My co-author Stuart and I had a lot of fun writing this story of two sets of new parents. Stu, of course, is a new father himself, and my little nephew was two this summer.

It's about the joys and sorrows, pleasures and perils of being a parent, with lots of laughter, jokes and crazy situations along the way. It's also about the additional challenges facing parents of a baby who has special needs - and little Jax in the story is based on my nephew.

This is the third and final book in the 'Gym or Chocolate?' series, but can also be read as a standalone story.

If you follow Stuart Reardon on social media, you’ve witnessed the obviously love he has for his son, born earlier this year. And I'm guessing that new life role inspired him to reunite with his co-author, Jane Harvey-Berrick, to highlight the joys of parenthood through his characters.

This story follows the two couples from the Gym or Chocolate series, Cady and Rick from book 1, and Grace and Vince from book 2, as they both embark on the highs and lows of parenting. There are two things that made this book standout: 1) the men play a key role in managing their wives’ hormonal levels, being the perfect partner, when their wives began to have self-doubts or head into PPD territory, 2) and it is one of the first romance books I've read that dealt with having a special needs child. On the second point, while the book highlights some of the harder parts of having a special needs child (endless medical expenses, judgement from others), the story really focused on how the couple worked to treat their child like any other, with unconditional love.

Vince definitely brought humor to the story, with his role as the Canine Crusaders, and how he extended that role to provide for his family. And I loved how these couples worked together to not only manage their sanity following sleepless nights and bathroom mishaps, but how they adjusted their lifestyles to put family first.

Overall, this was a sweet read, highlighting two couples who embraced their new roles as parents and grew closer together in the process.

Reardon and Harvey-Berrick have taken our beloved best mates and their wives’ story to a whole new level. The two previous books in the Gym or Chocolate series were fun reads, but get ready for The Baby Game —it had me in stitches from the get-go.

Seriously though, it’s not all laughs and giggles. Having a baby is overwhelming. Prenatal classes and advice from paediatricians help, but the truth of the matter is everything that comes after the arrival of newborns. The authors laid it on the line in such a way that not only did I remember what I went through, but I also understood Cady and Grace’s fears.

I was awestruck by the support Cady and Rick received from those who care for them. Without spoiling the book for you, the only thing I’d venture to say is Grace and Vincent are the most loving and thoughtful friends they could have. For whatever reason, it’ll be challenging for both couples. However, overcoming problems is easier when you know you’re not alone.

Despite all the marvellous players, Vincent has a special place in my heart. Seldom does he lose his cool, and although his problem-solving methods are out of the norm, he’s efficient. His down-to-earth wife has learnt to take his nappy escapades among other goings-on in her stride and their fur babies, well—dog lovers, the authors are going to spoil you rotten.

I prefer reading stories centred on how well they’re told rather than how compelling a plot or character development is. Don’t get me wrong, all these aspects are important. But here, I simply couldn’t find fault. The pacing, rapid-fire dialogue and Brit lingo were beyond my expectations, too. I laughed out loud, oohed and aahed, and even had a good cry. When authors bring out all the feels, that, in my opinion, isn’t just a good book but a brilliant one.

If you haven’t read Gym or Chocolate? or The World According to Vince, don’t fret! Reardon and Harvey-Berrick’s latest offering can be read and enjoyed as a standalone. Need to have your faith in humanity restored, then this thought-provoking, beautifully written gem of a book is for you. Bravo!

I received an ARC of this book and this is my voluntarily, honest review of it.

This was such a great story! After reading and enjoying the first two books of this series, I was looking forward to the third and last book in the ‘Gym or chocolate’ series. In the first book ‘Gym or chocolate’ we met Cady Callahan and Rick Roberts. In the second book ‘The world according to Vince’ we read how Grace Cooper and Vince Azzo became a couple. And in this book ‘The baby game’ we got to see what happens when both women get pregnant and how that changed the lives of both couples immensely. This story was my favorite story of the three books. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed the first two books too but this story was such an emotional, fun and sweet story. It had me smiling, laughing out loud, emotional and even thinking while reading it. The writers did a wonderful job of balancing this rom-com story with laughs but also with real life situations and problems, of describing the joy, the deep love but also the difficulties, the fears & worries of parenthood. The story was told from the POV of Cady, Rick, Grace and Vince. I really loved that, it gave the story more depth and the reader more insight into their thoughts and emotions.

