Aether awakening. Delving into darkness. Bonds of blood forged anew.Kyvir and his friends are just a few days away from Belgonna’s Hold. Yet, as excited as they are to take in the splendor of a new city, surviving the journey is holding all of their attention. The team has survived leveling up in the beginner city of Iradellum, fighting man-eating Hell Cats, and wrong turns with the guards. All of this just to gain access to Kyvir’s Summoning Aether. A little grass isn’t going to beat them.Upon arriving at the Dwarven stronghold, they find evidence that someone is attempting to summon the darkest of creatures into the hold itself. For what purpose? Unknown, but the thought of a demon invasion doesn’t scream ‘happy times’. Since the only person who can awaken Kyvir is the leader of the Dwarves, the Crimson Queen herself, they are forced to look deeper into the dark layers of the citadel.Loyalties will be tested, bonds pulled taut, and new ties could bind the group in strange ways to this Crimson Queen.

Alert

First, my review: “This was a fun book. I am glad that I read it. You should try it too.”

Over the past year it has become apparent that my reviews are somewhat antagonistic and I apologize to those of you that have taken offense. I think I had hoped to change peoples’ minds about reviewing works of art and that seems to have backfired spectacularly. However, I am still going to be true to myself and write what I believe.

To the author: Thank you for this chance to escape reality and enjoy the world you created! Keep up the good work.

To my fellow reviewers: Messaging me and reviewing my reviews is as productive as trying to shovel water out of the ocean. Stop. I get it. Let’s just all live peacefully.

To potential readers: Art needs to be experienced at an individual level. You are the only one that can determine what you like and don’t like. Don’t let others make that decision for you. You should definitely read the book and completely ignore all of the reviews. You are a much better judge of what you will like than anyone here.

Cheers

A step backwards

This book was nowhere near as good as the first.

The relationship issues feel so forced and take up far too much of already low number of pages.

Bringing in Emma as a new party member is a nice beat but again that takes too much time.

The main conflict in this book takes almost no time or effort from the party to resolve, everything just neatly falls into place for them and it is BORING.

This is a cool world, I enjoyed the first book and really wanted to like this one but it was just bad.

Hopefully book 3 picks back up or this series will get dropped hard.

A very good follow up

Only four stars instead of 5 because the LitRPG element has quickly taken a backseat to the fantasy. Seems to be a trend nowadays where we get a strong entry novel building the system and then the author quickly moves it to a footnote. I pick this genre as I love the character guiding , class development and RPG element. Please bring more of it back in the next installation.

Not sure how I feel about this being more a real-life invasion versus a virtual game and the group's adventures in it. Even with all that is happening (stuff happening in the real world or events in the game world affecting real life), not everyone in the party has come to understand that they are in a real world when they play.

I am not usually a fan of multiple POVs in a book, but understand the need for that with the ending to this volume.

A great part two in the series

Not as crunchy as some gamelits/ litrpgs but that does not take away from the well crafted world Chris as managed to create. While Mona and Seth get their feelings sorted we see even more of the other party members and get a nice addition to the team. I can’t wait till I get my hands on the third book!

To get powerful magic you must give something of importance. That is the law of this new world. Is Seth willing to pay any price? And what will the consequences of that sacrifice be?

And how many rules will they break chasing that power?

Also a fantastic book. I love thr narratora bringing this to life, and all the amazing characters.

A+ sequel

This book is fun, fast paced, and engaging. It is full of twists and turns that are beautifully woven into the narrative. The characters are relatable and those introduced in this book do not disappoint.

I could not finish the book. The dialog in this was worse than the first. The plot decisions would make sense if the guild members were children or special needs. Some books have a character or two like this but this is the whole cast.

Alright

This story of some rich kids going into a game looking for departed dad and finding a ghost of him was kind of interesting. But the story started going dark with demons who are gods in their world and sort of sucked.

Good follow up

Good follow up to the first book in the series. Develops the story more and gets a few answers, while keeping you interested in more.

Dark tidings

In the second installment of Mephisto’s Magic Online the plot thickens as real world consequence come to bare. The story is darker and explores further into the background of each character. As the party encounters new more dangerous foes, and harsh and dangerous life decisions are faced if not met head on. The story keeps the dark nitty gritty feel as the first one and further keeps the reader on the edge of their seats and sometimes wishing you could scream at them for one reason or another. Thus proving that Christopher Johns is a master storyteller that evokes real emotions in his readers. 10/10
