Neonatal Emergencies: Early Detection and Management

Rate this book
Intended for those who have day-to-day care of new-born infants, this book combines material from obstetrics, paediatrics and neonatal medicine to offer detailed information on the conditions and emergency states that can occur in the neonate, such as electrolyte disorders, hydrops foetalis and the floppy infant. There is also material on practical procedures and on iatrogenic disease. The basic concept of the book is that neonatal emergencies can only be successfully and effectively addressed if they can be anticipated or detected at an early stage as a result of an appreciation of all the factors that influence the health and development of the foetus and infant. The book also offers guidance on the problems and anxieties of parents, particularly the mother, where the foetus or infant is found to be abnormal, becomes seriously ill or dies in utero, or shortly after delivery.
