Our world is full of misconceptions about what the Bible teaches. While many of them originate outside of the church, the truth is that some come from within it. In Missing Verses, Brian M. Rossiter examines some of the most prevalent examples of where popular thought doesn't mesh with biblical principles. This includes 15 different beliefs, such as:
All Sins are Equal Everything is God's Will People are Suffering in Hell Angels Don't Have Bodies More than just providing historical and interpretive insight into these questions, Rossiter asks that we evaluate them for ourselves. With the help of guided discussion questions, this is an ideal text for both personal and group study.
Brian M. Rossiter (born August 28th, 1985) is a theologian, philosopher, and Christian lecturer. He has spent many years teaching biblical studies and theology to high school students. Additionally, he has served as an adjunct professor at Ohio Christian University, from which he previously received an Bachelors degree in religion. He also holds a Masters degree in theological studies from Trevecca Nazarene University.
While most of his work has been in the fields of theology and biblical studies, Brian has been heavily invested in Christian apologetics and the matter of reading Scripture as the biblical authors intended. His works include "Mind Over Matter: The Necessity of Metaphysics in a Material World," "The Death Myth: Uncovering what the Bible Really Says about the Afterlife," "God Made the Aliens: Making Sense of Extraterrestrial Contact," and most recently, "Spiritual Things: Exploring our Connection to God, the Angels, and the Heavenly Realm."
A fairly quick but insightful read. I had not thought of several of these topics, though most of them are definitely common and widespread. The sections about the gift of tongues, Jesus’ resurrection body, and that all sins are NOT equal were especially interesting. I read this by myself, but I can see getting some pretty vibrant discussions out of it in a group atmosphere. It’s definitely worth the time.
