You're Not Alone is the eighth book in a spellbinding science fiction and fantasy series.
Known as The Muse within her writing circle, Kelly Blanchard first became serious about writing at age twelve and worked hard to learn and fully comprehend the numerous elements of writing. She tutored and assisted teaching in college while she studied for her degree in English. After graduation she continued tutoring children and even taught several classes. Now she’s established an online community to assist fellow writers in understanding their craft.
Outside of writing, Kelly enjoys baking her world famous chocolate chip cookies, and she takes great pleasure in the company of her two cats and her Doberman Pinscher. From a family of five sisters and four brothers, she uses her experience with the family dynamic in her writing. She also practices Martial Arts, fencing, and archery—all important knowledge to have in order to write more accurately.
Writing and stories are important to Kelly. They are a reflection of reality, and she tries to capture that reflection in a way that sparks the imagination even if it means bending a few rules and blending several genres.
1. Thoughts on the plot I have to admit, it took me a while to get into the plot of this book. There are a lot of threads that need tying from previous books, but this book almost kept adding new threads for the characters to follow. It turns out, a lot of these new threads are just explanations for previous events; you learn this about halfway through the book. Up until that point, though, this feels very much like an entirely new adventure with the same characters. Good, but not quite what I had imagined for the 8th book in a series. Still, once everything started coming together I liked it quite a lot.
2. Thoughts on the characters There’s a lot of soul-seeking from the main characters in this book. Some of it was done well, especially on the part of Lorrek and the people who are *finally* seeing him for what he is. I liked that quite a lot. I do think the twist at the end, involving him and his bloodline was a little…abrupt, but I wouldn’t go quite as far as to say it was contrived. Vixen, on the other hand, bothered me. Throughout the series, she has been one of my favourite characters. In this book, though, she seemed to just be a really negative, almost toxic person in how she treats everyone around her. I get that it comes from certain traumas, and that she’s working through some things, but she really doesn’t treat people very well, even when they’re nice to her.
3. Favourite part About the halfway point, things started to come together, bringing a whole pile of events from the first part of the series into this part of the series. I liked it quite a lot.
4. Critique Most of my critique were just the plot seeming almost unrelated to the rest of the books, but that was resolved at about the halfway point. The rest of my critique is that Vixen’s character development went a bit…sideways, I think.
Overall, I would say that You’re Not Alone is a good penultimate book in the Chronicles of Lorrek, and that book 9 promises to be very dramatic indeed.
This was a great instalment in the series. It brings together several elements from throughout the past several books, interconnecting them in ways few could have predicted. Quite a few long-running questions get addressed, as well as a lot of major conflict that really drives home how close we are to the finale. There's also a wonderful part right near the end that had me verbally exclaiming "What the what-ing what what"as several very subtly placed hints throughout the series finally came together with a major revelation.
This book has everything in it. A love tale, fights, passion ,hardship, sorrow and loss. The world orbs get saved from a planet and everyone meets back up. But the only confusing thing is how similar everyone's names are . It can become quite tedious if you read a name wrong so read carefully.
About everything in this was amazing. Four stars rather than five simply for what seems like no diversity. Honestly apart from Lorrek and the kingdom he is from its kind of hard to tell and you can imagine people how you like.
The action sees are well done, however where this shines is the interactions between the characters. It always keeps up with what is going around them and your on edge for every character you like.
A few missed typos that could have been pre-production errors that may not be in the public release. Did not take away from the experience in fact added to it, reminded me that this master writer is also human.