If you have read the previous books that you know the main characters already. Rick, who’s a silent, grumpy guy but who’s also a good friend and husband. His wife Cade who’s more social and talkative. Grace is intelligent and quiet and then you have Vince. Who is such an interesting and unique character that it’s hard to describe him in a few words. In some ways, he reminded me of ‘Joey’, one of the main characters on Friends. He may not be intelligent in the eyes of society but he’s very loyal to friends and loved ones, always there when you need him, he’s honest and has a very big heart for animals and although he always has the best intentions, his ideas don’t always go as planned but they do make for a lot of fun, you never get bored when Vince is around. But what made this story even more special is that the writers gave Vince and Grace a ‘special’ baby. Because baby Jax has Down syndrome and just like the main characters in this story, I learned a lot about it while reading this story. I’m very thankful to the writers for deciding to create the character of baby Jax, the story wouldn’t have been the same without him in it and baby Phoenix made it special too. This story had double cuteness in it!

This book is really the perfect story to end this series and I was very happy with the epilogue at the end too.

Such a fun look into parenthood! This book follows the lives of Rick and Cady (Gym or Chocolate) and their BFF's Vincent and Grace (The World According to Vince) and their wee ones. You can read this as a stand alone, though there is mention of people and events that took place in those two books. This book is the next chapter of their lives and they take us with them every step of the way. We get to find out when they learn they are expecting, we are along for the nine month ride and well into those first few months of crying and pooping babies. :D As you can imagine the babies aren't the only ones crying, but there are plenty of laughs along the way, as we watch them adapt to being parents. And well, Vincent Azzo is involved so you know there will be trouble. Though really, he steals the show. While it's mostly filled with laughs as we watch them struggle with parenthood, there are a few teary eyed moments. The characters are wonderful and there is something relatable about each of them. There is some sexual content, nothing very graphic, but probably more than what's appropriate for young teens. There is also some complications with the births and may be a trigger for some readers. It alternates between the POV of all four of the characters and the story runs over the course of a couple of years. It's well written and easy to read. Hard to put down. Even if you are not a parent, you will enjoy everything this books gives. (Probably more so if you are.)

*I received an ARC of this book.

Cady and Rick and Grace and Vince are such wonderful characters and close friends. When both couples find out they are expecting, the usual fears of parenthood arise. When there are complications for both couples, they encourage and support each other.

Vince is quite hilarious, no matter the situation, and the ideas he comes up with are such a hoot. It’s a good thing that the others try to rein him in with some of his ideas!

I found it remarkable how involved both Rick and Vince were with their wives and the pregnancies, the highs of hormones and the lows of worry.

Being a mother and a grandmother, I have found that no child is like the other and all have various concerns to live with so it’s difficult to use ‘normal’, ‘regular’, ‘special needs’, or other categories.
The story was heart warming, funny, and very emotional at times. It was wonderful to see the two babies grow and how each parent became more adept in their new roles. There were everyday worries about income, work, insurance, time with partners and children – all relatable as we try to find balance in our own lives.

The Baby Game is written so seamlessly that I had no idea which author wrote which part. This is such an endearing story and one that I highly recommend.

The love Vince and Rick have for their women, and the babies, is awe inspiring. To hear these men talk about their families is, of course, the stuff of romance novels and fairy tales. Vince is the ultimate Peter Pan, but we’ve seen him grow and mature into a wonderful father. Rick is always on the straight and narrow but we get to see his gooey middle with his son. So the guys are on a new adventure in life, filming their lives as fathers. Each couple has their difficulties and I’m quite impressed with the support given on all sides. I was brought to tears many times, mostly happy but a few sad ones for remembering our own situation. This writing team is fabulous, seamless transition between one to the other because I couldn’t tell who wrote which parts. I was thrilled to receive an early copy.

