I thought I was happy with my long-term boyfriend of 12 years. He proposed and I thought we had everything I'd ever want. Until the wedding date kept getting farther and farther away and I realized that everything I thought we had turned out to be everything he ever wanted. Somewhere along the way, I lost myself. When our wedding date gets pushed back yet again, I'm forced to come to terms with the fact that our relationship hasn't been a happy one in a long time, and that I need to break it off if I want to figure out what makes me happy. Girls' night out leads me to them. Three men that storm into my life and make me feel again. Three men that have an unconventional agreement, a lifestyle that turns out to be exactly what I need. For the first time in years, I'm smiling and laughing, and I think I might even be in love. Can I push past society's norms to allow myself to find true happiness? Is it possible to fall in love so quickly? Getting Back Me is a contemporary reverse harem novel with mature themes. m/m interaction, explicit sexual scenes, not appropriate for those under 18.
Kelsey Soliz is a homeschooling mama of four and army wife, and when she's not drinking copious amounts of tea or playing bassoon, she is dreaming up all kinds of romance story scapes or reading them like a maniac.
I mean, it started out good. Good reasons for the breakup with the ex, did well on establishing why she was willing to move on so quickly (old relationship was over well before it ended.) Made all the moves for saying this would be a long lead in for a relationship. Worked on why the new one with each of the three guys could work. All very cute, good foundation.
Then at about 72% or so we had the really-should-be-abolished third chapter obligatory break up in a really crummy way for a really stupid and asinine reason, and it just never recovered. Break up/dumb reason, quick apology (lucky there are three MMC so the dumb break up guy and make up guy can be different people and it doesn't have to be any more effort than that), quick forgiveness, quick resolution, and just like that they are all married (or committed, whichever), and all is good happy ever after. And it just doesn't work. Every reason for her wanting to take it slow? Forgotten or swept under the rug. All motivation? Just gone, never to be seen again. She had a good thing going, and for my interest she just threw it away. Sad thing is, the writing is good.
I'd recommend this one for a sweet break-up with ex make room for new relationship vibes. I'd just recommend they also just end the read at the main ending conflict, and just assume everything is hunky dory after that. I'll give another book by this author a chance and just hope this was opening book jitters.
I can’t finish it. The book started out good but quickly went down hill. The entire book is in need of some serious editing. I would give the book a solid 2.5 stars.
Overall, I really loved reading the book. The premise of the plot was interesting and promising. And I have read books from Kelsey Soliz before. The Hemlock Academy, for example. And that was one of my favorites. I wasn't disappointed.
Even, if there isn't really a great development or anything. It's basically instalove and -attraction. I'm not against it, because I know it can happen. But it's rare. And most people don't experience that. So, it's for the most not really realistic. At least the love part. Attraction is really fast developed. But ok. It's not a dealbreaker to read about it.
It doesn't subtract anything from the book or the story. The only criticism I have, but I would never use for the rating itself, is that there were some mistakes, misspellings and confusion in the references. For example, in the beginning, it's mentioned Harley is 25. But then in her inner monologue she states that she and Brad are together, since they were 16 yrs old, and that is 12 years ago. I wouldn't say I'm a pro in mathematics. But, I'm sure, that 16 plus 12 is 28. And later in the book, she says she is 28. So, I wasn't sure which one is the right one.
Another example is in, I count, chapter 14. Harley visits her parents and told them about the guys. She says she met Hudson in the wine bar and later Emerson comes as well to see her. But in the scene it was Emerson, who brought the wine and called Hudson, when he met Harley. Hudson was the one, who knew from Alejandro who Harley is. So, some parts were mixed. In some sentences, words are missing or misspelled. But nothing too big.
For me, that's ok, as long as I know what I'm reading. I know for some people, that's a no-go. But making mistakes is humanly. We are no machines. And I don't know if this book had a proofreader or not. But even if it had one, that's a human too. Even with a proofreader at hand, some mistakes aren't simply not found. So, that's ok.
It was nice to read either way. A sweet love story and a woman, who finds herself again. It's about romance and friendship. With fun and passion. And has some steam too.
It's not a difficult or challenging book. But still, it's enjoyable. I just wished the epilogue had shown more about the future family life. I wanted to know more. But ok. For me, it's 4 stars.
Getting Back Me is the story of Harley as she realizes her 12-year relationship was dead in the water and that she deserves better. She meets Alejandro, Emerson, and Hudson and quickly realizes what a relationship should be. This is a contemporary romance with grown adult characters tired of waiting and ready to start living their lives together. It's a really angst-free read and a good palette cleanser if you recently read something dark.
I liked Harley as a character a lot because she is such a loyal and loving person to her people, but isn't one to waver when someone messes with her. The way she interacted with her bestie Cara really emphasized that. The men are also great, though I wish the book had delved more into their past and what made them who they are.
I believe this book is one of Kelsey's first books, likely the first standalone and first contemporary romance. It did have a number of spelling and grammar errors, but my copy is also a paperback, so it's entirely possible the kindle version has been updated. It was mostly things like capitals when it should have been lowercase or missing letters. Other than that, there was an issue with past vs. present tense, though that was mostly towards the beginning.
