In a scathingly funny account of his time in the Washington swamp, Florida firebrand Matt Gaetz, one of President Trump’s key supporters in Congress, gleefully skewers the enemies of the MAGA revolution and lays out his own vision for the future of the populist movement.
“This book is your invitation to the front lines of our fight. Join me with ideas, energy, images, and stories. This is not my chronological diary. You can watch me on television for that. This is how we prevail with joy—and exactly how an exciting president is leading the way against all odds.” —Congressman Matt Gaetz
Matt Gaetz is an new enthusiastic Congressman from Florida who’s eyes were opened quickly to the workings of Washington. He didn’t write this to make friends but gives you a front row seat to the goings on in DC. He’s funny, smart and what we need more of in our government , young blood!
Too many terrible excerpts from this steaming pile of shit to waste my time going back and looking for them. But this one about US soldiers was a stone cold classic in jingoistic tone deafness. “I know they’d die for America as often as God would allow.”
Matt Gaetz is an interesting gentleman who serves as one of Florida's Congressmen. He is truly a "firebrand" in all its definition. The book sheds some light on the inner workings of Congressional work and how the establishment works.
I was surprised to see Gaetz did not have a good relationship with Trey Gowdy although they were usually on media interviews a lot.
Gaetz, at times, is a self aggrandizing but I do not hold it against him. I am sure he and his family is proud of his accomplishments. I think that if you are a success at any level, you should be proud of it and should be able to speak about it. Not that it is going to be accepted by many as honesty, since most in this society are so critical about people that they will just think you are a a-hole.
Gaetz is 37 years old, single Congressman with a Cuban national "son" (Nestor) that has been with him for 7+ years. His son is in school now for nursing. No one really knew about Nestor until a fellow Congressman accused Gaetz of not knowing what it's like to raise a non-white child. Gaetz exploded against him on the House Floor setting the record straight.
Mr. Gaetz is a true Trump supporter and was pivotal in the Trump impeachment hoax. Yes I call it a hoax because it was known based on the transcript that it was nothing. The Ukrainian President said he was not pressured in any way, yet that did not stop the Democrats from moving forward. Ironically they (the constituents) told Pelosi not to do the impeachment during an election year but she could not control herself. Fast forward, with the ACB, NOW she wants to follow the "during an election" mantra. But I digress.
Equally interesting is Mr. Gaetz on climate change. This shows the toxicity of partisanship in our government. This man is someone that has a belief similar to some of the progressives but they would never work with him because he is a Republican. I truly don't know that this country is ever going to get back to something "normal". People love to blame Trump for the division in this country but the reality is the left is by far the most divisive party today. A party the refuses to listen to opposing thoughts saying that the argument on "X" (whatever it may be) is done and you do not have the right to be heard. They feel they have the right to yell you out of a restaurant because of your views, employment or political affiliation. A party that actively seeks to segregate everyone into neat little groups based on identity. I am 100% onboard that black lives matter but not to a degree that "All Lives Matter" is not allowed to be spoken. By definition and by exclusion of any other allowed "matters", your message is that ONLY Black Lives Matter. The left has become the antithesis of what they used to be. Ironically, the right is far more, and I mean by leaps and bounds, far more inclusive than the left. I did not like Obama. I disagreed with many of his policies. I feel he could have done so much more. I know the tired old excuse about him having a Republican Senate however when you look at Trump, he had a Democratic House, was wrongfully investigated, impeached, insiders leaking confidential information, attacks from Congresswoman and men, attacks from Left Senators and the rest of the insanity we have seen, yet he was still able to do more for the PoC and the country in general than they passed 10 administrations; probably combined.
I never understood the hatred they have for this president for his concerns about the economy. Many of the leftist perks they love are tied to the stock market. The pensions of all the union jobs are tied to portfolios that are a group of stocks. If the market fails, those retirement funds, pensions etc are lost.
This is a great book. You could learn a lot from Mr. Gaetz.
Lol at the rating for a book that made in total sales less than $60,000 in a country of 360m people. Credit is due that he didn’t buy a bunch of his own books like Ted Cruz, but this either shows the lack of support for the Maga movement these days, or the illiteracy of the movements followers. How he was able to get this book deal given the air of Paedophilia around him I can’t say, but someone check if the editor is under 16.