The last fun book in this trilogy. Book one was Rick and Cady's story. Book two was Vince and Grace's story and this story is about all four characters, and what happens over the next year or so. Sort of like a huge epilogue. It's told in four points of view, which are all clearly marked, so no problem understanding who's narrating. There's sadness, happiness, romance, (no detailed steamy scenes), funny scenes, heartbreak, cute babies and dogs, and I really enjoyed it. All books are in KU at the moment.

Great book!

Loved this book as well as the others in this series, but this was my favorite of the three. I laughed and cried throughout the entire story about these awesome couples and their babies. Vince Azzo is one of the best characters I have come across in a book in a long time. Read it, you won’t be sorry!!

Bravo! The Baby Game is the ultimate conclusion to the Gym or Chocolate trilogy. What Jane Harvey-Berrick and Stuart have created is one of the most heartwarming stories I've read this year. We get a book about both couples who each had their own story told prior, Cady Callaghan and Rick Roberts together with Grace and Vince Azzo, individually giving their point of view into their lives as they each await the arrival of their first child. They brainstorm to create a reality show called The Baby Game and it's all kinds of good-natured mayhem. I literally laughed until I cried, mostly at the antics of our Vince Azzo. That man is a true whirlwind with a heart of gold. Having practically no filter, it's classic Vince whether he is his alter-ego the Canine Crusader, or simply Grace's husband. You never know what is going to come out of his mouth, much to the chagrin of his best mate Rick and anyone who comes into contact with him. But the man is all charm as he can find his way out of any situation with a delightful calmness that is simply addictive.

There is also a seriousness within this story as news about the Azzo's impending arrival throws a minute wrench in what the future might hold for their newborn. Harvey-Berrick and Reardon treat this hiccup with great sensitivity and understanding, allowing Vince to shine even more than he did before. He and Grace take this bump in the road in stride and it's a beautiful thing to watch as their Jax arrives safe and sound and full of the Azzo spirit. I just love that neither the authors nor their characters shied away from the difficult, using this opportunity to show the world just how special every child is, with The Baby Game the perfect outlet for this notion.

Although this is definitely a book about all 4 characters and their ever-changing lives as new parents, there is no question in my mind that Vince becomes the stand-out over and over again. His antics are always good for a laugh and it always amazed me how he could turn even the most unusual and even a bit uncomfortable situation into a positive. He radiates a presence that is utterly endearing since no matter what he does or says, it is always with the best intentions despite the outcome. Nothing stands in his way and his affection for his wife, his son, and his pack of 3 is just beautiful.

But then seemingly out of the blue, my cries of laughter turned into gut-wrenching sobs when a supreme loss is felt and I had to put the book down because I just couldn't get ahold of my emotions. The way Vince handles a poignant goodbye made me a blubbering mess and proved once again just how well-written and true to life this book really was. I felt every bit of sorrow but also felt the hope he did knowing he'd always have his Gracie and incredible Jax by his side. Not to mention Cady and Rick who were more than family in every way possible.

Grace and Rick may be the 'backup band' for two outgoing and very big personalities in Vince and Cady but they are perfectly matched, no question about it. Cady found her other half in Rick, a man who has saved her from herself more than a few times and any self-doubt she may have had by simply loving her. Her future has never looked brighter with a new gig in store and I have no doubt she'll take no prisoners like the true warrior she is. The same goes for Grace. She is the calm to Vince's storm and her love for her man is evident with every smile and giggle thrown his way. She may be his manager but it's the way he makes her and their son feel on the daily that gives her life meaning. These four people are all incredible in their own right and it was an absolute joy getting to know them and watch their lives expand to a whole new level of satisfaction with each turn of the page.

I have to apologize to Jane and Stu for taking so long to finish but as I said, I was gutted on a level I haven't felt in while reading a book and I needed time to be able to finish. But all the feelings I felt were worth every tear I shed, whether from laughing my head off or crying for a 4-legged friend.

I thoroughly enjoyed every single word of The Baby Game, with Harvey-Berrick and Reardon giving us what could be their best yet. They are a formidable writing duo and I cannot wait to see what they bring us next.

5+++ stars!

Brilliant, funny, warm hearted with many emotional moments, Jane and Stuart have written a winner! Using the characters from previous two books, Gym or Chocolate, and The World According to Vince, these authors present the pregnancies of Cady and Grace and show us their experiences, heartbreaks and joys.

