Moving to England was supposed to be a new start. But I was wrong. Within a week of my mother’s death, I was put on a plane and shipped off to England to live with my loveless, cruel billionaire father – Victor Vaughn He sent me to Darlington Academy, a castle turned college for the elite, the rich and the ruthless. Within one week, my life has changed from being an ordinary, middle class teenager to living with - in a medieval castle, surrounded by the tortured souls of the rich kids. This is no ordinary college. This college is to prepare the heirs to their thrones, the new world leaders for the future and when I stepped one foot through the door I was shunned. The South African girl, whose Father ordered her to attend by a false last name, in order not to embarrass him or destroy his reputation. Father says I need fixing, and in order to fix me they need to break me. Hugo, Blake, Charles, and Royce are the four who torment me. The four boys who make me fall to my knees when no-one else could. They are the demons who want to break me. And this girl, Adelaide Vaughn will not bow down to them.
Well, well, well..... when D.V. Eeden says dark, she certainly means DARK.
The nature of the bullying that goes on in this book is downright nasty. We're not talking about your run of the mill trust fund brats, oh no! This is a new level of depravity.
The FMC, Ade, is a complex and confusing character. With the death of her mother she's being uprooted and moved to England, courtesy of daddy dearest. She's a kind, shy, and extremely naive character. She doesn't think about her actions, till it's too late. She doesn't trust her instinct, and she's so desperate for love and acceptance, that she doesn't see the people around her clearly. She's a virgin, but have very explicit reactions to her tormentors, yet she has no sexual experience apart from masturbation.
The only reason I'm not giving this book 5 stars is because I feel there's some stuff that's being forgotten / skimmed over; Ade's friends and family back home in South Africa, the time line - sometimes we get a great amount of details, others we fly by 2 weeks with just a shower and a fruit salad. I'm also left slightly confused what genre/trope this will fall into. Is it even romance? Because there isn't really any... well not really. The few sexual encounters (masturbation) are FTB. Will it be RH? Menage? Poly? I'm not sure yet, but I'm dying to find out.
Hide is the 1st book of the Darlington Academy series by brand new author D.V. Eeden and let me just say, SHE DID NOT DISAPPOINT!
This book is absolutely BRUTAL with triggers, so I suggest y'all take that into account before you read it. Hide is a roller coaster of mystery, suspense, plot twists, BULLYING, pain and agony all throughout. Adelaide's mother is murdered and she must leave everything she knows to return to her home country at the orders of her father. Life as she knows it is changing for the worst when she is enrolled at the elite Darlington Academy, her new home away from home.
I absolutely felt every single thing our FMC Ade endured. My heart rate increased and my stomach muscles clenched, preparing in anticipation for the callous things that were done to her and in return, her reactions to it. Hugo, Charles, Blake, Royce and Ruby are the absolute worst of the worst at Darlington Academy. These elite people are fucking ruthless tormentors without giving Ade any reason as to why she is their target. She is pushed the the breaking point, but will we ever find out why?
⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ and a great start for a new author. I found this to be a page turner as I wanted to know what was going to happen next to naive Adelaide. The symbolism of the cover art reflects the story and Adelaide is constantly the wearing a mask to hide her inner trauma. If you like a good bully story, this is for you and I’m eager to find out what happens next especially the cliffhanger ending.
My biggest suggestion would be to get a good beta group of readers to help with the finer details, things that maybe missing or to be added. - The prologue starts with her leaving her step father who you are given the impression that she is close to, but she never contacts him at all throughout the book which seems a bit strange. - Who pays for shopping and the spa? About 3/4 thru the book, we read about an allowance, maybe mention earlier? - Beef stew takes like 3 hours to cook, so to suddenly be served up when Sally starts cooking just doesn’t make sense - Royce’s Aston Martin was later driven by Miles instead of Miles Maserati
It’s all small things, nothing big, but components that I picked up on and was like hmm
Received this book as an ARC for an honest review The suspense and drama in this book is excellent. We follow the journey of FMC Ade who has been moved from one country to another, only to then embark on attending an elite school where she meets her bullies. This book has serious trigger warnings so do not read if you have any but if you love the dark side of romance then this is your book!!
This is a must read. Miss Eeden is a promising new author. From the very first, she drags the reader into a world of intrigue, violence and sex. The reader cannot help but to feel deeply involved with the sad life of the main character, a young woman, dragged from her home in South Africa, under tragic circumstances, to live with her millionaire, brutal Father. Sent away to school for the rich under a pseudonym, she suffers brutal bullying, sexual advances, eroticism, suspense and dark secrets. Finding few allies, our heroine suffers to the point of drawn blood, and you're right their with her, willing her to fight back, and take revenge. The final pages have an expected twist, but not, I thought quite so soon. This only makes the next instalment of the series, so much more exciting. The reader feels that life may be looking better for our heroine.
As a reader, I found myself picturing each scene, another sign of a good author. I would be amazed if Miss Eedens novel series isn't picked up by a film producer. "HIDE" would make an excellent chick flick with a dark side.
Miss Eeden. Hurry up and write the next instalment of your series. You've cleverly left the reader in suspense just at the right moment! Many congratulations to you.
Hide is book one in the Darlington Academy Trilogy by romance newbie D.V. Eeden, and let me tell you that this author is one to watch. This twisty, complex and unapologetically dark book represents everything that is so deliciously sinful about the bully romance genre. Our main character Adelaide suffers a tragic loss, and is shortly after shipped off to attend the illustrious Darlington Academy, where the filthy souls of the rich are plain to see. Myriad trigger warnings apply here, this is not a fluffy and lighthearted read. But it is a thrilling, page-turning adventure from the get go and the cliff hanger ending promises further delectable pain to come. The brutal, tortured souls of the harem are addictive to read about, with each character bringing something new to the table. I personally cannot wait to see where this story is going, and know that I will be closely following the work of this fabulous author in the future.
