Kitchen Table Devotions gives the reader a number of examples of how a Christian family can spend time in devotion to God. The author talks about how the idea developed and how the Lord impressed it on his heart. I appreciate that he included a list of the different attributes of God to help families discuss and praise God for those attributes. Also enjoyed that the model he used was not rigid and only one way but used many examples of unorthodox ways a family can have devotions and still bring glory to God.
Devotions are a great way to devote quality time in Scripture and also to teach our children about God’s Word and ways.
I was fascinated with Kitchen Table Devotions and the author’s family-time inspiration for the book. And as an organizational freak, I especially love the alphabetically structured format used.
I even learned something fascinating (at least to me!) outside the devotional content. ‘Alphabetical’ worship of God is in the Bible! Who knew? Did you? For example, David’s Psalm 145 was written with each new line starting with a new letter of the Hebrew alphabet! My mind is blown. How did I not know that?
Anyway, back to the devotional. The book has two sections. Section one describes Biblical principles and creative and interactive ways for families to worship. Section two focuses on 26 attributes of God from A to Z.
I love devotional books, and especially like the uniqueness and structured presentation of this one. It makes learning and worship time fun, significant, and very memorable. Highly recommended.
Great book for personal devotional or family devotional time!!! Knowing Sergey Sologub personally as a pastor and friend, his great example of personal following Jesus Christ I recommend this practical book!!!
This is a great little devotional book that is great for families. We haven't tried it yet, our little is just a little too young. I've pulled several ideas, thoughts, phrases from this book, but haven't committed to doing the full devotional yet. I really enjoyed the beginning section of the book where he explains the importance of family worship and ways to implement it in our crazy world. I admire the author's commitment to his family time and not allowing other things to encroach on that time. The A to Z study of attributes of God was great. I actually think this would make a great middle school youth group discussion book. Each letter has a short little story that could easily be stretched into a short message. Kitchen Table Devotions Worshiping God from A-Z as a Family by Sergey Sologub Back of the Book: “Experience the joy of worshipping God as a family. Liked: I loved the idea of making intentional time to praise, worship, and talk about God with my family. Prioritizing to make family and personal time to learn and grow in our faith is something I desire my kids to learn while they are young. Disliked: Part one was harder to read. It was more personal experiences and background. It made for dry spots where I just wanted the author to get to the point. I feel like the first section could have been condensed and this book would have been an easier and more enjoyable read. Learned: I learned how to talk with my children as they grow and begin developing a relationship with Christ. Teaching them to make their relationship their own was something I was unsure how to handle with my sons. This is my first book from this author and I really enjoyed his writing style. The ideas within the book are wonderful, and I started a whole notebook writing them down. We are a new family to religion and with a four year old there were many ideas throughout the book that I am hoping to make work within our family. I loved the whole approach to learning, and my husband and I will definitely be doing the once a week switching up learning styles. If you are looking for great and unique ideas for bringing the lord into you and your families lives this book is a must.
Overall I enjoyed the book. To note, the kindle edition as it currently is (August 2020), needs some work, as the page numbers are in the middle of the page. Nothing terrible and I'm sure it will be fixed and adjusted when it is released.
The main part of the book is what I would describe as the alphabet devotions. I enjoyed and appreciated the content, questions, and devotional for that section of the book. Could I create my own alphabet devotion like this book? Yes, but why reinvent the wheel. I also feel like the devotions would apply and attract a wide variety of ages.
I really enjoyed the surrounding and support material the author includes. It explores how he ended up creating the alphabet devotions and his steps of developing the devotions.
Overall, I appreciated the book and all of the contents. It helps me to appreciate that devotion times with the family doesn't have to be perfect and problem free. Times of family devotion is more important than not having them. I believe this book will be a great help to families to have family devotions. Pick it up now on pre-order on Amazon.
This is an amazing devotional, that tugs on the hearts of families, grandparents and children. I am always looking for ways to pull my children into my devotional time and so many times, I can't hold their interest.
I haven't tried it yet, but I believe this devotional will hold their attention and give them a reason to sit with me while we do it.
I love the layout and the well thought out words they've written. I can't wait to go through the devotional slowly and each day, and take time to soak in all the words. I will be suggesting this to my parents and to my friends as well.
Greetings, readers! Here is tree more reviews from the book, I've decided to share it with you also:
I know Sergey as an exuberant, energetic Christian in the troubled country of Ukraine. He understands that accomplishing our mission to change society, and indeed the world, must begin at home. Family devotions used to be a hallmark of faithful families. I hope this winsome and oh-so-practical book helps to revive the practice. __ Philip Yancey Author of numerous books, including The Bible Jesus Read

This devotional is one that has influenced families all around the world. It was written in Ukrainian, translated into Russian, German, Chinese, and English so far. Thank you to Moody Publishers for publishing the English version, and providing a complimentary copy for an honest review.
We used this family devotional at times during our dinner conversations and found it to be helpful at times for sure. The flow and content are great, with questions for discussion, stories to aid in understanding more about God, and many different characteristics named about God to learn together.
What we found at this point in our family journey, though, is the content is not quite accessible yet to our almost-5-year-old. I could see how this devotional would be insightful and promote good conversation and discussion with an older kid, but as of now, it is challenging to use because it seems to be geared toward an older kid's understanding and language.
Other than the actual devotional element of this book, there are very helpful resources talking about the importance of family worship and practical ways to make it happen. Sergey Sologub gives insight into how to worship God as a family, fight for family worship, and share the Gospel with your kids.
If you have older kids and are looking for a devotional to do as a family, I think this would be a really helpful resource for that!
I haven't seen this before - an alphabetical list of attributes of God - from a Ukrainian pastor! Some words may feel a bit forced or awkward thru translation (or because they start with a rare letter). But thats partbof the fun; the alphabetical format is engaging for kids, and its stories illustrate the points well. Worth a look!