Vince Azzo, the Canine Crusader, producer of the Walking with Azzo series, comes up with the idea of making a reality show called The Baby Game, chronicling both women’s pregnancies and baby rearing up to one year, to help other parents deal from their experiences.

One of the babies will be more special than the other, both couples prepare with a spectacular baby shower that will remain in the records as the most unique, and receive two baby boys with a mountain of love and gratitude. Sleepless nights, inexperienced parents learning to change explosive nappies, and learning to live with a little human that fills your house with happiness and terror.

Apart from being hugely entertaining, the story was very moving. I loved the friendship between the couples! Rick and Vince are best friends, Grace and Cady are best friends, and they all support each other, actually live the experiences together, since they all participate in the reality show. The most unforgettable character is Vince, who is a bit looney but very wise, well connected to his emotions and in spite of being the crazy one, he was also the most stable. I got a kick out of his cussing verbiage, his immense love for animals, how he included his pets into the planning and care for an infant, how he practiced diapering on the little dog, how much love he felt for his baby boy.

I love the authors’ writing style, very fluid, very tongue in cheek, very dynamic. This book reads fast and easy due to this style and due to the charm of the characters. Fantastic read!

This latest collaboration by Jane and Stuart is a delight to read. The third book in the Gym or Chocolate series it's the "mother of all pearls" combo, a fun, life-changing series of events in two gorgeous couples' lives.

The story continues from when Vince and Nick found that both their wives are having babies, it's a mixture of awesome news albeit daunting and scary for some. As usual Vince's unfiltered truths made me laugh, giggle and snort, one can't keep track his runaway train of thoughts but he is so entertaining and funny, never a dull moment with this character. But there are also serious issues tackled by the authors which I truly appreciate.

This gem of a book tickled my funny bone ninety eight percent of the time except for some scenes that actually made me cry and that in itself is quite a feat! If the thought of holiday shopping gives you the blues this latest offering by these authors will surely lift up your spirits. It is a guaranteed fixer-upper and mood enhancer read. I highly recommend it!

I think this was written to be a fun book. While it addresses some serious issues with new parenthood, it shies away from them before things get too deep. There are some really funny scenes and Vince threatens to steal the show from, well, everyone.
Two final comments: 1. As I read it, the one couple takes their baby home in a vehicle and the baby is not secured in a car seat. I know this is fiction, but I really hope no hospital would allow this (when I gave birth, my husband and I had to show the nurses our car seat with our child strapped in properly before we were allowed to leave).
2. It was disappointing that the one main character was only mentioned in the epilogue, and not an active part of it. The book is about the four of them. If you can't include all of the main characters in a scene (especially the final one!), rework it.
I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

First, a note of warning: keep the tissues handy ladies and gentlemen, you’re going to need them. For me, this story has taken a look at romance from a unique perspective. We had already fallen in love with Rick and Cady and Vince and Grace in their own books, but now we get to see their stories through the lens of first-time parenthood. (And anyone who tries to tell you that doesn’t change a couple is lying through their teeth.) Add to that, each pair has their own challenges to face bringing these new lives into the world. From changing careers to society’s expectations of what’s “normal”, these first-timers face it all. I think that overall, this book is a reminder that family is more than simply a matter of blood, it’s all about the love.

Jane and Stuart are a fabulous writing team and The Baby Game is an absolute MUST READ!!!

I love Rick, Cady, Vince & Grace, and their experiences in becoming parents together were so spot on as to what real life is like. And thank you for Vince & Grace's experience with a special child, and for the honesty about it from the perspective of all the new parents.

The Baby Game sucked me in and I could feel all the emotions they all were feeling as the characters went through all the highs, lows, guilt, exhaustion, etc . . . together. For me, THIS is what I want in a novel ~ to be pulled in as though you're living the story with the characters.

BRAVO, Jane and Stuart!!! I certainly hope readers can look forward to more from you as co-authors.

