depression' is real, and no, you are not crazy! What is important from this read is that it is ok to reach out and get the needed help. And most of all, one should realize that you are not alone in this journey. One doesn't have to suffer in silence alone. Thank you to the author as you get the readers a beautiful minister story that is woven into a therapy read that helps all who are suffering from this illness as Savannah had suffered.

Thank you! I have never really dealt with my twin sister's death and bits been 11 years! I've never returned to th grave site either.... does that make me a bad person? I think it s too final and for me I think I will totally lose it or who knows maybe I need it. All I know is my life has never been the same since and I am suffering in silence. My marriage suffered after because I became depressed and all I did was work and sleep and self medicate. I never got help but I thought I would be fine apparently I'm not! I am just a not so barely functioning depressed woman trying to get her life back, but I don't know how to start and I feel like if I really break down people will think I'm crazy. I feel lost. I am praying for a miracle. Thank you for writing this book, I know I need help but I don't know what to do at this point. It's been so long people will probably think that I am crazy

Ministry

This is a ministry to those that don’t think they need help. I battled some form of depression in 2014! My grandma that raised me took her last breath on 3/7/14. My mom her daughter took her last breath on 10/8/14. My marriage ended or I checked out of it I’m 2014. Through the grace of God and my family I overcame it. Professional help is needed at times when you can’t seem to get help from other sources. This book is a testament to that. Thank you for writing it and thank you for your gift. God placed you in a position to help others through this gift. Many people read to escape and in this reading you are giving hope! Your gifts make room for you and honey your gift is making room for you in places you have not seen. So thank you!!

I'm So Glad

I am so glad that I read this book. I know first hand, that we as black people tend to ignore the signs of depression, an it's a topic that families don't want to discuss. I commend Pastor LaKisha Johnson for shedding light on this topic and in such a profound and professional way. This book is amazing, informative an exceptionally written. I have been through the storm and tried by the fire. So I can boldly confess that depression is real. For those that may be suffering in silence, I implore you please get help. I did and all I can say is to God Be The Glory! To Pastor Johnson, yes this is a ministry. As Donald Lawrence says, "The Gift Looks Good On You, and you wear it well."

You are not crazy!

I love how the Author makes the characters so real. A grieving Savannah didn't want to be labeled crazy. Shane new something was wrong with his wife but didn't know what. Coming from the elders he's told to pray. But what if praying isn't enough. There are great takeaways in this book but the one that stuck with me has been the one I've been telling my family and patients for years. "Seeing a doctor doesn’t mean your faith in God is any less than it has been. It means you're trusting the gift God placed within the doctor" Mental illness is at an all-time high. Seek help don't suffer in silence. There are great resources at the end of this book.

This book was chosen by our Book Club to read and discuss. With the pandemic looming over us, it is the perfect topic to read. Savannah's mood swings have her personality and sanity in question. Her loving husband tries everything in his power to be supportive but realizes he needs help. The subject of mental illness is taboo in the Black culture, but her husband is willing to break that and openly seek help and guidance from God, his family, and his church in order to help his wife through this. A great informative read of a woman's journey through postpartum depression and the mourning of the death of loved ones.

My thoughts

Savanah has it all, a career, two beautiful children and the first lady to Shane. When life challenges occurr, and as women, we're told what our role is and how we should carry ourselves. But what happens when we can't handle it? Savanah is an example of the result of unresolved , bottled up emotions. Rev. Monica Sweets tests the waters with Savanah. Who will drown? Who can swim?

This author is amazing! This touchy subject is overlooked often. Shout out to Lakisha Johnson for addressing women's mental health.

One of the Best

This novel touched my heart, mind, soul, and body. The thoroughness of depression shown in Savannah totally revealed my attacks from depression within my life. The sermons were excellent! I hope I am blessed to use some of them one day as I mention you. You are blessed and anointed. I almost love this novel more than Forgotten Wife. Lakisha Johnson, you will always be a top author in my reading life, and I do not mind spending my retirement money on your books. Keep writing and I promise you that I will keep buying.

I’m not crazy, I’m just tired!

Lakisha Johnson has done it again. She has penned a story that is not only believable but much needed. Mental health has such a stigma attached to it that often times it has been taboo to even mention. Lakisha has brought a topic to the forefront with a christian spin on it, all while making it informative and an easy read. I applaud her for such a great job! Kudos Ms. Johnson for knocking this one out of the ballpark. This is not only DC approved. I deem it a must read.

Happy Reading,

Thank You!!!!

I went to sleep reading this book about k and woke up reading this book. It help me see that I am not alone, that “ I am not crazy”, I’m in need of healing and deliverance from the burdens and guilt I’ve placed on myself. Today is a new day and the joy of the Lord is my strength and if my joy leaves even for a minute and I’m weak MY GOD IS STILL STRONG in the midst of my weakness. Let’s’ pray for one another and the author. That God continues to use her for his glory and that her gift continues to make room for her!!!!

Very Emotional Read...

This was a very emotional read towards the middle.

To me this novel started out kind of slow but it started to get good the more I read.

I will say anyone that is suffering from any kind of depression should really take the time to read this novel. There are also a lot of amazing scriptures to refer to in this novel.

Once again Author Lakeisha Johnson had born me away with yet another amazing read. I wouldn't have picked this novel if not referred to me by a friend but I have to say I'm glad I read it...

There is a saying , do not be so quick to judge others. You never know what a person is going through. A person may look fine on the outside but in reality may be not handling life situation when alone. Excellent reading on Depression. Two different aspects of dealing with Depression. Monica and Savannah . Two prominent people. Read to find out how each dealt with their situation along with family and friends. Excellent Writing.

I'm Not Crazy

This book was very inspirational and informative about mental health especially in the church and with seniors who believe only prayers can heal and what happen at home stays at home. God inspire people to be doctors , lawyer's and all the profession we can choose from. This was lovely read Lakisha Johnson i pray our church sisters and brothers also pastors and first ladies will ask for help and don't suffer in silence.

I liked this book. Older and some not so old African Americans think we have to be strong and just pray about it. In addition to prayer, God has provided us with doctors, therapy and medication to help us through. Of importance as well is support from family. Savannah had that in her husband, and he was more concerned about his wife than what the church would think.

It should be ok to ask for help without ridicule or feeling guilty for asking for help.

I'm not Crazy

Even though this was a fictional story, it touched on such an important topic in the black churches of seeking therapy. Therapy isn't a bad thing. It's a taboo topic in the churches. But for Savannah it was as real as it gets. She went through some thangs but almost didn't get the help she needed. Such a well written account that all need to embrace. I've never been disappointed in this author's work.