(I received an ARC of this release in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own).
his story blew my socks off! This is the kind of book that leaves you in a serious book funk, it's so good nothing else is going to compare... I'm literally sat here going over and over it trying to figure what the hell is going on in this story! It's so full of suspense and great chemistry between the characters! That said, the bullying in this is quite severe so be warned, it touches on some dark areas. I have no idea how the author is going to turn this around, because to be quite honest I can't see our heroine falling for these guys after everything they have done?? They have some serious work to do, I don't trust Zach at all and Hugo is so dark a character I'm Seriously worried for Ade, don't even get me started on her dad!! Loved it....can't stop thinking about it, need book two like now!! If you love bully romances, dominating alpha bullies and a gripping storyline full of secrets and lies then you HAVE to read this book!!
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Ade has moved from South Africa to live with her father after her mother is murdered. This book gives you suspence, drama, bullying, and immense pain. I will warn that there are some trigger areas when it comes to this novel, so if you are sensitive beware. Her dad makes her go by her mothers maiden name and its not really explained why in this book, making it even more intriguing. The guys are all dark, mysterious and dangerous, you want to throtle them more than root for them in this book. The best part is always seeing how they redeem themselves down the road, for now I still want to kick them in the junk. This up an coming writer knocked it out of the park, The cliffhanger ending leaves you yearning for the next installment.

After her mother's death, Adelaide is forced to move from South Africa to England to live with her cruel father. Or that's what she thought. Sent to Darlington Academy and having to hide her identity, she sees herself becoming the victim of four very handsome and very cruel boys. They are determined to push her to limit. Will she survive their persecution?
I. Need. Moooore! I loved this book. The boys are really cruel but heaven if they're not sexy. Adelaide really has her hands full. She's pretty real as a girl, with eating disorder, anxiety. I really can't wait for book 2!

This book.. wow. If you’re interested in dark bully romance then this is for you. Throw in a harem of boys and a British backdrop - Darlington Academy is the one! I’m not even sure I can describe how extreme yet addictive this book is. If you don’t want dark or triggers this might be the one to skip. But if pushing boundaries is for you then one click this!! Hugo, Blake, Charles and Royce are about to break you differently. Zach and Miles might just be wolves in sheep’s clothing. Because the only knights around aren’t those who ride in on white horses to rescue the princess.
Hide had a strong plot that was packed with many emotions. Nothing about Adelaide's journey was easy, she has been through so much, many ups and downs but she was fighter. I enjoyed this story, looking forward to reading more. Thanks, D.V. Eeden. Good work :)
I havent been able to put this book down all day. I loved the story and twists and turns. I cant wait to see how Ade gets her own back. I hope she comes out guns blazing. Amazing book cant wait for the next.
The story is there, but this read like a draft. Simple mistakes and some clunky sections took away from the page turning storyline. This could easily be fixed with a good editor or a group of beta readers. I will definitely come back for book two!
Hide is the 1st book of the Darlington Academy series by brand new author D.V. Eeden. Also, I have read this book as an ARC and this is my honest review.
This book is a RH and has a lot of bullying in it so be prepared. The story is about Adelaide who has just lost her mother to a horrific crime and is now being shipped off to her father whom she has not seen since their divorce. This is where I have a problem, she is 18 and had a great life with her mother and stepfather, but she chooses to go to a father who has not seen in forever... hmmm. Then once she arrives she is informed she will be shipped off directly to Darlington Academy not given anytime to bond with said father? She then enters into the academy under her mother's maiden name of Adams, per her father's request. Confusing, but I'm hoping this will be explained more in Book 2.
Now, once she arrives at the Academy she meets her roomate Blaire whose brother happens to end up being one of the bullies (for reasons I'm still trying to figure out). Blake, Hugo, and Charles. They seem to harass her all the time no matter what she does. Very frustrating!
During her stay while she gets bullied she tries to become a ghost, avoiding them at all cost. She is also being bullied by popular girls from this school as well. They also seem to be getting away with it way too much. What I'm struggling with is that Adelaide's character is too much of a victim and I wish she could have fought back more and with every turn of the page I was hoping for some type of spark or fire from her. This book made me want to literally go in there full steam ahead and help her....
With that being said, in the end this book ends with a cliffhanger and I'm praying in Book 2 she will have more fight and fire in her and will get her revenge and her HEA!
I believe this author has a lot of potential and I can't wait to see how much the next book progresses.
Clearly A LOT of unanswered question, enough to have me waiting for the second...still undecided
When does Ade fight back? At what point is enough enough? Where was the romance? The sexual chemistry/tension?
I had a hard time connecting with the guys, even the ones who weren’t really part of what the others were doing. I get that this is only book 1, but some insight would’ve been nice. There was nothing on their motives, that’s probably what frustrated me the most. Yes, the cliffhanger alludes to some motive but really...the last page of the book...
Ok I hate being such a downer reviewer but it started off so great and had me intrigued and excited...
What a brilliant debut novel by D.V Eeden! I loved this book. It is a fantastic dark bully romance. Super dark, so be warned if you have triggers! I was up until the early hours so that I could finish reading it! It does state that it ends in a cliffhanger, I neeeeeeeeed #2! This would've been 5⭐ if there was some steam but that's own personal preference. A really good first book and I'm excited to see where the second one goes!
A good start to the series. I liked the suspenseful nature of the story. The characters are interesting though I’m more a fan of strong, intelligent and crafty characters because then the story has a better vibe. I didn’t think some of the actions or comments were believable. However I did enjoy the story.
