Through the eyes of an ankylosaurus as she lays her eggs and protects them from predators children are given a first-hand account of what life was like for the fierce animal when she roamed the earth millions of years ago.
My youngest son is obsessed with dinosaurs and he LOVED this nonfiction picture book about a mother Ankylosaurus. Karen Wallace takes us along for a day with an ankylosaurus as she is laying her eggs and protecting them. The watercolor illustrations are soft and gentle. Even when the T-rex threatens, the story is not scary for young ones, and the mother ankylosaurus prevails!
Wonderful texts and illustrations. Encourages children to see the world from the perspective of the Ankylosaurus, therefore could be used to inspire writing from 'character' perspective despite this being a non-fiction picture book. Love this book!
Great illustrations. This is a good "day in the life" style book. It offers narrative descriptions of basic armored dinosaur anatomy, examples of the enviornment it (may have) lived in, and day to day events and dangers...egg laying, nest protecting, searching for twigs, ferns, and bushes to munch on.....there is a touch of self-defense against a t-rex, but it's not scary and the ankylosaurus is unharmed.
