"There Is a Thing Called a Pibble" is a delightful call and response riddle book for young readers about America's favorite classic sport dog, the American Pit Bull Terrier. According to the ASPCA, the breed most often exploited for fighting is the American Pit Bull Terrier. However, well-socialized pitbull-type dogs are not naturally aggressive toward people, and in fact, are wonderful companions. Since 2011, the number of companion animals entering and being euthanized at shelters has declined by almost half due to increased placement help from social media platforms. However, pitbull-type dogs can be passed over for adoption out of fear, and in many places are not legally adoptable because of Breed Specific Legislation. Many US cities legislatively restrict ownership of so-called dangerous dog breeds even though the Center for Disease Control does not endorse this as an effective method of aggression prevention. The most widely accepted professional methods of preventing dog aggression are to assimilate dogs into a home atmosphere, keep them off chains, provide them with adequate nutrition, protect them from weather elements, and not overcrowd them with other animals. Dogs who have had their basic needs met, are statistically unlikely to bite. Unfortunately, the misconception that pitbull-type dogs are more dangerous than other dogs has resulted in their being rejected for adoption and exploited by criminals. This book intends to present pitbull-type dogs as they reliable, caring, loving animals who deeply desire socialization and integration as valued members of a family unit. Hopefully, the young reader will understand the pitbull-type dog as a dog who would rather use its impressive strength and gameness to love people more effectively rather than to bite them.
