Rani, Queen of the Jungle by Constantine Gerogiou- Children’s Illustrated Colour Picture Book- This Book narrates the story of how a just born tiger cub grows up in a human atmosphere and how the infant tiger leaves for the wild forest. Krishna, the only son of his rich parents resides in a palace with large lawns, water pond, green garden and natural atmosphere. One a on old saint leaves his bag at his door near a pillar. Krishna observes this and calls his parents and servants for help. His parents and servants are aware that the infant tiger can cause no harm to Krishna, so they decide to let Krishna and the tiger cub reside together. Krishna and the tiger cub pass the spring, summer, autumn and winter season together. They become friends. After a few years the old saint arrives and informs that the tiger cub has grown up and she should be left to enter the wild. Krishna’s parents shift them to another part of the palace which is overlooking a river. Wild forest is on the other side of the river. During rainy season, Krishna hears noises from the jungle. One night, the tiger moves and crosses the river. Krishna call him to return back for his safety, but the Tiger keep swimming towards the other side of the river. Soon, the tiger is lost in the wild. I have read the Hindi language translation of this book. The pictures and verses help the reader to relate to the story.
