In The Six Habits: Practical Tools for Brining Your Dreams to Life, author Laura DiBenedetto offers tools and advice for finding happiness, building a positive self-image that powerfully assists in achieving goals, and just plain enjoying life. DiBenedetto begins with an exploration of her own life telling how she became an over-achiever based on self-bullying tactics. Though she reached and surpassed many goals, she was never truly happy because she didn't really like herself.
Through much therapy, trial and error, she found a pattern of six habits that when practiced regularly changed her self-talk, her way of thinking about herself and those around her, and brought her a strong sense of self-acceptance and love. Through these six habits she found it easier, much more satisfying, and pleasurable to strive for new goals and achieve them.
DiBenedetto's enthusiasm for sharing what she has learned and how to put it into practice jumps off the page. It is easy to believe she really cares about helping her readers find their best selves and bring what they most want to their lives. She gives plenty of examples both hypothetical and from her own life experiences. She's a cheerleader for her readers without ever talking down to them.
One of the best things about this book is that DiBenedetto has included a link to a free workbook that allows the reader to practice these habits. Because of this, The Six Habits is a feel-good book that doesn't simply inspire the reader for the duration of the read, but offers ongoing, practical excersises to keep one engaged and moving forward long after the last page has been read.
Laura DiBenedetto has written an inspiring, engaging book to light your inner fire and encourage you to pursue your biggest dreams of your best life. At first blush, that sounds pretty pie-in-the-sky, but it's much more. I've read other self improvement books that offer a lot of "dream big" and "live large" fluff. Other books lay out every thing I need to do to finally be perfect. 🙄 No thanks. I don't need to feel like I fall short when I can't fit someone else's model schedule into my crazy life. Ms. DiBenedetto's book strikes a great balance between energizing thoughts and simple, one-step-at-a-time habits to build. The author gets very real with her own struggles, past and present. She also provides resources beyond the book on her website. As you build each habit for success, there are free digital workbooks to make the task easier. This book is a great read. The author makes me feel like I'm having a long conversation with a best friend. The kind where we share all our hopes and fears and help each other to move forward.
The Six Habits book resonated with me from start to finish. The author's stories of deeply felt life experiences and the lessons they taught her, others will also relate to. She is genuine and raw, and this vulnerability will give you the courage to be your true self. There are so many great quotes to move you, but this one is one of my favorites because it was exactly how I thought of my journey during the pandemic.
"I had a choice with my next career, and I had the luxury of failure. Therefore, I knew instinctively I needed more grit and determination to do things because I deeply want to, not because I had to."

All the things you know you should do, but fail to make into a habit...until now.
This book deeply resonated with me as the author highlights many things I have personally tried to incorporate into my life in the past, but failed to turn into a habit. DiBenedetto reminds us how to be kind to ourselves, be present in our lives, and ultimately find the happiness we seek; and she does it with small, manageable steps that easily turn into habits! Great read!