I LOVED this book. In book 3 we get to see all 4 characters.. Rick and Cady, Vincent and Gracie. This time we add cute littles to the story. Each couple is expecting. Rick and Cady are over the moon. Vincent and Gracie are as well but learn that their child will have downs syndrome. So to show that its not a scary and sad event Vincent gets all of them to do a reality show through the course of the pregnancies and the first year of life. Each couple goes through the highs and lows with some emotional times. But in the end love is what wins. I cried and I laughed. This book really was just unbelievably great. I fell in love with these couples all over again.

Not sure what scenes may by the funniest: learning what it means to be a man in the men's room? Discovering the video horrors of ways babies are born? Learning that newborn poop may be right green? Aside from the humour, which is contagious, the more serious undertones of the story - the sleepless nights, the parental struggles, the extra strength it takes for special needs children, and others - shows just how passionate and worrisome parenthood can be. In "The Baby Game" we see just how far both Cady and Grace have come in their lives with Rick and Vince.

a fun and heartfelt ending for these 4

We get to read the continuation of Rick & Cady and Vince & Grace. We find that both Cady and Grace are pregnant and due around the same time. The Baby Game will make you laugh for the majority of the book. Trouble really finds Vince. Lol. However, there is one chapter that seriously threatened to make me cry. Thankfully, the story took a bright turn and had me laughing and shaking my head. I loved the way the story ties up. Such a great way to close out the series.

Love reading from beginning until end!!

You know, sometimes you have these kind of stories that you just love reading from beginning until end and this one was just that! It was great seeing these characters take the next steps in their lives and also getting to share that with their best friends at the same time. As they get to learn how to become dads and Mum’s for the first time. Loved it. Looking forward to reading more books from this author in the future. Happy reading everyone 4 1/2 stars ⭐️

The Baby Game is book three in the excellent Gym or Chocolate series. It is a heart warming, funny and emotional account of two couples finding out they are expecting and the journey they go on. We follow the four as they experience the pleasure and pain of pregnancy and babies. Having had two children I could relate to what the women go through on the path to becoming new parents. From conception to toddlers, and everything in between, savour the laughs and the tears but most of all, enjoy the overwhelming sense of love throughout the book.

We met Cady Callahan and Rick Roberts in Gym or Chocolate, then Grace Cooper and Vince Azzo in The World According to Vince. The women are best friends so it is appropriate that they become pregnant within weeks of each other. It was also nice for the men because they are also best friends and go on the journey towards parenthood together.

The story is told by all four characters so we get everybody’s points of view. The worries, doubts and fears all pregnant women and their partners go through are covered. The love these couples have for each other and their best friends comes through especially when there is the added pressure of supporting Grace and Vince once they get the news about their baby. Both men really up their game and are supportive husbands and then fathers.

The best part of the story to me was the way the authors addressed having a special needs baby.
They didn’t back down from any of the issues and highlighted many of the highs and lows involved with such insight. The details about Down syndrome babies and the problems with pregnancy were informative and very well explained. The thing that stood out to me was Grace and Vince’s attitude right from the start. My heart went out to them at first but Vince’s reaction to the news and his determination to treat baby Jax exactly the same as baby Phoenix was inspirational. To him they were going to have a special baby and nothing anyone could say was going to affect his excitement.

I had forgotten how hilarious Vince was and how essentially British his sense of humour was.
To me he really came into his own and although some of his ideas and suggestions weren’t always the best, he always brought the fun and regularly lifted everyone’s moods during the difficult times. I was so pleased we got more of his Canine Crusader antics and his wonderful dogs.

The first two books were thoroughly entertaining and this one didn’t disappoint. I liked that it covered real life issues and problems but still made me laugh and cry. If this is the end of the series then the authors have finished it off in style.

Sweet story

Such a sweet story by one of my favorite author duos. Reading all the books definitely helps with following the story and history of the characters.
I laughed, smiled, even cried during some parts. This story touched my heart. I was able to relate to many parts of The Baby Game.

Rick & Cady and Vince and Grace are having baby boys...on the same day!

Crazy Vince gets the idea to have a show called The Baby Game showing them all with the babies and highlighting the fact that a baby with special needs isn't all that different from a baby without special needs.

Happiness, craziness, touching moments and overall mayhem ensue in this addition to the series. Love all the cast and characters and zipped through this feel good storyline. Well done.