As for the book, I couldn’t make it further than the back cover, even the synopsis is packed full of the same buzz phrases you’ll hear on any right wing internet channel, chat room etc multiple times an hour. The worst is his peddling of the ‘great replacement theory’, a racist theory that was conceived of in Nazi Germany, claiming Jews were emerging a conspiracy to breed white people into existence, only now it’s Marxists/socialists/Liberals now perpetrating it because saying Jews isn’t kosher anymore.
Gaetz is just a little Trump, reactionary and nasty, on a political grift that’s, unfortunately, sucked in a lot of people who should know better.
1* because I have to give a star, but the only star that should be associated with this guy is the brown one, cause he talks shit.
I like that Matt Gaetz wrote this himself and narrated his own audiobook. I think his own words came through, which is difficult for anyone but especially for politicians. Young for a congressman, but confident and well-spoken, I’ve been a fan of his not because of his political stances but because of his leadership in a crowded House of Representatives, each member screaming for a mic. Matt Gaetz isn’t afraid to say his piece then unceremoniously Drop the Mic.
This book, like the HBO special The Swamp, was bipartisan and filled with real examples, not political two-faced statements. Matt Gaetz provided an argument and description of the current political arena. For that, and that reason on its own, it’s worth buying this book. Because of the heightened tribalism, I fear many will look right past this book, if nothing else than the “R” next to his district and his name, but that would be a shame. Read the book, even if you think you may disagree with what he’s going to say.
I chose this book because I'm very interested and concerned about our Country that we call America. Our home. The last four years our Country was headed in the right direction. Not to be confused with the left wing or right wing agenda, but on a right course for all Americans who would take full advantage of all the good that President Trump was trying to achieve. Democrats decided lets make everyone suffer and before you knew, they decide well lets just not work with Republicans. Henceforth, we all suffer. I chose to read this book to get another perspective or view from the inside, because I wanted even more so now to be more careful who I help place in office. I thought the book pointed out slot of things I was seeing in the news. I believe Matt is a true American who cares about this Country and I'll support him unless someone shows me differently. But I recommend anyone to read the book and fact find for yourself. Matt use to work at Monica Market at Seaside, Florida when my wife Joyce worked there. So when I say, Matt cares for America, I believe him. So I hope everyone will read it and do your own homework and get all the information and make your own decisios about what is happening to our Country. Steve Sunday, Point Washington, Florida
Interesting behind-the-scenes look at what goes on in DC. Gaetz was my congressman when I lived in Florida. I don't always agree with him (he's very pro-Trump. I am NOT pro-Trump; I am pro-conservative-policies and did agree with many of Trump's policies when they were good. But I am annoyed by people who think everything Trump does is good and also irritated by people who think everything Trump does is bad. Let's look at POLICY, not just personality! Or we end up with an incompetent like Biden who is hurting our country way more than Trump ever did). But I admire Gaetz's courage. He is a true firebrand!
I started this book during the ousting of former Speaker of the House, Kevin McCarthy since Gaetz was one of the ousters. This book highlighted some of Gaetz's passion for this country and the America First agenda. It also highlights his ego which some may find distasteful. Throughout his time in Congress, Gaetz has become the consummate politician. In a word, he is a firebrand. It is clear that he also gravitates toward the limelight. Love him or hate him, Gaetz has great admiration for President Trump and the Make America Great Again ideals.
Since Donald Trump won the recent election it was appropriate to try and get to know some of the folks who are making up his cabinet. Matt Gaetz is a polarizing figure . A so called " firebrand ", no less. He is controversial, well spoken, smart, articulate and loyal to the bone for Trump. The job he is posed to undertake is attorney general. The weaponization of the justice system is need of corrective change. Gaetz is the right guy to undertake this. The book explores his MAGA views and gives one insight as to who this person is
Matt Gaetz understands the political tectonic shifts on the National stage. Far from being a monolithic politician, he shares his insights into the culture changes in politics enabled by millennial politicians and the populist movement on both sides of the isle. Sarcastic, biting, and funny. Quick read.
Not as expected, was expecting a Trump/Republican puff piece, and was pleasantly surprised. It is really an eye opening look at politics in Washington and his Republicans and Democrats work with each other to get things done.
It was okay, but with the recent allegations of Gaetz this book does not age well. Specifically, when he brags about beautiful women he had on his arm. It was a decent insight however on the Trump presidency.
