Take a deep dive into the world of whales with this fascinating and beautifully illustrated book written by Darcy Dobell and illustrated by Becky Thorns. There are fourteen beautiful spreads featuring seven kinds of baleen whales and seven kinds of toothed whales. Also included are several spreads that provide general details about how whales sleep, communicate, care for their young and migrate. The diversity of whales is truly astounding. The blue whale, which is the largest animal on earth, can grow up to a whopping 95 feet long. On the other hand, there are porpoises, which are small agile whales that are as small as 5 feet long.

This book will be sure to delight any sea creature loving kiddo!

This is a really cool book with lots of detailed information on many kinds of whales. M is on a whale kick, but we'd pretty much stuck to belugas, orcas, blue whales and one book about bow-head whales. This book covers *way* more species.

It was clearly geared toward an older kid, so we didn't read everything on every page, but if you had a kid who was interested in whales who was in elementary school, I'd highly recommend this.

Beautifully illustrated, rich with detail, and well organized. Perfect for the child who loves ocean creatures. Not sure who enjoyed it more: me, or my four-year old ☺️
