Confession of Sin

Rate this book
An alternate cover for this ASIN can be found here.

Lt. Damien Kaine has been a homicide detective for over five years. After his last case, he thought he had seen the worst humanity had to offer. Until now.

Kaine and his partner Detective Joe Hagan stand over the mutilated body of Father Mandahari.
Blood coats the steps at St. Florentine Cathedral. A note left by the killer indicates the Catholic Church is hiding secrets, and those secrets are making priests an endangered species.

After another priest is violently murdered, not only must Damien and Joe battle the Catholic Church to get information that will help them narrow in on a suspect, a secret admirer wants Damien’s attention. When Damien receives a gift, it becomes clear this is no school girl crush.

The stalker becomes more desperate to gain Damien’s love and will stop at nothing to get Dillon out of his life, permanently. Damien will protect Dillon at all costs. It’s that desperation that puts he and Joe in a situation with deadly consequences.

It is early December in Chicago, and when everyone should be happy and festive, fear has taken over the Catholic community. As word of these heinous crimes spread, the Catholic priests of the Archdiocese of Chicago are wondering if God really can protect them from the evils of this world.

I was afraid that because I loved the first one so much that this one wouldn't live up to the hype i made in my head. And I had nothing to be afraid. Great character growth. I loved the side story line just as much as the main one. As you can tell by the title..at least you should...it's about religion. Which can be a heavy subject...now add murder to the mix.
I'm not just excited for the next murder ( that didn't sound as weird when i thought about )..but also for what's next for the characters..and not just Damien. I really like all the side characters. It's hard not to.

confused

The theme of the book is violent, good if one likes thrillers/mysteries. The language is beyond foul and takes away from the storyline. A well placed curse word is understood , but this is over the top. A “devout catholic” which can’t have a sentence without cursing is beyond belief. Also, she is living in dreamland as to the sexual escapes.

Damien Kaine and Joe Hagan are back!

This time they are on their home turf of Chicago, where someone is killing priests who have sinned. The killer doesn’t “just” kill them—there are some pretty gruesome crimes that Damien and Joe have to deal with. Dillon McGrath is back, having been transferred to Chicago from Quantico, and (yay!) she and Damien have found their feelings for one another to be strong. She is being thrust back into the case they worked together to solve further south in the state (Innocence Taken, Book 1) and she is not happy about how that part of her job is being handled. Another character in the books I love is Coach, Damien’s fat cat. He made an interesting debut in Book 1 but we come to know him much better here.

This book will hold your attention from beginning to end. I’m on the Book 3 now!

Smooth Sailing is a tantalizing blend of small-town charm, slow-burn romance, and workplace tension that keeps readers hooked from page one. Paloma Wagner’s journey of rebuilding her life and business is compelling, and Max London’s mix of charm, skill, and vulnerability adds layers to their irresistible chemistry. The way DK Marie explores boundaries between business and desire feels authentic and electric, and the stakes both professional and personal make every interaction crackle with anticipation. Fans of steamy, character driven romances with relatable conflicts and satisfying slow-burn progression will find themselves completely immersed in this Lake House Love installment.

Great read

Second book of the series. Great read! I have already purchased the next one in the series. Adding her to my list of authors to be notified as she publishes new books. So on to reading, Fatal Dominion. Expecting it to be as great as the last two.

Great second book in the series. The stalker storyline seemed a little out of place but added a little bit of excitement to the book. Looking forward to reading more in the series.

Thrilling and entertainment

I loved the characters and their lives, now introducing new romantic relationships. And the killer is well written, so extremely psychotic.

I enjoyed both to a point. Not really enjoying all the erotic sex! Is this really required? Author is a good writer but is sex and all the talk about sex required?

2.75 rounded up. Just wasn’t as good as the first book in the series. I still loved the characters but the crime was less exciting for me

Lieutenant Damien Kaine and Detective Joe Hagan are trying to have lives outside of their work, but when priests in Chicago’s Catholic diocese start dying by truly gruesome means, finding the person responsible takes priority.

To complicate things, the VCU, led by Damien, is also on the hunt for several families who have gotten sideways of a drug cartel. The clock is ticking to find the women and children before the cartel does.
This is a fast-paced story filled with intricate, gut wrenching descriptions of the murdered priests.

Victoria M. Patton is genius at balancing the vivid descriptions of the murdered victims with the necessary comic relief at exactly the time the reader is beginning to consider fasting as a lifestyle.

And, Coach the Cat is capturing our hearts, as well.

This is a highly recommended read for anyone who enjoys crime fiction.
