Clean Cut Kid

Rate this book
Everyone is Expendable.

We know about the existence of the CIA, NSA, MI5, and other government organizations, but what about those we don’t know about?

Logan Connor was just an all-American clean-cut kid when the government came calling. Bored with college, seeking direction, and open to suggestions, Travis Crow makes Logan an offer he can’t refuse. And then some…

From North Korea to Central Africa, Logan is sent on assignments that no one will admit to or even verify their origins. His movements and activities are part of a deeply hidden, totally secret organization that Logan isn’t even privy to. Who is pulling the strings? Friends are few, trusted associates are fewer. If no one knows who you are or what you do, then you are expendable. If you think you know the way things work… think again.

Follow the story of Logan Connor is this new page-turning series torn from the headlines and the stories that will never be told.

Micheal Maxwell has traveled the globe on the lookout for strange sights, sounds, and people. His adventures have taken him from the Jungles of Ecuador and the Philippines to the top of the Eiffel Tower and the Golden Gate Bridge, and from the cave dwellings of Native Americans to The Kehlsteinhaus, Hitler’s Eagles Nest! He’s always looking for a story to tell and interesting people to meet.

Micheal Maxwell was taught the beauty and majesty of the English language by Bob Dylan, Robertson Davies, Charles Dickens, and Leonard Cohen.

Mr. Maxwell has traveled the globe, dined with politicians, rock stars, and beggars. He has rubbed shoulders with priests and murderers, surgeons and drug dealers, each one giving him a part of themselves that will live again in the pages of his books.

Micheal Maxwell has found a niche in the mystery, suspense, genre with The Cole Sage Series that gives readers an everyman hero, short on vices, long on compassion, and a sense of fair play, and the willingness to risk everything to right wrongs. The Cole Sage Series departs from the usual, heavily sexual, profanity-laced norm and gives readers character-driven stories, with twists, turns, and page-turning plot lines.

Micheal Maxwell writes from a life of love, music, film, and literature. Along with his lovely wife and travel partner, Janet, he lives in a small town in the Sierra Nevada Mountains of California.

Started as if it might be a bit original, but not so. Just an ordinary spy novel. Not real good, not real bad, not real different.

Sorry. I really wanted to like it but I just couldn’t finish it. Among other things it is so in need of editing and proof reading. One thing that really bothered me was that the dates and time frame were all over the place. For example, the “kid” was born in 1980 which would make him 40 in the present when the action seems to be taking place. (There are also present day references.) But according to the storyline he is only supposed to be in his early twenties. At one point he mentions that he remembers 911 although he was just a child, but in 2001 he would have been 21!

Fast Paced Thriller

Thriller with a bit of a twist. Michael Maxwell has reimagined a spy thriller hero that is more like a cross between Captain Kirk for leadership, Spock for logic, and Sherlock Holmes for the details. He's not James Bond and it's not us against them exactly. Furthermore, and importantly, the story itself moves along and keeps you interested, it is clean, and exciting. Highly recommend it.

Interesting Plot

This is an interesting book. A bit simplistic about the training & the traveling. Things seem to fall into place to easily making it predictable. The characters are all likable & well written. Its s good book for the beach or poolside. It doesn't take a lot of concentration to keep up with.

Seems it was rather forgettable.

Oh my, read it a couple of days ago and cannot remember a single detail apart from the fact that it traversed from plausible to totally unbelievable fairly rapidly with problems solved far too easily.
A thriller sadly lacking much of a thrill, instead provoking muted exasperation.

Excellent as always!

Another gem full of intrigue, adventure, and surprises
from an excellent author who always provides a powerful story! Warning... it was impossible to put the book down until the entire story was read! Loved it!

Started very well but by the mid point deteriorated into silliness. Unbelievable situations between Logan and a Korean spy. Betrayal and than a beyond belief explanation. Not a typical rollicking action thriller. Ending left you feeling unfulfilled and empty.

Fascinating story

I really enjoyed the book. The characters were well drawn and believable. The plot moved quickly and kept my attention. Looking forward to reading the next in the series.

The story in this book is quite good. The delivery seems hurried and a little more development of story and characters would help it, in my opinion. I will try one more book from this author because of the good story in this installment.

It's An Okay Read

The storyline is good, but there's just not enough of the thrill for it to be a thriller! It has a lot of action towards the end that keep you turning the pages, just not enough at the start.. But a good short story just the same.

A good story but not a great one

The store was somewhat confused to me because
it jumped around a good bit from one character to another before it settle down to Logan

Titus Crow never knew his birth parents. His dad died before he was born and his mother was a teenager, so he was adopted by another couple right away. He had a good upbringing, though. When it came to deciding what to do with his life, he knew he wasn’t ready for college. He was ready for the Army and showed exceptional analytical and operative skills. The Army put those skills to good use. Ten years later he was ready for college on the government’s dime. His roommate is Logan Connor, who doesn’t know what to choose for a major. Titus recruits him for the Army as he also showed exceptional analytical and operative skills. Logan’s new assignment could be his last, take down an African drug kingpin. It doesn’t help that someone, maybe on his own team, is leaking information. Lots of action here as the team are the hunted, instead of the hunter. Logan needs to turn that around, finish what he came to do and take care of whoever the leaker is. Very good read!
