Structure, Function, Integration: Journal of the Dr. Ida Rolf Institute

Rate this book
The March 2020 issue (Volume 48, No. 1) of Structure, Function, Journal of the Dr. Ida Rolf Institute™ (DIRI) focuses on the theme of hands and arms within the work of Rolfing® Structural Integration. This issue contrasts the modern Rolfing SI framework which benchmarks the importance of hands and arms for structural and movement well-being, however, historically there was a scarcity of information regarding the hands and arms with the original development of the Ten Series. Quite of few of DIRI faculty have articles in this issue, they each offer individual nuance regarding addressing arm and hand manipulation within the context of ‘the recipe’. Readers will meet a blind Rolfer™ who uses their hands to evaluate client structure as well as to do their Rolfing SI work. Michael Boblett has three how to develop a strong hand grip with hanging and finger stretches, the evolutionary musings about the amazing versatility of our hands leading to self-care ideas for Rolfers, and lastly an interview with Kevin Frank regarding the dynamic movements of hanging, pulling, and inverted suspension explorations. Our regular columns feature a Robert Schleip and Werner Klingler research article regarding the biochemistry of active contractile properties within fascia. Konrad Obermeier has an embryological discussion regarding the geometry of development of human extremities. Finally, peripheral stability from the hands and arms is discussed by Kevin Frank and Caryn McHose in their Rolf Movement® Faculty Perspectives Column.
