This indispensible resource provides an abundance of information for understanding and preventing peanut allergy attacks, including the causes of peanut allergies, recognizing the signs of a reaction, teaching children to deal with their condition, reading product labels, and much more. Original.
I read this book as someone with a peanut allergy. Of course, I recognize I am more knowledgeable than most on the subject so most was not new information, but there were facts I did not know. Things about the biology behind allergies I and so many others have. It is a bit repetitive at times and some of the questions asked don’t have real answers to them, I probably would have just left out. I would recommend to someone who does not have an allergy and unfamiliar with the severity of an anaphylactic reaction. This gives a good foundational understanding of how to identify, react, and avoid a reaction and the sensitivity and awareness those of us with allergies MUST be aware of.
This book is pretty comprehensive and a good read for anyone who is familiar with a peanut allergy in specific. It is in question/answer form and goes through everything from why people have the allergy and what happens in their bodies when they come in contact with it, to when to give what medication and what to do when they reach school age or go out to eat, to camps, etc. to ensure as safe as possible environment for those with this life-threatening allergy. There are many good tips for those involved in someone's life who has the allergy and I will certainly benefit from having read it and keeping it handy for future reference.
