This book pairs my erotica with the true story of my intimate relationships then adds my analysis of the main themes around trauma, emotional skills and authenticity. Nietzsche said 'That which doesn't kill us makes us stronger'. My story bears this out on more than one occasion. My erotica is as intense and challenging as is my life story. It is full of BDSM, fetish and power exchange (authority transfer) dynamics. The lines between my erotica and my lived reality are easy to blur. I hope that this book will excite, inspire and open doors. There is light no matter how long you have been in the darkness. It is a matter of learning how to kindle the flame and light the torch. We are all works in progress, can learn from our patterns and our histories and develop new skills no matter what stage we are at in life. It remains my mission to take sex and conversations about sex from the shadows to the light.
Part erotic, part disturbing, and part shocking. This is a story to be approached with caution and an open mind. Some will undoubtedly find it too intense. That said, it is also a wonderfully fascinating and compelling work that weaves eroticism and analysis around real life deconstruction of abuse and what that can mean in a kink/BDSM setting. Well worth the read! Oh, and on a lighter note - don’t be surprised if you fall a little bit in love with the Captain
Dr Bisbey has truly laid herself bare in this delicious erotic memoir, not for the faint of heart. It describes both historical genuine (at times horrific) abuse, as well as lovingly consensual kink. Full stars for courage, and shining a light where it needs to be shone. Consent is all.
Insightful, erotic and powerful read - really helped me understand complex relational issues such as gaslighting as well as being very engaging and well-written.