The one odd thing about the book is that it read like Harley and her men (told from all pov) were telling someone their story. Very "telling, not showing" energy. Key scenes were of course described in detail with dialog, but a lot of the rest of the book is just like a description of things that happened rather than describing a scene as it happens, if that makes sense. It made the book go a lot quicker than if it had all been fleshed out, which contributed to making it a good quick palette cleanser.
Overall, I really enjoyed the story--especially the budding relationship between the men ;)
The story itself was promising, but so many things went wrong that distracted from it from the beginning. Typos, bad editing, bad time references (she either is 25 or 28yo, pick one). But then it just got flat. Half of the book is about how awesome she is, how much they love her, and there is no development to those words except snippets of the boys attraction to each other that start and end with 100 words total. To me, this is a decent draft story, not developed, not proof readed. It was my first book from this author, but it left me with a sour taste. It gets 2 stars because i read it all, but the las 5 chapters were a drag of mushiness.
Kelsey Soliz is an amazing RH romance writer. I loved her Hemlock Academy series and this book has also become my favourite.
The plot and character development is amazing. I absolutely loved the writing. It was fast but not too fast. Kelsey made me fall in love with each of the boys. And Harley is such a strong FMC.
The spice was off the charts 🌶 I'm not usually into it but the way the M/M exploration was shown ❤ I am in love with every single aspect of this book.
"I swear to you, dear reader, hottest thing by far I’ve ever seen or done. Okay, look away now. They’re mine." This line makes me want to protest and take them for myself 😆😉
I will definitely read further stories by Kelsey Soliz and this book is absolutely on my reread pile. 💙
This was stupid cute. There are some complaints in the reviews about how Harley moves on too quickly or gives up her independence…blah blah blah. Some of y’all have never been in a loveless/attention lacking relationship long term and it shows. Harley does what’s best for Harley. She wasn’t emotional in her decision making, and did nearly everything with a clear head.
The guys were wonderful, and I loved the ending. I do think there should’ve been more punishment for Brad. That’s my only real complaint.
Getting Back Me was a steamy, sexy, sweet story. I mostly read RH paranormal or some kind of shifter books. I also dont read many stand alones, I'm glad I read this one. Kelsey Soliz is a wonderful author, I am hooked on her writing. Hemlock Academy and Territory Walk, the Broken Wolf, just to name a few. If you like steamy, hot, oh my goodness sex scenes, huge hearted love within the characters group, lots of laughs, even more tears....your in the right place. Kelsey does not disappoint.
The story started strong. I enjoyed the characters. I understand that conflict is important but I’m not sure making Brad more than apathetic was important. The characters are good. There was a serious lull and when it’s such a short book that was difficult to overcome. There are places where edits were needed just because the twins got confused for the other but it was a quick read and it was fun.
This book was so good! It was sweet, and steamy, and pallette cleansing after having read several darker books. I wish I had a BFF as great as Cara! She was so supportive when Harley was going through tough times. It's really great to read a story that includes women supporting and uplifting other women.
A cute standalone book. Our FMC has been with the same guy for 12 years, but he totally takes her for granted, postponing the wedding over and over again until she finally walks away. As she hasn't felt live, affection let alone attention for years it's not surprising how fast she hooks up with the guys. I enjoyed reading this.
This is a light hearted romance and I totally fell in love with the main characters. I have to say fuk u Brad if u read this u will know why! The main reason y I didn't give this 5 stars was because the grammar and spelling was pretty bad at times but you could still read it.
This is a great easy read and I enjoyed the story. However, there are so many spelling mistakes or just simple errors it got distracting. Also the age thing bugged me first she was 25, then started dating her ex when she was 16 for 12 years making her 28 not 25. Anyhow besides all that the story is super sweet instalove goodness.
I devour all of Kelsey's books. I l9ve the characters she creates, the humor, and her storylines. Many authors seem to use the same story formula over and over again, and I get bored with their style after a while. This author, so far, is always fresh and imaginative, and I look forward to her next book.
I needed a quick happy RH that made me giggle and smile like an idiot and this is it. It is so sweet and adorable that I couldn’t help but binge it all in a few hours. Kelsey Soliz is amazing and her books are a must read
I enjoyed this story. It seemed like it would be realistic. I loved how they all just truly loved one another. It would have been a 4 ⭐️ review for me but there were too many errors in spelling. It wasn’t just 1 it was quite a few. Definitely still worth reading though!
2.5☆. It had potential, but there were a lot of editing errors. Then, add in the author writing her thoughts to the reader, which killed that scene. I feel lackluster.
Great story one that just draws you in. Will make you laugh and feel al the emotion. Only problem was a few typos at the end. Can't wait to read more by this author
I thoroughly liked this book. The heroine was strong and resilient. Her relationships with the three best friends was adorable. I would definitely read this book again!
There are some grammatical errors in the one I read on kindle unlimited. But I did like the book. There is a bit of insta love which is always hard to believe but it was a cute fun story.
