Vixen Hollow was a sleepy little town with secrets too shocking to be revealed. And the inhabitants wanted it to stay that way; either because of fear or because of power. That's why nobody wanted Mike Sloan to go snooping around. But somebody was murdering beautiful young girls, and Mike was number one suspect. To save himself he had to find the sick-minded killer before it was too late! And so he took on the fury and passion of the town in an unyielding one man crusade to cleanse its soul.
James Judson Harmon, aka Jim Harmon (born 1933), was an American short story author and popular culture historian who has written extensively about the Golden Age of Radio. He sometimes wrote under the pseudonym Judson Grey, and occasionally he was labeled Mr. Nostalgia.
The description on the back cover of this 1961 sleazer suggests that Mike Sloan is a murder suspect and to save himself he goes on a one-man crusade to find the murderer. If only that were the actual plot of the book. It's not. Mike Sloan is a cartoonist with a palsied hand from a car crash that killed his wife. He's banking on collecting on his insurance policy so he returns to his home town: Vixen Hollow. It's all scattershot from there. He chases women and is chased by juvenile delinquents. Some murders happen but he is not investigating them or on a one-man crusade. I speed read this while tending to the barbecue. It's poorly written with no redeeming qualities. Not recommended.
